How Do Mitchell and Ness NBA Jerseys Fit? [Sizing Guide] – Sports Fan Focus

If you are shopping for a Mitchell & Ness throwback NBA jersey, you are probably wondering how Mitchell and Ness NBA jerseys fit. Mitchell and Ness makes two different types of NBA jerseys: Swingman and Authentic (I own both).

Mitchell and Ness jerseys are very popular because they make classic throwbacks for some of the game’s greatest superstars and most classic jersey styles. These are my 9 favorite Mitchell and Ness throwbacks (affiliate links take you to NBAStore.com):

  • The Kobe Bryant iconic 24 throwback 08-09 LA Lakers jersey (click here to view)
  • The Kobe Bryant Authentic rookie “8” throwback 96-97 Los Angeles Lakers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Michael Jordan classic Authentic throwback 97-98 Chicago Bulls jersey (see picture here)
  • The Lebron James rookie Authentic throwback 03-04 Cleveland Cavaliers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Kevin Durant rookie Authentic throwback 07-08 Seattle SuperSonics jersey (see picture here)
  • The Steph Curry rookie road Authentic throwback 09-10 Golden State Warriors jersey (see picture here)
  • The Larry Bird throwback Swingman 85-86 Boston Celtics jersey (see picture here)
  • The Allen Iverson rookie Authentic 96-97 Philadelphia 76ers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Vince Carter Authentic 98-99 Toronto Raptors jersey (see picture here)

Below are pictures of the Mitchell and Ness jerseys that I own – the Lakers jersey is a Swingman and the Magic jersey is Authentic. I will use photos from my jerseys to give you a better understanding of fit and features.

It is also important to note that Mitchell and Ness only makes throwback jerseys. If you are wanting the jersey for a current team/player, you will need to buy Nike or Fanatics.

I own all 5 of the NBA jersey types, and this is the jersey I recommend as best NBA fan jersey due to its combination of style and price (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).

How Do Mitchell and Ness NBA Jerseys Fit?

Mitchell and Ness NBA jerseys fit slim. The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey fits slim, but I did not have to size up. The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey fit so slim that I did have to size up.

My recommendation for the Swingman is if you are in between sizes, or prefer a loose fit, to size up. My recommendation for the Authentic is to size up regardless – if you prefer a loose fit you may have to size up twice.

How Do Mitchell and Ness Swingman NBA Jerseys Fit?

Swingman

(6’3″ 200 pounds size medium)

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys have a slim fit, but they were not so slim that I had to size up. If you prefer a loose fit, you will need to size up.

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys have plenty of length built in, so the length of the jersey should not be a problem.

The jersey was snug across the chest, and looser but still slim) through the stomach area. The jersey material has that classic jersey feel. The rib-knit collar and sleeve hems were comfortable and did not bother my skin.

Here is my medium Swingman compared to a medium Hanes undershirt straight out of the package:

This is the current price of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com). The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys are more affordable than the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys.

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys do not have all the premium finishes that the Authentic jerseys have, although I was honestly a bit shocked at how nice the Swingman jerseys were.

They did have many of the same features that the Authentic jerseys had, and in my opinion, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys give you great value for the price.

*It is important to note that Mitchell and Ness is tasked with making classic throwback jerseys from several different eras in the NBA. This means that certain jerseys may have different features than other jerseys just due to the era the jersey comes from. The features I list below are specific to the jersey I own and may not be true across all Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys.

Features

  • Made with 100% Polyester material that is machine washable
  • Stitched on numbers, letters, and logos (on most jerseys)
  • Side splits on bottom hem to allow for freedom of movement
  • Crew neck; Rib-knit collar and arm openings
  • Sewn-on jock tag at bottom hem with team year and player name

How Do Mitchell and Ness Authentic NBA Jerseys Fit?

Authentic

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys fit very slim – I had to size up. If you prefer a loose fit, you may need to size up two sizes.

Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys use a numerical sizing system instead of the standard small-medium-large sizing that the Swingman jerseys use. According to the official size charts (and the jock tags on the jerseys) this is how the sizing works for the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys:

  • Size 36 = Small
  • Size 40 = Medium
  • Size 44 = Large
  • Size 48 = XL
  • Size 52 = XXL
  • Size 56 = 3XL
  • Size 60 = 4XL
  • Size 64 = 5XL

I usually wear a size medium in most everything (including the other NBA jerseys). So I ordered a size 40 initially, but it was very tight through the chest and stomach (I could barely get it on). I returned it for a size 44. Here is a look at my size 44 and how it fits:

Remember, I was able to wear a size medium Swingman even though it is a slim fit. Here I am wearing the size medium Swingman:

But the size 40 Authentic (medium equivalent per size chart), was just too small. I was able to take a picture of the size 40 Authentic before I returned it to compare it to the size medium of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman. Here is a look at the size 40 Authentic on top of the size medium Swingman:

As you can see, the Authentic size 40 on top is about an inch or two slimmer through the chest and stomach areas. It was just too slim so I returned it for a 44. So again, my recommendation is to size up the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys.

*Now, just like I said with the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys, one issue for sizing is Mitchell and Ness is tasked with making jerseys from several different eras of the NBA, so sizing may differ a bit depending on what era your jersey is from.

Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys have all the premium finishes and therefore have a higher price point than the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys.

Features

These are the features of the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys that I own. Features may vary depending on which jersey you choose.

  • Sewn-on numbers, letters, and logos, including an embroidered NBA logo
  • Classic Jock Tag which also features the year and player name of the jersey (photos below)
  • Climacool® fabric that is very comfortable against the skin
  • Material made with 100% 190-gram polyester
  • It’s important to note that Mitchell and Ness jerseys are not made by Nike, so there will not be a Nike logo on the jersey

NBA Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Review (How Mine Fits) – Sports Fan Focus

This is a Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey review. Mitchell and Ness makes classic NBA jerseys for some of the game’s greatest superstars and best throwback jersey styles. In my opinion, these are the best NBA throwback jerseys (affiliate links take you to NBAStore.com):

  • The Kobe Bryant iconic 24 throwback 08-09 LA Lakers jersey (click here to view)
  • The Kobe Bryant Authentic rookie “8” throwback 96-97 Los Angeles Lakers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Michael Jordan classic Authentic throwback 97-98 Chicago Bulls jersey (see picture here)

  • The Vince Carter Authentic 98-99 Toronto Raptors jersey (see picture here)

I own and review all the NBA jersey types (Nike, Mitchell and Ness, Fanatics). There are actually 5 different types of NBA fan jerseys. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Nike Swingman – This is Nike’s more affordable replica option. These are very popular among fans. Great option if you don’t want to pay up for the authentic jerseys. Slim fit, if you prefer baggy, I’d size up. Click here to view the Nike Swingman jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
  • Nike Authentic – These are the authentic jerseys. These jerseys have all the premium finishes, including stitched numbers and graphics. They have a slim fit, and you will need to size up if you prefer a baggy fit. Click here to view the Nike Authentic jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
  • Fanatics Fast Break Jersey – Another affordable replica jersey. It is made by Fanatics, not Nike. If you are operating on a tight budget, I suggest checking it out. This jersey has a true-to-size regular fit. Click here to view the Fanatics Fast Break jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
  • Mitchell & Ness Swingman – Mitchell & Ness makes classic throwback jerseys. The Swingman version is the more affordable option, but these jerseys still have awesome quality, including stitched graphics on most jerseys. This jersey is not as slim as the Nike jerseys. I recommend ordering your normal sizing. Click here to view the Mitchell & Ness Swingman throwback collection at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
  • Mitchell & Ness Authentic – These are also authentic jerseys, but Mitchell & Ness only makes throwback jerseys. If you want the authentic jersey of a current player, you will need to stick with the Nike Authentic jerseys we discussed earlier. These authentic throwbacks are some of the most coveted fan jerseys. Click here to view the Mitchell & Ness Authentic jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).

Even though I really like the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys, and they make awesome throwbacks, if you are looking for the jersey of a current player, you’ll need to stick with Nike or Fanatics.

This is the jersey type I recommend as best NBA fan jersey due to its combination of comfort, quality, and style (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).

In this Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey review, we will discuss Mitchell and Ness Swingman sizing and fit, and talk about the quality of the jersey (including pictures of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey that I own).

Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys have a much different fit than the Nike Swingman jerseys. Here is a look at my medium Nike Swingman sitting on top of my medium Mitchell and Ness Swingman:

As you can see there, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey fits larger, and longer, than the Nike Swingman jersey (but doesn’t mean you need to size down). In this article we discuss:

  • Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Pricing
  • Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Sizing
  • Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Fit
  • Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Quality (with photos)

It’s important to understand that Mitchell and Ness does not make jerseys of the current NBA players – those jerseys are made by Nike. Mitchell and Ness makes classic throwback jerseys for fans to wear.

Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Sizing and Fit

In this part of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Review we will discuss both the fit and the sizing of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey. Let’s start by discussing how the jersey fits.

How do Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jerseys Fit?

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey fit true to size, but does fit slim. It is slim in both the shoulders and the stomach. The jersey has a nice tailored fit that (in my opinion) fits true to size and doesn’t require you to size up. Although, if you want a very loose, relaxed fit for your jersey, you will need to size up.

(6’3″ 200 pounds size medium)

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey does run longer than the Nike Swingman jersey. Length was fine for me with a size medium at 6’3″ tall.

The official Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey page at NBAStore.com does address sizing, stating: “Sizing Tip: Product runs true to size. For a looser fit, we recommend ordering one size larger than you normally wear.” This is pretty much exactly how I described the fit above in the article, and I agree with this assessment of the sizing.

These jerseys are very comfortable to wear and did not irritate my skin or shoulders. We will discuss quality and material more later, but the material of these jerseys has that classic feel of NBA throwback jerseys, and isn’t super smooth material like modern day Nike Swingman jerseys are.

Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Sizing

This is where you can access the official size chart listed for the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys. That affiliate link takes you to the Mitchell and Ness Swingman product page at NBAStore.com (for the jersey I own), from there you can access the official size chart, which will be linked just above the available sizes.

Again, expect the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys to run longer than Nike jerseys, and to have a little bit more room in the stomach and chest areas as well.

Here is a look at my medium Mitchell and Ness Swingman sitting underneath my medium Nike Swingman jersey (we also have a Nike Swingman Jersey Review):

Here is a look at my Mitchell & Ness medium Swingman compared to a size medium Hanes undershirt straight out of the package:

To summarize the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey sizing and fit:

  • Comfort – The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey is comfortable to wear and does not bother my shoulders or underarms.
  • Fit – The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey runs true to size. It is a slimmer type cut, so if you prefer a loose jersey, size up.
  • Sizing – The jersey does have some extra length built in, so keep that in mind when ordering.

NBA Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Review: Features

Even though Mitchell and Ness does offer a more expensive ‘authentic’ option, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys honestly have excellent quality as well.

I was actually a bit surprised by this because it has some premium finishes that you would expect authentic jerseys to have, which is awesome. In the section below let’s discuss some of the features you can expect on a Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey:

Are Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jerseys Stitched?

Yes, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey that I own does have embroidered numbers, letters, and logos. This should be the case across most all Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys, but you can always contact customer service at NBAStore.com to confirm. Here is a look at the embroidered graphics on my jersey:

Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey Review: Photos

Here are photos of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman Jersey that I own. It is a size medium, and I am 6’3″ and weigh 200 pounds. For reference, here I am wearing a medium t-shirt:

Front

As you can see, the jersey has a slim fit. The jersey features sewn-on numbers, letters, and logos, and on the bottom front of the jersey you can see the Mitchell and Ness specific jock tag, where it lists the player and the year of the throwback jersey. You can also see the side slits on the bottom hem for added freedom of movement.

Back

Back of the jersey also features sewn-on name and numbers. The jersey has plenty of length.

Graphics

Close-up look at the stitched-on numbers, letters, and logos. Again, the embroidered finishes is a nice touch and makes it well-made even if it isn’t an authentic jersey. The NBA logo on my jersey is embroidered. Most Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys should have an embroidered NBA logo on the front, but this may differ depending on the specific jersey you choose.

Comparison to Nike

Here are some comparison photos of the Nike Swingman I have and the Mitchell and Ness Swingman I have (both are size mediums).

As you can see, the Nike Swingman jerseys run slimmer than the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys. Also, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys run a couple inches longer. The Nike Swingman jerseys do not have sewn on names and numbers, but the Mitchell and Ness jerseys do. Both jerseys are very nice jerseys to own.

***Don’t forget, we also review the Nike Swingman jersey pictured below. Out of all the NBA fan jerseys, the Nike Swingman (in my opinion) is the best. If you want to check out the Nike Swingman jerseys, you can do so by clicking on this link (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore. com). The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys are an awesome way to rep a classic throwback jersey of your favorite past player or team. The NBA has some awesome throwback jersey styles that will always be popular to wear.

Expect the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys to run true to size, but they do have a slim fit. If you prefer a loose-fitting jersey, you will need to size up. They also have more length than the Nike Swingman jerseys do. Overall, the Mitchell and Ness jerseys are made with excellent quality, including stitched on numbers, letters, and logos (in most cases).
