All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias You guys know me, I’m a girl who likes to be prepared, so even though we’re approaching Christmas, I am already testing new recipes for the new year. So for the moment, we are going to take a break from our regularly scheduled holiday affair and take a tour down March Madness with this Basketball Cake Balls recipe.
All you basketball fans, raise your hands! Whoop whoop! Although I tend to be a bigger fan of the pros, I do enjoy myself some March Madness ladder action. It might be because of the betting, but really it’s because of the parties and food. Not that I need an excuse to have a party. But it’s more fun when I have a ton of people I can impress feed with my masterpieces. Especially when they are as simple as this basketball cake balls recipe. So easy.
Whip up your favorite white cake and buttercream frosting (you can use your own recipe, my recipe, or grab a box if you’re short on time), crumble up the cake in a big bowl and add some frosting and a heaping pile of Skittles. Yes, Skittles. Seriously, amazing. I grabbed a big 54 oz. bag at Sam’s Club the other day just so I could make about a bazillion basketball cake balls. I don’t think there’s such a thing as too many Skittles. So throw a bunch in there. Mix it all together then form your cake balls and freeze them.
When you’re ready to take them out of the freezer, melt your chocolate and tint it, or use candy melts, and dip those bad boys quick, fast, and in a hurry. Once they’ve set you can draw on those basketball lines with more melted chocolate. Let them get completely set, then enjoy!
All the nom nom noms.
▢ 1 Pan White Cake homemade or boxed
▢ ¾ C Buttercream Frosting
▢ 2 C Skittles
▢ 12 oz Orange Candy Melts
▢ 3 Tbsp Vegetable Shortening divided
▢ 6 oz Chocolate Candy Melts
Prepare the white cake as directed, and allow to cool completely. Crumble into a large bowl with the frosting and Skittles, then combine by hand until thoroughly mixed. Roll into 1 ½ inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze for 20 minutes.
Melt 2 Tbsp of shortening in a double boiler over medium heat. Once the water is boiling in the bottom pot, remove from heat, add the orange candy melts and stir until completely melted. Remove the cake balls from the freezer and dip into the candy melts until coated, then place on a sheet of wax paper to set.
While the cake balls are setting, Repeat the process with the last tablespoon of shortening and the chocolate candy melts, placing the melted chocolate into a small baggie with the corner just barely cut. Allow to cool for several minutes, then drizzle over each cake ball to make a basketball pattern. Allow to set, then enjoy!

Basketball Cake Pops - The Weary Chef
Hi there! Are you watching college basketball these days? Whether you are kicking back and enjoying the games with your family or hosting a basketball-themed party, you are going to need some party food, and it’s not a party without dessert. These peanut butter chocolate Basketball Cake Pops are fun to make, and they will make your party so festive!
You only need a few ingredients to make these adorable treats, and they taste as good as they look. You can make these peanut butter cup stuffed brownies as basketball-shaped cake pops or as brownie bites (which are a bit less work). I had so much fun making these, and they would be perfect grab-and-go snacks during the game so you don’t miss a minute of the action! Pick up some brownie mix, mini peanut butter cups, peanut butter chips, and chocolate cookie icing, and get baking!
Make up your brownie mix, scoop it into a cake pop or mini muffin pan, and stuff a mini REESE’S® cup inside:
Bake, and you are ready to decorate! Use the cookie icing to draw lines across the top that cross like a plus. Then, draw circles across each end as shown in the photos. If you make brownie bites instead of cake pops, draw a plus on the top and then curves on each side. It takes a steady hand to do the decorations, but the design is pretty simple. If I can do it, I know you can!

Ingredients
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray both sides of a cake pop pan with cooking spray (or a mini muffin tin if you are making brownie bites instead).
Prepare brownie mix as directed on package.
Fill each circle of the bottom of the cake pop pan with brownie batter. (A cookie scoop makes this job easier.) Carefully press a peanut butter cup into the center of each brownie. Place the other half of the cake pop pan on top, and secure the latches closed. Bake in preheated oven for 16 minutes.
Remove pan from oven, and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes. Remove top of pan, and carefully remove brownies from pan. Cool on a wire rack completely. (You can cool these in the freezer to speed up the process.)
(If your pan only makes 12 cake pops, you will need three pans or repeat steps 3 and 4 twice.)
You may have ridges around the centers of your brownie balls. Carefully slice those off with a serrated knife to shape your cake pops into basketball shapes. Now you are ready to decorate!
Pour your peanut butter chips and shortening into a deep, narrow bowl or measuring cup. Heat in the microwave for 45 seconds, stir, and then heat for 30 seconds longer. Stir very well until all shortening and peanut butter chips are melted and smooth. (Heat an additional 15-30 seconds if needed.) Stir in food coloring.
Dip the tip of each lollipop stick into the melted peanut butter, and carefully insert a stick into the bottom center of each brownie pop. (Be careful not to push through the top.) Now, submerge each pop completely into the peanut butter coating, lift it out, and hold it upside down over the bowl to allow the excess frosting to drip off. Then, stick the lollipop stick into a piece of Styrofoam to hold the cake pop upright. (You can also lay it on a piece of parchment paper, but you will end up with one flatter side.) Repeat for each pop.
Once peanut butter frosting has hardened, which takes 5-10 minutes, use the cooking icing to draw on basketball lines as shown.
Recipe Notes
To make brownie bites instead of cake pops, use a mini muffin tin instead of a cake pop pan. Dip the tops of the cooled brownies into the melted peanut butter frosting, allow the excess to drip off, and then set them upright. After the frosting has hardened, draw basketball lines with cookie icing as shown. Makes 24 brownie bites.

The language of basketball. Pick-and-roll, Pick-and-pop, Isolation
28 August
Our site presents the fifth issue of the rubric Language of Basketball . In it, we talk about basketball terms - borrowed words, specific expressions and jargon - the language that all participants and fans of the game speak. Each word is accompanied by a video tutorial with illustrative examples.
We bring to your attention the fifth series of the project The language of basketball , in which we will analyze three terms in detail: pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop, and isolation.
Pick & roll and, after both of their defenders move towards the latter, begins to move towards the ring (roll) and receives a pass to an open throw. In the classic version, this combination should end with a pass from the defender to the post, after which he scores a simple two points from under the ring. However, now there are many variations of the drawing of the so-called "two". For example, a defender after leaving the screen can throw from a distance or go into the pass. Also, pick-and-rolls are often used to create unequal exchanges, which are then successfully used by attacking players to aggravate the situation. Pick and roll is one of the easiest ways for the attacking team to gain an advantage over the opponent. Currently, there is no uniquely effective defense system that can cope with this combination. There are many different options for building a pick-and-roll defense, but none of them guarantee success. That is why this combination is the most popular in modern basketball and is present in the arsenal of every team.
Pick and pop (eng. Pick and Pop ) Pick and pop is a variation of pick and roll. Unlike the basic combination, the “big” one here does not fall under the ring, but rather rolls back to the arc. Having received the ball from the point guard, he attacks from a distance. This interaction is not as effective and popular as pick-and-roll, but more and more teams are introducing it into their arsenal. The advent of pick-and-pop had its impact on the game. If earlier the fourth-fifth “numbers” spent most of the time near the three-second zone, now they are increasingly entering the arc, from where they attack with a fairly high percentage. Almost any VTB United League team has such snipers among the "big" ones. Moreover, CSKA forward Andrey Vorontsevich became the most effective long-range driver of the past season, outperforming a whole group of recognized snipers-defenders in this race. Other “big” ones also successfully use pick-and-pops and attack from a distance. Among them are Sergey Monya, Konstantinos Kaimakoglu, Kaspars Berzins, Travis Peterson and Rolands Freimanis.
Isolation Isolation or "aizo" is a basketball term for a combination in which an attacking player tries to beat his guardian one on one and hit someone else's basket. At the same time, his teammates try to stretch the opponent's defense with their movements and give the attacker space to beat. Isolations are often used by teams that have individually strong players. Their success comes from a combination of athleticism, speed and good dribbling. At the same time, Keith Langford or Sonny Weems, for example, are characterized by power passes in which they literally push through their opponents. But Tyreke Rice and Aaron Jackson rely more on their own speed. "Aizo" usually come to the fore at the end of tense matches, when the leaders are ready to take responsibility and the fate of the fight is decided by one throw. At the same time, isolations are very effective during the match, when the attacking player has a clear advantage in class over the defender.

How to equip a basketball court in the country or in the yard
Basketball develops the physical data of the child - coordination, endurance, educates strong-willed qualities, concentration, attentiveness and teaches non-standard thinking. Professionals recommend giving the child to the basketball section from 8-9years, but outside the city or in the yard you can "chase the ball" from an early age.
I myself equipped a basketball court in my country house and now I am ready to share the secrets of its arrangement. I'll tell you what you need to do, how to choose the right equipment and how to care for it.
Prepare basketball court surface
To create a basketball court in accordance with all the rules, you need to select a flat horizontal surface for it and fill it with concrete. After that, I recommend applying a special rubber coating, like on playgrounds in the yard. There is a more expensive coating option - from rubber.
The coating will provide cushioning - the ball will bounce well.
If it is not possible to organize a special platform, you can simply place a rack or hanging basket on a dirt surface. In this case, the ball bounce will not be so strong. An important requirement for safety: the surface must be flat, without holes and bumps.
The dimensions of the site depend on the features of your yard or plot in the country. A full-fledged basketball court has dimensions of 28 × 15 meters. However, not everyone has the opportunity to build such a site in the country.
It is necessary to take into account the technical features of the game. The three-point line in basketball is 6.75 meters from the hoop. Therefore, it is necessary that the size of the site be at least 10 × 13 meters. If you are not going to train three-point shots, a 5 × 5 meter court will do.
Mark out
The second step is to mark up. It is important to use paints of contrasting colors. It is better to buy paints with a high content of rubber or polymer.
If you are equipping a basketball court for children, make the markings bright so that they cheer you up and attract attention. For the game of teenagers and adults, it is better to immediately apply technically correct markings.
Place a small fence or protective net on the site. Thanks to them, you do not have to constantly run after the ball to the other end of the site.
Buy stand or backboard
It is difficult to answer the question of what is better - a basketball stand or a backboard. It all depends on taste, tasks and opportunities. Each of these types of equipment has its pros and cons.
There are two types of racks: mobile and static. The static one is mounted in the ground.
The base of the mobile rack is filled with sand or water - for stability. The main advantage of a mobile rack is that it can be moved from place to place. This is convenient when there is no dedicated basketball court or if you are going to play other games in this area, such as tennis or football.
The main requirement for racks is their stability. It will be much more comfortable and safer to play if you are sure that the stance will withstand a blow of any force.
Pay attention to the materials from which the racks are made. A static rack will be outdoors throughout the year, which means it must be made of reliable materials. It is better to buy racks from well-known manufacturers. So, the American companies Spalding or Royal Fitness guarantee high quality, durability and safety.
Basketball backboards can be made in the country with your own hands from a board, chipboard or plywood remnants. If this option does not suit you, you can purchase semi-professional or professional options in stores.
There are four types of materials from which the shield surface is made: composite, polycarbonate, acrylic and tempered glass. The first one is the cheapest. It is intended for entry-level players. Now manufacturers offer a large selection of colors. A carbonate backboard will provide a good bounce of the ball. An acrylic shield is bought to hold competitions or intense games.
The mobile stand can be moved, so it is suitable for a playground in the country and for those who want to play other games besides basketball
Shields and racks made of tempered glass look solid. They will be appreciated by experienced basketball players
Pay attention to rings
You can buy cheap rings, but I don't recommend doing that. In a year they will deteriorate and you will have to buy new ones. Basketball hoops from Spalding and Royal Fitness are made from quality metal that won't rust in the rain.
The ring must have a springy structure - no rigid attachment to the shield.
According to NBA rules, the ring must be fixed at a distance of about three meters from the ground. For a game with the participation of younger students, it can be hung lower so that it is not very easy to hit it, but at the same time it is quite possible.
Choose rings made from high quality metal to last for many years. For a game involving adults and teenagers, metal chain rings are suitable. They are distinguished by durability and strength.
Know what types of basketballs exist
Success in the game depends on the basketball.
They are divided by size. Size 7 is for men, 5 for women. Even smaller balls are bought for children. The size 6 ball is suitable for street ball or street basketball where the game is played on half the field.
You also need to take into account where you will play the ball: on the street or in the hall. The street ball has a stronger bounce, it is harder and more wear-resistant, but the indoor ball is more convenient to hold in your hands.
It is important to pay attention to the composition of the basketball. Well-known companies use complex polymer compositions for its production. The more expensive the ball, the more complex the polymer composition. The quality of the material determines how comfortable it will be for the players to hold the ball, what kind of rebound it has from the floor and from the bow of the ring.
Another important nuance: do not forget to purchase a pump with any needle.
If you want the ball to have good grip and bounce well, you need to choose polymer models from world famous manufacturers
Proper care
Professional athletes are ready to play in any weather, but amateurs are better off not following their example. If you don't properly store, use and care for your basketball arsenal, its lifespan will be shortened. Humidity will ruin the ball and all equipment, so you can’t leave them outside during rain and snow.
Balls should be stored only in a dry and ventilated room at a temperature of 10 to 20 °C.
Before winter storage, water must be poured out of the base of the mobile rack, and then removed from the street. If you don't feel like doing this every time, fill the rack with sand. Then it will not need to be constantly moved. Basketball stands from Royal Fitness can be left outside in the winter.
Points to remember when setting up a basketball court
The area needs to be determined. The classic version - 28 × 15 meters - is not suitable for everyone. For a dacha, a 5 × 5 meter area will be enough if you want to train three-point shots.
Don't forget the markup. It should be in a contrasting color. Bright colors will interest children and cheer them up.
