The Tar Heels played their first season in 1910, and UNC is considered to have one the most successful college basketball programs in the last 50 years. They boast an impressive list of former students who have made it big in the NBA.
UNC holds the record for most Final Four appearances (21), and are tied with Duke for second-highest number of NCAA Championship Game appearances at 11 apiece. UCLA and Kentucky are tied in first place with 12.

North Carolina's NCAA championships
North Carolina first won the NCAA championship in 1957, in a three-overtime 54-53 victory over Kansas.
It took them 25 years to repeat the feat, however, after narrowly beating Georgetown 63-62. After that, the gaps between championships became smaller. They won against the Michigan 77-71 in 1993; against Illinois 75-70 in 2005, and over Michigan State, 89-72, in 2009.
The Tar Heels last won the championship in 2017 against Gonzaga, 71-65.
North Carolina currently ranks third in number of national titles with six, behind UCLA which has 11, and Kentucky with eight.
If they win, the No. 8 Tar Heels will also tie the Villanova Wildcats for lowest overall seed to ever win March Madness.
North Carolina as an 8th seed is now tied for the lowest seed ever to reach the National Championship.
What a run for the Heels.

"Sausage" General ", sausages" Baku "! The bus leaves for Amurzet in three minutes…”
BIROBIJAN, NOVEMBER 10, “NABAT”. - This nasty story began many years ago - even under Governor Nikolai Volkov. Then the country lived in illusions about the national project for the development of agriculture. The Jewish Autonomous Region allocated huge amounts of money for lending to farmers, and the regional government acted as a guarantor for a number of projects. In the name of a “good cause,” the regional bus station and other state assets were mortgaged.
A high-profile project went bankrupt: Australian cows, brought in huge numbers to the Jewish autonomy from a distant country where kangaroos always jump, did not survive the harsh Far Eastern climate, and the farms built according to the national project fell apart, not having time to accept obese guests. Together with the money for the long-suffering agrarian sector, the state bus station was also crying, acquired under the hammer by the enterprising "sausage baron" Hikmet Mammadov, who soon "bought" for himself "for the collection" the mandate of "United Russia" in the Tikhomirov Legislative Assembly.
Even at the dawn of this whole epic, some perspicacious citizens assumed that the bus station itself initially interested Mr. Mamedov in much the same way as, say, the issues of insemination of cattle occupy the attention of the prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theater at the moment of the culmination of the ballet "Swan Lake". "Honored before the Fatherland" businessman, the people of Birobidzhan saw through on the distant approaches. Everyone understood that only a tasty plot of land in the very center of the city attracts the sausage baron.
In any case, his actions spoke of Mamedov's true desires. Since the acquisition of the building, he has practically not invested in the old bus station, and in recent years he has generally begun to seek the demolition of the functional facility from the government of the Jewish Autonomous Region. But if the former leaders of the region were still afraid of popular indignation over the destruction of the regional bus station, then , with the advent of the “governor-decider”, apparently, it became much easier to turn various geshefts and “bring cases” into the right offices. Temporary workers and guest performers, who stuck around the "gray house", waited for the optimal time. And after all the elections (gubernatorial and parliamentary) they gave the go-ahead for the destruction of the old bus station. (Just think, what nonsense! After all, the Goldsteins, Semyonovs and Turbins do not use public transport, they do not go to the villages by bus, but they have the opportunity to enjoy the miserable landscapes of everyday life in the Jewish Autonomous Region from the darkened windows of service Lexuses and Land Cruisers).
Quite recently, in June of this year, we, summing up the guesses of the old years, put forward on the Nabat page the assumption that in the foreseeable future “on a luxurious plot of land in the city center there will appear… another prefabricated “Sausage City” with an adjacent parking lot for convenient shopping…”
Our intuition did not let us down. Tycoon Mammadov's plans to "model a modular blow" for the city and region were fully clarified with the start of work on the demolition of the old bus station building. In the pro-government media, in response to the critical publication of “Nabat” that passengers on interregional and intermunicipal routes are forced to wait for a bus in the open air, articles appeared with approximately the following headings: "It became known when a shopping and entertainment center in Birobidzhan will be built on the site of the bus station."
The other day all doubts were finally dispelled by the head of the department of roads and transport of the government of the Jewish Autonomous Region Evgeny Turbin. Answering the questions of the so-called Regional Control Center (another useless office of our time), the official explained to the people what, in fact, the building would be erected on the site of the former Birobidzhan bus station.
- Here is the question. The building is called the bus station, and there is some commercial content in it. And here is a slightly different story: the businessman is going to call the building itself not a bus station, but a shopping center, and the territory will be made specifically for the bus station, - said Mr. Turbin.
At the same time, the chief road builder of the autonomy added that, in general, he still does not know what the name of the new “department” under the construction of Mamedov's department store, which should perform transport functions, will be called. Whether it will be a bus station, or a bus station. Everything, they say, depends on the traffic flow.
In short, if we understand correctly what Evgeny Turbin said, then Birobidzhans and residents of the region will no longer see their ears as a separate functional building of the bus station. Welcome to another grocery and manufactured goods supermarket with a ticket sales room for inter-municipal and inter-regional routes, which will be kindly allocated to you by the deputy-philanthropist and holder of the medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" Mammadov Hikmet Aliheydar oglu! Have you imagined this “consumer paradise”? Do you already feel genuine concern from the United Russia party and the Goldstein government?
And in the shopping center, in addition to a wide range of consumer goods, there will probably also be a loudspeaker emitting positive sounds from the era of victorious capitalism: “Dear passengers! In our auto-trading area you can buy General's (male strength) sausages, Bakinskie sausages from Breeder at a discount! The bus to Amurzet leaves in three minutes. I repeat: Generalskaya sausage, Baku sausages, the bus to Amurzet leaves in three minutes…”
And go, you, citizens, deeply touched by such service and attention. And even to the very Bidzhan Wits, ideal turbine roads will not shake your impressions ...
