What is basketball?
Basketball is a sport where two teams, each with five players, compete on a rectangular court against each other.
The aim is to get the ball through a hoop placed high on a backboard on the opponent's side of the court while keeping the ball out of your team's ring.
It is a common sport played worldwide with a small, bouncy orange(orange-brown) ball.
Basketball players primarily use dribbling, shooting, running, and jumping skills. A basket made from outside the three-point line is worth three points, while a basket made from inside the three-point line is worth two points. If a player has too much physical contact, he or she might be awarded one-point free throws.
The game usually lasts four quarters, with the winning team being the one with the most points at the end of the four quarters. If the score is tied at the end of regulation, the game will go into overtime, which is extra time for one side to win the match.

Materials
- 1 White sheet of paper
- Pencil
- Colored Pencil
- Pen
- Eraser
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1. Basketball ring and hoop
- First, draw the backboard, then a tiny, narrow oval a little lower from the middle of the backboard for the basketball hoop.
- For the net, draw two straight lines on the side and diagonal lines in opposite directions.
- Next, draw a small square at the back of the hoop. This is the shooter's square which helps the basketball players in aiming the ball inside the ring.
- For the pole, draw a long, narrow rectangle in the middle.
- Lastly, design your backboard in any way you like.
Step 2. Basketball
4. Draw a circle for basketball.
5. For the patterns, draw curves on each side of the ball and a small ‘t' in the middle.
6. Basketballs are usually orange, but you can color your ball any way you like.
Step 3. Basketball Players
First, let's draw a basketball player shooting. - Draw a circle for the head and a rectangle for the body.
- For the legs, draw two rectangles that bend halfway and two small ovals for the feet.
- For the arms, draw two slightly curved rectangles upward on the top of the body and curved lines to draw the hand.
You can either draw the hands like the player is wearing mittens (just like in our example) or add details by drawing the fingers.
- For the hair, we used curls and curves in the example. But you can draw or design the hair any way you want.
- Next, draw a face that is facing upward since our basketball player is aiming at the hoop. Then draw filled circles for the eyes, a slight curve for the nose, and a big smile.
- Lastly, design your players' clothes/ uniform.
Basketball players wear uniforms or jerseys that have a number on them. I'd like to add the number '20' on my basketball player, so I drew a big '20' at the player's back. You can put any number that you like for your character.
If you don't want your basketball player to wear a uniform or jersey, you can use different patterns or designs on the shirt!
Next, draw a player that is in the defense part of the game.- Draw a circle for the head slightly tilted to one side and a rectangle for the body.
- Draw curved rectangles for the legs, then two small ovals for the feet. The defense player usually jumps to stop the ball from reaching the basketball hoop.
- For the arm, draw a rectangle upward and an opposite rectangle downward for the other arm.
At the end of the rectangles, use curved lines to draw the hand.
- For the hair, we used a zigzag pattern in the example. But you can draw or design the hair any way you want!
- Draw two filled circles for the eyes, a small triangle for the nose, and a curved shape for the mouth.
- Lastly, design your players' clothes/ uniform.
Step 4. Basketball Cheerleader
- Draw a circle for the head and a rectangle for the body.
- Draw curved rectangles for the legs then two small ovals for the feet.
- For the pom poms, draw two big circles that are shaped in zigzag patterns.
- You can add any design or clothing patterns that you like for your cheerleader. In our example, I used a simple basketball in the middle of the shirt.
- Cheerleaders are usually girls, so a ponytail hairstyle is good.
- Lastly, draw filled circles for the eyes, a slight curve for the nose, and a big smile.
Tips for art-mazing success:
- Color your drawings to make them lively.
- Add other things to your drawing and make a good story out of it.
- You can draw a whole basketball team on a huge basketball court!

Step 1.
In the center of a sheet of paper we designate 2 ovals
Step 2.
With light strokes we outline the line of the legs
Step 3.
We mark the hands on the body
Step 4.
We draw the boy's face in profile, so we draw the eyes, nose and mouth taking into account this angle.
Step 5.
Boys, as a rule, wear a short haircut, so we draw hair with jerky lines. Don't forget to draw the ear
Step 6.
The next step is to draw plump children's hands, hands and fingers.
Step 7.
Then we get to the clothes. Since this is happening in the summer, let's draw a short-sleeve shirt for our hero.
Step 8.
Then we draw loose shorts to the knee, shoes and socks
Step 9.
The boy is watching with interest the boat, which he built himself and set sail.
Step 10.
Smooth lines depict the flow of the stream. To us, it looks like a miniature sea.
Step 11.
We start hatching the drawing traditionally from shadow areas.
Step 12.
With wide and soft strokes we draw the baby's hair
Step 13.
We are working on a shirt and pants, not forgetting about shoes
Step 14.
To prevent the drawing from hanging in the air, draw a shadow under its feet.
Step 15.
At the final stage, with the help of an elastic band, we add liveliness and volume to the drawing.

How to draw a child: drawing children of different ages
Children make us rejoice and smile, and cheerful and curious kids touch the eyes of even the most serious adults. Children are a very popular topic in the visual arts, because it is so natural to draw something that delights. Today's lesson is devoted to how to draw a child in which we will study the proportions of the body depending on the child's age.
Rules for constructing a portrait
First, let's look at the features of building a head, because the proportions of a child's face differ significantly from those of an adult.
- The skull in relation to the face occupies a much larger part than in adults. Forehead in relation to the face is much larger than that of an adult.
- In adults the eyes are on the central horizontal line. In children, eyebrows are placed on this line, and the eyes are still much lower.
- The chin, jaw, cheekbones and bridge of the nose are not yet fully developed in children, so they stand out much less than adults.
- The ears of in humans are always placed in line with the eyes (above) and the base of the nose (below), children are no exception. Since the line of the eyes and nose is slightly shifted down, the ears are also placed a little lower.
For that? to quickly and correctly build a baby's head, without going into details, it is enough to know one simple formula:
- Draw an oval for the head, it should be quite round, and immediately divide it in half with a horizontal and vertical line.
- We divide the distance from the horizontal axis to the end of the oval into four equal parts, so we will find the line: the eyebrows passing under the eyes, the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth. The illustration shows in red the line that divides the oval of the head horizontally into two equal parts, this is the line of the eyebrows. Blue shows the line of the eyes, or rather, the lower eyelid is on this line. The nose line is marked in green, and the mouth line is marked in orange.
- We draw large, wide-set eyes, slightly prominent eyebrows, a snub nose and plump lips and a tiny chin. Under the chin, you can add a few folds, add hairs, ears and you're done. 🙂
Head proportions depending on age
The older the baby, the closer the proportions of his head to the proportions of an adult. Let's analyze everything as the baby grows up, this will help you understand how to draw a child, depending on his age.
The illustration above shows the sequence of drawing two children's portraits. The first is just a baby, up to a year old, the second is a girl 3-4 years old. In babies up to a year, the proportions still correspond to the scheme above. In older children, the lines of the eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth slowly shift upward until the eyes reach the center line, as in adults, a more expressive chin also appears.
In children of primary school age, these lines are shifted by about half, then they are almost equal to the proportions of adults. Here is a clear illustration. Here is how to draw children aged 6-10 years old, the proportions of their faces have shifted to the top, and are very close to the proportions of adults. However, we are well aware that these are children. And there are a few little secrets here, which ones, read on.
Features of a child's portrait
A child's face can be very elongated or, on the contrary, very round, the proportions, depending on the shape of the skull and individual characteristics, can vary greatly.
What makes a child's portrait look like a child's?
- First of all, how big the iris seems to us in relation to the protein. The smaller the baby, the more part of the eye is occupied by the iris.
- The distance from the outer corner of the eye to the ear is greater than in adults (greater than the length of one eye).
- The nose of is not yet formed, and therefore small and cute.
In addition to fairly simple rules for constructing the head, it is imperative to know and correctly show some anatomical features of children's faces :
- The bridge of the nose in babies is not yet formed and is slightly protruding, it is rounded and much more recessed than in adults.
- The cartilage of the nose is also not yet formed. While it is much smaller than it will be when the baby grows up. Have you seen children with long noses? The smaller the child, the simpler the anatomy of his nose. Almost all children's noses are slightly upturned, snub-nosed. Then, gradually, some structural features are added to these spouts.
- Nostrils are usually large, draw them at a fairly wide distance from each other. This is important so that your baby really looks like a child, and not an old man.
- Cheekbones do not stand out in babies because they are underdeveloped and well covered by plump cheeks.
- The lips of are plump, in most cases the upper lip hangs over the lower one.
- The chin of is also much smaller than in adults, it is not yet sufficiently developed, therefore it does not protrude forward, but rather is recessed under the lower lip.
- Under the chin line, there are most often fat folds that visually lengthen the head and make the neck inconspicuous.
How the face (line of the eyes) changes depending on the age of the child
Let's clarify very important points again:
- The smaller the child, the larger his eyes seem. The eyes of children are placed far enough apart, at least there is such a visual effect. If you draw the eyes close, the baby will be unsympathetic. The inner corners of the eyes are in line with the nostrils, and the bridge of the nose almost does not stand out.
- The iris in children is fully formed and will no longer grow, while all other parts of the face are still undergoing development and growth. Therefore, on a small child's face, the eyes seem very large and expressive. From under the eyelids, we see most of the iris and very little of the white part of the eyeball.
- In an adult, the distance between the eyes and ears is equal to the length of one eye, in children this distance is greater. As the child grows, this distance decreases.
In full growth
We draw a child in full growth according to the same principles as for an adult. We start from a primitive skeleton, build up muscles, add details.
Read more about how to draw a person in full growth here.
There are two important points in building a child's figure:
- the smaller the child, the shorter his legs in relation to his entire height
- and the larger the head in relation to the whole figure
In newborn babies, the head occupies 1/4 of the height of his body, and the length of the legs is slightly more than a quarter of the height of the baby.
As the baby grows, its proportions change. Basically, the legs and torso grow, while the size of the head changes very slightly. Below is a diagram that will help you find the correct proportions of the child's figure, according to his age.
How to draw a two-year-old child: you need to indicate his height and divide it into four equal parts. The head will take up a little less than a quarter. The navel will be slightly below the middle. The height of the legs is less than half the height.
The smaller the child, the less prominent his muscles. Babies up to a year old are plump, there are many folds on their arms and legs, their palms and feet are rounded. In newborns, the neck does not stand out much, since there are several folds under the chin.
Landmarks and ratios
- Elbows in people of any age are placed at the level of the end of the ribs. Keep this in mind when drawing a child.
- We begin to draw the hands at the level of the pubic bone.
- Leg length from hip to knee, always slightly longer than the distance from knee to foot.
- The length of the forearm is slightly less than the length of the humerus.
