In the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Borussia lost 3-0 to future trophy holders Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. In the second leg in Dortmund, Marco managed to get a brace by the 40th minute, and it looked like Borussia would be able to make a comeback, but in the second half Dortmund failed to realize some great opportunities and were eliminated from the tournament. On 13 February 2022, Reus scored his 150th goal for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions in a 3–0 win over Union Berlin.

Played in the youth national team of Germany.
On August 11, 2009, he made his debut in it in a match against the Turkish youth team.
In May 2010, he was called up to the main German national team to prepare for a friendly match against Malta, but did not take part in the match.

On June 23, Reus scored the 1st World Cup goal in the 2nd half as Germany defeated Sweden 2–1 in the 2nd group stage to resurrect their World Cup hopes. However, his side were eliminated from the tournament after losing 2–0 to South Korea in their final group stage on 27 June.
In May 2021, Reus announced his decision not to compete in UEFA's postponed Euro 2020 due to post-season fatigue.

Royce met in Carolina Bohs in 2009. They broke up in 2013 but remained close friends.

Legal issues
