How to Watch TNT For Free: Where to Stream NBA & NHA Without Cable

When it comes to cable television, TNT is watched by more people than any other network—but there’s also a way to watch TNT without cable! Let’s dive into how to watch TNT for free below.

TNT—originally an acronym for Turner Network Television—is a basic cable and satellite television channel that broadcasts across the United States. The channel’s original purpose was to air spillover content from its sister channel TBS, which consisted primarily of classic films and television shows; however, since June 2001, the channel’s programming has largely included television series and feature films, with a strong emphasis on drama. Shows like Snowpiercer,Animal Kingdom, Good Behavior, The Last Ship and Claws are just some of the wildly popular original series on TNT, along with reruns of current and former primetime crime dramas like Castle, Bones and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Aside from original dramas and reality TV programming, TNT is also home to several professional sporting events, such as NBA and college basketball games, PGA golf and hockey games (beginning in 2022, TNT is home to the NHA Winter Classic, followed by the Stanley Cup Finals in 2023). The channel also carries professional wrestling from AEW Rampage, airing live every Friday night.

In 2022, TNT also announced a new initiative to expand its coverage of diverse stories and voices alongside network stars like Tracy Morgan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Niecy Nash. The initiative saw the launch of original content like Securing the Bag, which tells the story of Black college athletes learning how to monetize their careers, and Taste the Culture with Justin Sutherland, which follows the Fast Foodies chef as he explores stories of food bringing communities together. Brett Weitz, General Manager of TBS, TNT and truTV, issued a statement revealing TNT’s commitment to an “equitable and inclusive culture,” noting at the time, “This isn’t simply a promise or a campaign; it’s part of the TNets DNA and will continue to be on display as these underrepresented audiences are showcased and highlighted throughout TNets branding campaigns, social media verticals, publicity efforts and TV series.

If you happen to have a cable package (like this bundle from Xfinity, Verizon Fios or DIRECTV), then you can easily catch all these shows and more with TNT on your TV. But for the cable-cutters out there, don’t worry; we’re giving you tips for how to watch TNT for free below.

Whether you’re looking for a place to stream Snowpiercer or catch the latest basketball game, you have plenty of options to stream TNT without cable this year. In general, your best bet is to try out a live TV streaming service that will allow you to watch the channel online as it airs live. We’ve included the best packages below, each of which offers TNT to watch your favorite shows, sports and wrestling events online. What’s more, most of the services below offer reasonable free trial periods, giving you a way to watch TNT without cable for free. More on that below!

Sling is one of your best options to watch TNT without cable. The streamer currently offers two plans: Sling Blue and Sling Orange. Both cost $35 per month and offer TNT. If we had to choose one, though, we recommend Sling Blue to watch TNT online. Not only does the plan include more channels for sports fans, but it also allows users to stream on three devices, whereas Sling Orange only allows one. This means that you can split the cost of Sling Blue with two other people, allowing three households to watch TNT without cable for just over $10 each.

FuboTV also offers users a way to watch TNT without cable. A FuboTV monthly membership costs $64.99, which runs you far less than typical cable bundles. Along with TNT, the streamer includes channels like NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS and other top channels. FuboTV is also a favorite for sports fans, as it offers NHL Network, NBA TV, MLB Network and Golf Channel, among others.

Aside from sports, a FuboTV subscription gives you access to over 100 more channels—including AMC, Bravo, E! and Showtime—along with at least 250 hours of DVR and a streaming library with hundreds of TV shows and movies. And just to sweeten the deal, FuboTV even allows up to three screens to stream at once so that family and friends can join you as you watch TNT without cable.

If you’re looking for a complete package to rival typical cable bundles and watch TNT without cable, we highly recommend Hulu+ With Live TV. The service, which costs $69.99 per month, offers more than 75 live channels, 50 hours of DVR and hundreds of hours of TV shows and movies not available on Hulu’s base plan—including TNT, of course, to watch your favorite shows or games as they air live.

Not to mention, Hulu+ With Live TV now comes with Disney+ and ESPN+ at no extra cost to subscribers. This saves users around $14.99 per month than if they paid for those services separately, and gives you far more options when compared to other streamers.

While we already know there’s a way to watch TNT without cable, is there an option to watch TNT for free? Yes! Luckily, many of the streaming services included here are currently offering free trial periods which will allow you to watch TNT for free. One of your best bets is to use FuboTV’s free trial. The service, which includes the TNT channel, currently offers a 7-day free trial which you can cancel if you decide not to stick with the service. If you’re looking for a shorter trial period to watch TNT for free, you can also consider Sling’s 3-day free trial instead.

How to Stream TNT Live Without Cable: (2022 UPDATED GUIDE)

How to Watch TNT Without Cable TV

Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV include TNT in its channel lineups. Each live TV service has no contracts, free trials and work on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google Chromecast with Google TV and other Android TV devices.

Stream TNT live without cable TV

Streaming TNT without a cable subscription is pretty easy these days.

It’s just a matter of choosing which live TV streaming service is the right fit.

My top pick right now is Sling TV because it’s the cheapest option at $35 per month. If you’re an NBA fan, you can add NBA TV for game coverage through the Sports Extra bundle for another $11 per month. That still makes Sling TV the lowest-priced option.

If you prepay for two months of Sling TV, you can get a free streaming device. There are no obligations after that.

My runner-up pick is Hulu with Live TV because you’re getting many staples from a Comcast or Spectrum subscription, and a lot of other neat features you don’t have with cable.

A subscription costs $69.99 per month. You’ll get 75+ live TV channels, unlimited Cloud DVR, and unlimited access to ESPN+, Disney+ and Hulu’s on-demand library. You can look over Hulu’s Live TV channel package before subscribing.

If Hulu isn’t for you, no worries.

This guide breaks down all of your options for live streaming TNT with Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick (or Cube), Apple TV, Android TV, game consoles, iPhones and Android smartphones.

Nobody wants to be missing Animal Kingdom, or NBA basketball. The good news is you don’t have to. There are more ways to stream TNT than ever before, and your options are cheaper than paying Comcast, Spectrum or some other cable provider.

I will also show you what’s available on the TNT app, and the TNT website. If you’re looking for a way to binge watch a brand new show, you might want to try Sling TV or Hulu with Live TV.

What are the most popular shows on TNT?

Since TNT is focusing on original programming now, you can expect more appealing shows to crop up alongside in-demand sports like NBA games, college basketball and overflow from Major League Baseball.

Animal Kingdom, Claws and The Alienist were big hits on the original programming front. And TNT has had continued success on that front with Snowpiercer

Can I stream TNT shows online?

Your best bet to watch full seasons of TNT shows, especially older ones, is through various streaming services.

Season 1 through 5 of Animal Kingdom is on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Prime subscribers can watch every episode without any limits or commercials. Amazon has a 30-day free trial of Prime Video, so you could potentially binge watch your way through the series in a month.

Hulu on-demand is another way to watch full seasons of TNT shows for super cheap at $5.99 per month. You’ll find two seasons of Legends, seven seasons of Rizzoli & Isles and three seasons of Claws. Hulu has a free 30-day trial for its on-demand service.

Having access to the TNT app can be handy if you just missed an episode that aired. But I wouldn’t rely on it to get me everything I want.

The TNT app features live NBA games, and a few episodes from recent shows, but not full seasons. You will need some kind of pay-TV subscription from a cable TV or satellite provider to activate the TNT app. Live TV services such as Sling TV or Hulu + Live TV don’t currently support activating the TNT app.

Stream TNT on Hulu with Live TV

Hulu’s Live TV package has 75+ live channels that includes TNT, ESPN, ESPN2, FS1. HGTV, National Geographic and Viceland.

Hulu’s live TV service also carries local NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX stations. If you’re a sports fan, having those local stations will be important for baseball, football and soccer.

You can look over Hulu’s local channels offered in your area by punching in your zip code.

A subscription comes with 50 hours of Cloud DVR to record whatever you want.

You can stream Hulu with Live TV on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android and Chromecast. Subscribers can also use their account to sign in to 38 apps for networks like FOX, History Channel, NBC Sports and Travel Channel. Sorry, you can’t activate the TNT app.

Considering that you’re getting the live TV plan and the full catalog of Hulu on-demand library and Hulu Originals like The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s unlikely that you’ll run out of things to watch.

A subscription costs $69.99 per month. There’s no contract or hidden fees. You can easily cancel online before a free trial ends if you don’t like the service.

Stream TNT on YouTube TV

YouTube TV carries TNT along with 85+ channels. A subscription costs $64.99 per month. Subscribers get local ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations with some cable TV staples. There’s ESPN, ESPN2, Fox News and TBS. A subscription includes unlimited Cloud DVR.

YouTube TV works with Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast with Google TV and Apple TV.

You can sign up for a free 7-day trial.

Sling TV, a budget choice for live TNT streaming without cable

Sling TV is one of the most popular platforms out there for streaming live TV. You can live stream TNT with either one of their main channel bundles.

The Sling Orange bundle has 34 channels for $35 per month. It’s definitely the cheapest way to watch an NBA on TNT or the latest episode of a TNT show live as it airs.

Comedy Central, EPIX Drive-In, HGTV and TBS are included in the Sling Orange plan.

Sling Blue subscribers get 47 channels for $35 per month with extras like NFL Network, National Geographic and regional NBC sports networks. Sling TV has 50 hours of Cloud DVR for free. For 200 hours, it costs an extra $5 per month.

Sling’s Sports Extra bundle costs an extra $11 per month. Sports Extra includes NFL RedZone, NBA TV, NHL Network, SEC Network, PAC 12 Network, ACC Network, ACC Network Extra, Longhorn Network, beIN Sports, MLB Network, SEC Network Plus, ESPNU, ESPNews, Tennis Channel, MLB Strike Zone and Outside TV.

Check out either Sling Orange or Sling Blue. When you sign up for Sling TV, there are no contracts, or extra fees like cable TV. If you sign up for a brief subscription, you can also get a free or discounted streaming device.

You can read my review of Sling TV for a more detailed breakdown of the service.

Is TNT on fuboTV?

Not anymore. TNT was among a group of channels owned by the Turner Broadcasting System Inc. that left fuboTV’s channel lineup on July 1, 2020.

Other Turner-owned channels dropped that day from fuboTV included TBS, CNN, CNN International, CNN en Espanol, HLN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies, truTV and Boomerang.

Watch TNT on DIRECTV STREAM

DIRECTV STREAM has TNT on its Entertainment channel bundle.

Subscribers get 65+ channels, including ESPN, FS1 and local ABC, NBC and CBS stations. Unlimited Cloud DVR and 40,000 on-demand shows and movies are included with any plan.

You can sign up for a free 5-day trial.

You can subscribe month to month and cancel whenever you want. DIRECTV STREAM works on Roku, Android TV, Fire TV devices, Apple TV and smartphones and tablets. Subscribers can watch on 20 screens at once.

You can look over the different channel lineups before deciding whether to sign up.

What’s the best way to watch a TNT live stream online?

Live streaming TNT is a cinch. It’s just a matter of choosing how you want to do it. Here are your best options.

Want the lowest price possible? Then Sling TV is the way to go.

The Sling Orange or Blue bundle costs $35 per month. Sign up for either Sling TV channel bundle without any obligations or long-term contracts. You can also sign up for the Sports Extra bundle to get NBA TV and 14 more sports channels.

Hulu with Live TV will give you the best overall value as a straight up cable TV replacement with a big on-demand streaming library.

You’re getting 75+ live TV channels, ESPN+, Disney+ and 50 hours of Cloud DVR for $69.99 per month. You can also activate about 38 apps, some of which give you live streams of channels.

If you already subscribe to Hulu on-demand, Disney+ or ESPN+, then it makes a lot of sense to sign up for Hulu with Live TV and roll your streaming packages into one price.

There’s no contracts or hidden fees. Just cancel online if you don’t like the service before your trial ends.

Set a reminder on your smartphone if you’re doing a week-long free trial. That way you can cancel without getting billed if you decide to not keep the service.

Whether you’re looking for a way to watch March Madness or the latest episodes of Animal Kingdom, there are plenty of ways to stream TNT without cable.
