A Minecraft player decides to pursue their hoop dreams in the block world, creating a basketball court using very simple materials and methods.
Now over a decade removed from its release, Minecraft continues to be the de facto sandbox survival game for all ages and types of gamer. Between continued support from Microsoft through updates, the extensive list of craftable items, and the near-limitless level of creativity, Minecraft reinvented sandbox games and now is a defining example of them.
Because of the creativity factor, over the years players have found ways to create more unique works of art as well as more impressive pieces of tech and machinery. From a replica fleet of Minecraft star destroyers to entire cities to fully functioning cars or tanks, players continue to reinvent as well as come up with new ideas to further push the limits of the game's creativity.

Using wood planks, obsidian, pressure plates, slime blocks, item hoppers, and red dye, Reddit user GenericRedstonGenius managed to create a full basketball court that allowed them to shoot into a hoop to score as well as jump high into the air to score. While not as complicated as Minecraft's version of Pac-Man, GenericRedstonGenius' creation would easily allow for a full-court game with teams vying for a win.
Using the red dye as the ball, teams would attempt to jump in between each other and the hoops hoping to "steal" the red dye when a player throws it; this would make for exciting defense, especially when two players jump high into the air for a shot. However, to ensure that players do not simply run up and down the court without consequence, perhaps passing rules could be made.
Perhaps the coolest thing about GenericRedstonGenius' take on basketball is the fact that it is so simple it could be accomplished in survival mode with ease. Many creations like a Minecraft recreation of the U.K.'s houses of parliament would take ages to make without creative mode; however, GenericRedstonGenius' basketball game is simple and fun, making it a very cool and easily repeatable creation any player could enjoy.

This Minecraft Player Made A Fully Working Basketball Court In-Game
In Minecraft, you can basically do whatever you want. The blocky, near-infinite game world has been a haven for creative minds for years, with so many wacky and downright amazing in-game creations to be hold. And this guy just added to that long list of great projects.

The Minecraft player, who goes by the name GenericRedstonGenius on Reddit, managed to create a fully functioning basketball court in game that you could actually play in. According to Game Rant, the user used a combination of obsidian, pressure plates, wood planks, slime blocks, red dye, and item hoppers to achieve the feat.
A video of Generic playing basketball on the court they made was shared on the Minecraft subreddit recently, where it has already earned over 23,000 upvotes at the time of this writing:
As you can see there, the player is sown attempting what looks to be slam dunks using some red dye as a ball and some makeshift jumping platforms to launch them up into the air. They made the hoop using a item hoppers, where the red dye basketball will be placed to score. To get the "ball" back, the player goes to their inventory screen.
But while this is amazing enough, the original Game Rant report also says that this fully functioning court can be made with ease in either Creative or Survival Mode. This can be a huge thing if you want to replicate it, since it will often take you ages to make something if you're not using the game's Creative Mode outright.
Either way, other members of the Minecraft subreddit look to be pretty impressed with the project. They were even talking among themselves about the setting of specific rules to govern the game, so it could be played full court among two teams of players. Some people were even comparing it to a variation of basketball called Slam Ball, which used trampolines to help players dunk - much like how Generic's jumping platforms worked.

As astounding as the in-game basketball recreation is, it is not the first game-within-a-game attempt in the long list of Minecraft recreations over the years. Other people have already tried this, and the results are quite interesting as well.
YouTuber Mysticat, for instance, managed to recreate an entire game of Frogger (you know, that old school arcade game) within Minecraft. But the project wasn't entirely done from scratch, as per Game Rant: Mysticat used an old project wherein they were able to create a moving car. And when the project was done, they asked YouTubers to try to beat it, with hilarious results:
Another game that became part of Minecraft recreations is a version of Pac-Man, made by another YouTuber, Fundy. The map was designed to be almost identical to the one in the original, and it presents an angle of the game that's never been explored before: what if you were in the maze and not looking down on it from above? It is necessary to take into account the technical features of the game. The three-point line in basketball is 6.75 meters from the hoop. Therefore, it is necessary that the size of the site be at least 10 × 13 meters. If you are not going to train three-point shots, a 5 × 5 meter court will do.

It is better to buy racks from well-known manufacturers. So, the American companies Spalding or Royal Fitness guarantee high quality, durability and safety.
Basketball backboards can be made in the country with your own hands from a board, chipboard or plywood remnants. If this option does not suit you, you can purchase semi-professional or professional options in stores.
