How To Watch Duke Blue Devils Basketball Live in 2022
Sportsnaut
The Duke Blue Devils are one of the best teams out there; in fact, they’re tied with UCLA for the fourth all-time NCAA Championships with five victories under their belt. The team also boasts 17 Final Fours, and the NCAA-best tournament wins percentage. The team is just as prestigious as the school it calls home, and fans have a lot to cheer for.
Jon Scheyer took over as head coach in June of this year, and it will be interesting to see how he leads the team in the upcoming season. That’s a lot of pressure as he tries to fill the legendary Mike Krzyzewski’s shoes.
Whether you’re a long-time Blue Devils fan or you’re just discovering the team, the 2022-23 season will be pivotal for the team. You can catch nearly all the Blue Devils’ games on ESPN, the ACC Network, and channels like ABC and CBS.

Of all streaming platforms, Sling TV offers the best value. At just $40 for its most basic plan, Sling Orange is an affordable choice that’s catered to collegiate sports. Sling Blue is more for professional football fans. If you want the best of both worlds, you can combine Sling Orange and Sling Blue for just $55 per month.
Sling Orange has ESPN, but it doesn’t include the ACC Network. For that, you’ll need the Sports Extra add-on for another $11 per month. Even with that added expense, you’re still only paying $51 per month (or $66 at most) for all the channels you need to follow your favorite team — way less than if you had Hulu + Live TV or another competitor.

For the first time in seven months, Duke Basketball will be playing against another team on your television. No more re-watching games from the team's Final Four run last year, no more fondly remembering the over four decades of Coach K's run as head coach, now it's the time to turn the page to the Jon Scheyer Era of Duke Hoops.
With eleven newcomers and only Jeremy Roach and Jaylen Blakes back from last year's team, it will be more than just the person sitting in the closest seat on the bench to the scorer's table that is different. Seven members of the nation's No. 1 recruiting class make up the majority of the new faces on the Blue Devils' roster, with Dereck Lively, Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell, Tyrese Proctor, Jaden Schutt, and Christian Reeves making their television debuts tonight on the college level. Four graduate transfers, Ryan Young (Northwestern), Jacob Grandison (Illinois), Kale Catchings (Harvard), and Max Johns (Princeton), make up the remainder of Scheyer's first team.

Scheyer Enters First Season as Head Coach
Former Duke All-American and two-time team captain Jon Scheyeris the 20th head coach in Duke's storied basketball history. He was named to the position on June 4, 2021, succeeding Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski, who announced in June 2021 his plan to retire from coaching following the 2021-22 season.
The 35-year-old Scheyer is among the youngest head coaches in Division-I men's basketball, and the youngest at a power conference institution. He was named to The Athletic's 40 Under 40 in college sports in 2022, and was previously touted as one of the best assistant coaches in college basketball.
He has vast experience on the Duke bench, having served on Krzyzewski's staff since the 2013-14 season. His previous roles with the Blue Devils include special assistant, assistant coach and the previous three years as associate head coach.
As a player, Scheyer sparked the Blue Devils to two ACC championships and the 2010 NCAA title as a player from 2007- 10. In his time on the coaching staff, he helped Duke compile a 245-71 (.775) record, a national championship (2015), two Final Fours (2015, 2022) and two ACC Tournament crowns (2017, 2019).
The Northbrook, Ill., native has been integral in the recruiting and development of several young Duke stars since joining the staff, and landed the nation's No. 1-ranked recruiting class for the 2022-23 campaign.
Duke has signed a top-three recruiting class per ESPN in every season since Scheyer joined the staff, including the No. 1 class five times in nine seasons (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022).

Duke Basketball - Catapult
Duke Basketball is one of the most popular college basketball programs in the United States. She uses Catapult technology to track her athletes' workload and support detailed injury recovery processes.
As Director of Sports Science at Duke Basketball, Nick Potter is responsible for a number of areas, including monitoring training load and helping athletes optimize injury recovery.
“Our approach to monitoring training load will change throughout the year depending on the context of the season,” says Potter. “We are lucky that we have an extended pre-season from early July to mid-October. During this time, we strategically build players' weekly workloads by balancing strength training, physical conditioning, functional movement training, basketball individual work, and team training. "
Once Duke enters the regular season, the team includes a number of additional metrics such as Acute: Chronic Ratio to make sure all players stay fit, recover when needed, and are optimally prepared for matchday work. Going beyond monitoring players' workload for their well-being and readiness, Potter and his team developed a method to evaluate the quality, quantity, and intensity of movement based on the team's success throughout each game.
“In addition to looking after the health and performance of the team as a whole, one of my specific roles here at Duke Basketball is to help injured guys rehab from those injuries and then get back in full physical shape so they can be ready to get back to the game. " Potter says. “When guys get injured, after we run tests to make sure there is no serious injury, we can start a full rehab and aggressive return to the game.”
Earlier this season Duke's defender Tre Jones suffered a shoulder injury against Syracuse. Potter worked closely with Jones, guiding him through the rehabilitation process, using Catapult technology to track his progress and return him to full fitness as quickly and safely as possible.
“Once we got him to run around the court and move around, we activated our Catapult system,” says Potter. “This is our accelerometer-based motion-tracking GPS that we use for all of our players in every practice, every game, every shootout, so we have a really good idea of the intensity and amount of movement that happens in every single practice. session."
By setting benchmarks for athletes and studying the stresses they are exposed to during training and games, it becomes easier to map the recovery process and objectively understand when an athlete is ready to return to the court.
"If we look at how much Tre has done compared to everyone else, you can see that he's on par with everyone else if you look at the average," says Potter. “We can look at his left and right sides, his forward jumps and slowdowns, so the two main things we want to see is the ratio of ground movement - jumping movement - is the same as everyone else. But also symmetry; it's seven movements to the left and eight to the right, so we can see that it moves symmetrically on one side compared to the other."
Mike Krzyzewski has led Duke to 12 Final Four and five NCAA Division I tournament appearances since 1980. He is one of the most successful college basketball coaches. Krzyzewski places great value on sports science and actively supports the work Potter does to help optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury among his athletes.
“Two years ago we reorganized our medical support staff and reorganized what we do on a year-round basis, and Nick really plays a key role in that,” Krzyzewski says. “He has different titles, but for me he is more of a sports scientist for our program. His prevention and recovery practices are amazing, but he also gives me daily reports on our workloads, how the guys are progressing, and I adjust my practice accordingly.”

From June 18 to June 23, Amsterdam hosts the main 3x3 basketball tournament of the year - the World Cup, in which 20 men's teams and 20 women's teams take part
3×3 basketball is a new Olympic discipline starting from Tokyo 2020. About how Russia can get to the Games in Japan - also in this text
The composition of the Russian men's team at the 2019 World Cup: Daniil Abramovsky, Alexander Antonikovsky, Alexander Zuev, Dmitry Cheburkin (all under 24 years old). Group opponents: June 18 - Mongolia and Ukraine, June 20 - Estonia and Puerto Rico
The composition of the Russian women's team at the 2019 World Cup: Anna Leshkovtseva, Anastasia Logunova, Alexandra Stolyar, Olga Frolkina. Group opponents: June 19 - Indonesia and Ukraine, June 21 - Italy and New Zealand
The top two teams (out of five) from each group advance to the playoffs. On June 22, quarter-finals will be held, on June 23 - semi-finals, matches for 3rd place and finals
The best achievement of the Russian men's team is 3rd place at the 2014 World Cup in Moscow. The current world champion is Serbia. The Russian women's team won the 2017 World Cup and came second twice more (2014, 2018). The current world champion is Italy
The World Cup is also called the World Championship, and in principle this is not a mistake. In football, there are also two names in parallel: "World Cup" is more common in the world, "World Cup" - in Russia. FIFA doesn't mind.
But 3×3 basketball is the only correct name for the sport. The word "streetball" can hide games with a different number of participants and according to different rules. But only 3×3 basketball is included in the Olympic program. His motto is now appropriate: "From the streets to the Olympics." Everything became too serious, and it was time to get rid of the "street" prefix. Moreover, you can play not only in the open air.
Still, the best of streetball remains in 3×3 basketball. These are great street views. Now many tournaments are held both in halls and even in shopping centers, but the top one is to play basketball against the backdrop of the Prague Castle or the Eiffel Tower.
In Amsterdam, a 3x3 basketball court will be installed in one of the iconic places - the Museumplein.
The main difference from "classic" basketball is that they play on one hoop. They took half of the standard court (in 5x5 basketball, the dimensions are 15x28 meters) and shortened it a little more to adjust for dynamism and the number of players.
Another feature: for hitting from close and medium distances in 3x3 basketball they give 1 point (instead of 2), for an accurate throw from behind an arc with a radius of 6.75 m - 2 points (instead of 3). And this is very important, because in the parquet version of basketball, a long-range shot is only one and a half times "more expensive" than usual, and in the street version - twice. In colloquial speech, long-range shots in 3x3 basketball are habitually called "threes", so don't let yourself be confused.
The ball in 3×3 basketball is also its own, special. First, ribbed. Secondly, it is slightly smaller, size 6 (in 5×5 this size is used only in women's tournaments - men play with "seven"), but at the same time the same weight as a "standard" men's basketball.
The surface of the site is also different. 3×3 basketball is played not on parquet, but on special mesh plastic. It is better suited for open air: it passes both liquid and street dust. Such a court does not have to be constantly wiped.
Only 4 players per team (3 players on court + 1 substitute). There are no official coaches in 3×3 basketball. That is, they are, but they sit only in the spectator stands and do not have the right to prompt during the game (technical foul for violation). So during the game, the team is on its own. Time-outs are taken only by players. Which combination to play is also up to them.
Yes, here's another question: if they play for one ring, how do they not get confused?
In 5x5 basketball, the transfer of possession from one team to another is easy to visualize: run to the left - run to the right. There is no such thing in 3 × 3, so they came up with a rule for taking the ball over the two-point line. If a team A player throws and misses, and a team B player takes the rebound, then he cannot attack immediately. First you need to get the ball past the two-point line. You can take him out yourself with a dribble, or you can pass to the partner standing behind the arc (then you don’t have to go out yourself). If you forget about it, it will turn out that you are attacking in your ring. The good news is that your opponents won't get points for this. Bad: you too, they will also take away the ball.
3×3 is much faster than regular basketball, and here teams play several matches a day (at the World Cup - no more than two, but in other tournaments there are 4). The attack here is given half as much - only 12 seconds, not 24. And the entire match lasts 10 minutes of pure time. You can finish it ahead of schedule - if one of the teams scores 21 points (it is considered a special chic to score 22 if you throw a two-pointer with a score of 20).
But if after 10 minutes there is a draw, overtime is played. Not counting time, just up to 2 points scored. They can be scored with two throws - or one long-range one. If 20:20 is played in regular time, then the game will not stop after 21 points in extra time.
There are no personal fouls in 3x3 basketball (technical and unsportsmanlike exceptions), but it is very important to keep an eye on team fouls. Until you have accumulated 7 fouls per team, only fouls on the throwing opponent will be penalized (1 penalty for a foul on a one-pointer, 2 for a two-pointer). If the opponent scored with a foul - both the ball will be counted, and an additional 1 penalty will be thrown to you.
But starting from the 7th team foul, the opponent will throw two free throws, even if you broke the rules 10 meters from the ring. And this is very dangerous: on the scale of 3x3 basketball, even two points is a lot. Your affairs are very bad if you have scored 10 or more team fouls: then after the free throws, the opponent will also retain the right to attack.
You cannot qualify for the Tokyo Games directly from the World Cup, but you can earn important ranking points that are given for participating in all tournaments (both in national teams and with club teams).
From 18 to 21 June — group tournament. There are 5 teams in each group, respectively, all of them have 4 matches at this stage. The schedule is drawn up in such a way that the two Russian teams do not overlap on days: men play on Tuesday and Thursday, women play on Wednesday and Friday. Playoffs on Saturday and Sunday.
Selection for the 2020 Olympics
Finally, the most important thing: the Olympic selection. Basketball 3×3 is a new discipline, and only 8 teams each for men and women will play at the first Olympics. Of course, this is very little. But Russia has good chances. We explain.
You can get to Tokyo through qualification, but there is a very big competition: 20 teams for 3 places. There is one more "small" qualification - for countries that were not represented at the last two Olympiads by either men's or women's teams in 5x5 basketball. The Russian national teams missed Rio 2016, but were in London 2012, so this selection is not for us.
The most reliable selection method in Tokyo is through the national ranking. Here, the system is approximately the same as in tennis: for each tournament, the player receives points. The higher the level of the tournament, the more points. The 9 best tournaments of the year are summed up in the player's personal rating, and the points of the top 100 players in the country are summed up in the national rating. The more massive 3x3 basketball is in the country (it is best with this in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and now in Russia too) - the better for the country's rating.
It is according to this national rating that on November 1 this year, three men's and three women's teams will be selected for the Olympics (but no more than two from the continent). If the selection was carried out according to today's rating, then Russia would get into Tokyo with a margin.
