The student basketball club of the Forestry Engineering University is considered to be one of the strongest in St. Petersburg.
Women's team from season 1990 years and up to the present time, it has always been among the leading teams in the city championships in basketball and streetball.
Since 2015, LUT basketball players have been participating in the prestigious student tournament - the ASB Belov League - and according to its results, year after year, they are among the eight strongest teams in Russia.
In 2017, the women's national team of Russia, whose main team consisted of basketball players from the Forestry Technical University, won bronze medals at the Maccabi World Games.
Basketball Club SPbGLTU is a member of the Russian Student Basketball League (SBL) since 1998 and a member of the Russian Student Basketball Association (ASB) from 2007 to the present.
In 2001, 2002 and 2003 the university's men's and women's teams became champions of the All-Russian Student Sports Festival.
LUT basketball players are frequent participants of All-Star Games, as well as ASB training camps, where they are called directly by the coaching staff of the Russian student team.
Since 1994, the men's national team has been the permanent champion of St. Petersburg in basketball among students for many years, and from 2006 to 2012. always won the competition.
Participating in the Russian Championship SBL in the period 1998-2004, the men's team became a three-time silver and bronze medalist of these competitions. In 2000, 2005 and 2006 men's team and 2003-2005 the women's team became champions of Russia, and all students participating in these competitions were awarded the sports title "Master of Sports of Russia".
At the 2003 World Student Games in South Korea, 2007 in Thailand and 2009 in Belgrade, Russian student basketball teams performed with great success. Women won in 2003 and in 2007. bronze and in 2009 - silver. Men became silver medalists of the Universiade.
A significant contribution to the successful performance of Russian athletes in those years was made by the current graduates of the university: Honored Master of Sports Padius Nikolai and masters of sports of international class - Igor Zamansky, Tatiana Malevanaya, Yulia Mironova, Svetlana Makhlina, Ksenia Lapteva and Anastasia Lobanova.
As of today, the basketball teams of the Forestry Technical University still maintain their leading positions both in the Championship of Universities and in the Championship of St. Petersburg.
