Top 10: Worst Oregon Ducks Uniform Combinations of All Time

0 of 11

The Oregon Ducks football program is known for their jaw-dropping "style" when it comes to outfitting their players.

With more than 500 uniform combinations, the brains at Nike are bound to make a mistake in there somewhere.

We're going to focus on those mistakes.

If you're a die-hard Ducks fan, you'll love your team no matter what they wear.

The threads in this list simply make it harder to stick up for your team at the local bar.

All the uniforms on this list either made you puke or looked like puke on television.

These are the ugliest uniform combinations the Ducks have ever worn—and most of them have come in the past 10 years.

Honorable Mention

1 of 11

Before we get into the top-10 worst Oregon Ducks uniform combinations, I wanted to start off with a jersey combination that didn't quite make the list.

While it did make me throw up in my throat a little bit, it wasn't quite bad enough to be top-10 worthy.

It is unfair to make Haloti Ngata squeeze himself into this green and yellow combination. Do those yellow pants look good on anyone?

What do you think the Baltimore Ravens fans would say if they could see their two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman dressed up like this?

Now it's time for the top 10. Get your barf buckets ready. It's not going to be pretty.

10: 2009 Civil War

2 of 11

When Oregon played Oregon State in the 2009 Civil War game, fans had to look at these monstrosities.

Throwbacks are cool (see: 2009 California at Oregon game), but adding a new logo to a throwback combination? Not cool.

Put a white lid on these players and this combination doesn't make the list. As it is, it receives one puke point while coming in at No. 10.

9: UCLA at Oregon 2010

3 of 11

ESPN 3D was in the house.

There was a lot of pressure on the Oregon Ducks fashion staff to come up with something impressive and eye-popping.

    But this?

The four quarters must have seemed more like some form of cruel torture for the national television audience.

Oregon rolled the Bruins from start to finish in this 60-13 blowout, but they could have at least looked good doing it.

8: Road Jerseys for 1995-96 Season

4 of 11

We have to include all the road jerseys worn for the 1995-96 season.

Often, people make it seem like it is only the Ducks' new jerseys that are worthy of disgust. That simply isn't true.

These road warriors were visually offensive and vomit-inducing.

The real question is this: If Oregon were to suit up with these in 2011, would they receive more or less laughter than they will wearing the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms?

I think these oldies would win the laughter battle every time.

7: Home Jerseys for 2001-02 Season

5 of 11

His name was Captain Comeback. Joey Harrington's legacy will forever live at Autzen Stadium.

The uniforms that the 2000-01 Ducks wore, however, have died like a quarterback making his first start in a night game at Autzen.

The team played well, so the jerseys aren't often refuted.

But can you imagine having to watch a .500 team in these threads?

The white road version was much better.

Fortunately, Colorado chose to wear their dark uniforms in the Fiesta Bowl.

6: BCS National Championship

6 of 11

Someone at Nike got their highlighter out for the BCS National Championship game.

Oregon wore their carbon-fiber helmets, white tops and green pants for "The Natty," but it was the socks that got all the attention.

These jerseys may not have made the list if it weren't for these socks—but they're that bad.

Who knew that socks could ruin an outfit? Apparently not Nike.

At least the whole world wasn't watching this game or anything. No worries.

5: Home Jerseys for 1998-99

7 of 11

Again, why do we pick on the new uniforms so much? The home jerseys worn for the 1998-99 season were horrific.

Oregon now uses the terms "Thunder Green" and "Lightning Yellow" to describe their colors.

If you were going to give a name to these colors, it'd be "Pee Yellow" and "Vomit Green."

Were jersey sales down in 1998? If so, I think I know why.

Oregon did beat the Huskies in 1998. I guess things could be worse. The Ducks could have purple as their primary color.

4: UCLA at Oregon 2006

8 of 11

Oregon pulled out the all yellow uniforms and green lids for their October 14th game against the UCLA Bruins in 2006. They shouldn't have.

They won the game, but the players would have been better off wearing sweats or Under Armor.

What is good about these uniforms?

If this was any other team, this would have been the worst uniforms they had ever worn. For the Ducks, it's only the fourth worst.

3: Boise State at Oregon 2007

9 of 11

These eyesores were rolled out for the Ducks game against the Boise State Broncos at Autzen Stadium in 2007.

If you recall, the game didn't exactly go like the Ducks wanted.

True-freshman Darron Thomas almost rallied the team after Jeremiah Masoli was knocked out of the game in the first quarter.

Before the game, most people thought the Ducks would win—no one gave the uniforms that much of a chance, though.

It was pretty clear from the start that these yellow-based aversions weren't up to par.

2: Oregon at Arizona State 2006

10 of 11

Let's be honest. It's a good thing this game wasn't on television.

When the Oregon Ducks traveled to the desert to face the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2006, they looked more like a baby shower than a football team.

There's nothing tough or intimidating about a group of football players wearing what Crayola would call "canary-yellow" pants.

I understand that the people in charge of the Ducks' fashion take more risks when the games aren't on television, but how could they look at this combination and think it looked remotely appealing?

Maybe it's just one big joke.

1: BYU vs Oregon 2006 Las Vegas Bowl

11 of 11

    The final score didn't help.

When the Oregon Ducks got blown out by the BYU Cougars 38-8 in the 2006 Las Vegas Bowl, it looked bad in more ways than one.

Before the game even started, Ducks fans had to listen to the announcers rip apart the ensemble that the boys from Eugene showed up in.

Though they looked like fools, the Ducks exploded out of the tunnel before kickoff. It didn't take long to realize they weren't ready to play.

Maybe if they had worn real football uniforms, and not biker helmets, things would have been different.

Regardless, these go down as the worst uniforms the Oregon Ducks have ever worn. I would call them the worst uniforms ever to be worn by a football team, but did you see those Seattle Seahawks jerseys a couple years ago? Wow.

Maybe it could get worse, Ducks fans.

Ranking the Oregon uniform combinations so far this season

In the 21st century, the Ducks have become known as the school with the best uniforms in all of college football. The Ducks unveiled their new uniforms for the 2019 season in August in front of their fans and instantly were a hit.

The 2019 "Nike Vapor Fusion" uniform resembled the "Oregon Football 2.0" uniforms the Ducks wore in 2018 but have a few minor differences. The numbers feature perforated numbering, with an Oregon "O" moved to the right breastplate instead of a "Ducks" graphic in the 2018 uniforms. The number backplate also doesn't feature a backing with the names directly on the back of the uniforms. Additionally, unlike 2018, the Ducks have not stuck to the monochromatic color scheme of 2018, mixing and matching the different elements of the uniforms.

As the Ducks enter the bye week sitting 8-1 on the season and No. 7 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll, we thought it would be a good time to look back and rank the nine different uniform combinations the Ducks have worn so far this season. Through nine games, the Ducks have yet to repeat a uniform combination and with three regular-season games remaining plus a Pac-12 Championship game in early December will have four more uniforms before a bowl game.

Here's the ranking of the nine uniforms that the Ducks have worn so far in 2019:

I know there's gonna be some questions as to why one of the most basic of combinations the Ducks have worn this season is at the bottom but that's exactly why it's there. During the 2018 season, the Ducks wore monochrome uniform combinations all year until the Redbox Bowl when they mixed it up with a green jersey and yellow pants and helmet.

This uniform combination looked good in person but didn't show as well on television in my opinion, where most of the fans are watching the game. It's a solid baseline uniform but as the Ducks have started to mix things up, it's just the start.

Oregon's first conference game opened with the Ducks wearing their apple green pants and helmet with white jerseys with the same apple green numbers. It almost feels like an injustice to these uniforms to place them down here but like the green and yellow monochrome home uniforms, it's a solid baseline. Simply put, the other uniforms the Ducks have worn through nine games of the season have looked better.

As to be expected based off of my last choice, the all-green uniforms from this year's Nevada game fall ahead of the all-yellow uniforms. The green seems to just pop a little bit more on the field and on television than the all-yellow combination and that's why it's two spots ahead.

With two home games remaining, it'll be interesting to see if the Ducks break out the green uniform top again this season since they've only worn it once so far this season. Could they use it for the Civil War against Oregon State with a similar combination to the Redbox Bowl?

(Photo: Gary Breedlove, 247Sports)

Talk about a great night game uniforms that isn't just black or a dark color. Oregon wore the yellow uniforms with the nightmare green helmet at home for their final non-conference game against Montana and it was the first chance for the fans to see the new nightmare green color in Autzen.

The dark green helmet did a great job breaking up the all yellow uniform and was the first glimpse that the Ducks would be doing a mix and match uniform scheme at home this year. The effect of the dark helmet under the lights really worked on television, even if it was just on the Pac-12 Network.

Oregon unveiled the nightmare green this summer and it was instantly a hit with the fans. It's not black but a bit darker than forest green, a color the Ducks had worn for years. Oregon only had the apple green in their uniforms for the past few years so it was a nice addition to the uniform collection.

The all nightmare green with yellow accents looked great, not only in person but on television too. If the Ducks stick with this uniform color palate for another season or two, I hope that this is one that is kept for big night games.

The result wasn't what Oregon fans wanted but these uniforms made a statement in the biggest game of the opening weekend for the college football season. The Nightmare green helmets and pants, paired with a white uniform with a nightmare green iridescent number, reminiscent of the uniforms the Ducks wore in the 2012 Rose Bowl against Wisconsin when they unleashed the chrome helmets with the wings on the college football world. Since then, chrome and metallic helmets have become the standard.

This uniform felt like a statement to the rest of college football that the Ducks were back in the conversation

Big games call for big uniforms.  In the early part of the decade, the Ducks would break out the all-whites for the big games such as USC in 2012 and when Oregon traveled to Washington in October, it was time to break out the white uniforms with the chrome helmets.

It's the same uniform top as the Auburn game but paired with the white pants and chrome lid, it gave a chilling effect on a cold and rainy day in Seattle where the Ducks iced the Huskies chances of winning the Pac-12 North division title.

(Photo: © Troy Wayrynen, USA TODAY Sports)

The Ducks broke out their nightmare green uniforms in early October against the Cal Bears but instead of going with the all nightmare green combination, they paired the jersey with yellow pants and helmets for one of the better and more unique Oregon uniforms combinations in recent memory. It was a gritty game where the Ducks took zero points to the half at home for the first time since 2004 but Oregon was able to pull it out and looked good while doing so.

In my opinion, it was the best uses of the yellow helmet the Ducks have used, that is until...

(Photo: © Jayne Kamin-Oncea, USA TODAY Sports)

I'm not sure if it was planned this way but Oregon's uniforms for this past weekend's game against USC were very similar to the ones the Ducks wore in the 1994 season with the famous "Gang Green Defense". The Ducks yellow pants and helmets were paired with the white uniforms that have apple green numbers for an unmistakably Oregon uniform.

It's probably no coincidence that the Ducks defense looked like the famous defense of 1994 with Brady Breeze, the nephew of a member of that 1994 defense Chad Cota, making one of the games biggest plays, a pick-six interception.

One question I've seen asked on twitter, How many uniform combinations do the Ducks have right now?

With just counting the jerseys, helmets, and pants and excluding cleats they have:

Four helmets: Apple green, Chrome, Nightmare green, Yellow

Five Jerseys: Apple green, Nightmare green, White with apple green numbers, White with nightmare numbers, Yellow

Four pants:  Apple green, Nightmare green, White, Yellow

That would give the Ducks a total of 80 different uniform combinations using those thirteen different pieces of uniform equipment.

An argument could be made that the Ducks wouldn't wear the white nightmare green jersey with apple green helmet and pants or that the Ducks might not wear apple green jerseys with nightmare green pants, which would limit the possible number of combinations to around 52 possible uniform combinations.

    • 1 point - counts for the penalty throw
    • 2 points - for a ball abandoned from the zone of biases
    • 3 points - for the ball abandoned from the three -point hits

violations in the basketball, let's take basic.

A run is the movement of a player with the ball in his hands without dribbling. For this, the referee appoints a throw-in by the opposing team.

Three Second Rule - A player of the attacking team cannot stay in the highlighted area under the hoop for more than three seconds. For such a violation, the ball is transferred to the opponent.

Foul is a touch on the opponent that limits his freedom of movement. In some cases, a free throw is awarded for a foul - this is decided by the referee. A throw from the penalty line is performed by a member of the opposing team, for a professional this is an almost guaranteed hit.

You can also get a foul without contact - technical. It is given for unsportsmanlike behavior, disrespect for the referee or other participants in the game. Two technical fouls are followed by disqualification.

Basketball matches are served by teams of referees. Usually 2-3 referees on the site and a secretary judge. Their task is to monitor compliance with the rules, keep track of time and impose a fine in case of violations.

Entering data into the protocol, resolving controversial game moments and keeping the game score - these duties are also performed by the referees.

During the match, the referees communicate with each other with gestures that help to quickly indicate the situation in the game.

To shoot 3-pointers in every game, you need quality equipment that will make you feel comfortable on the court. Look for clothes, shoes and accessories for basketball in a special section on the Sportmaster website.

The history of the emergence and development of basketball

In 1891, in the United States of America, a young teacher, a native of Canada, Dr. James Naismith, trying to "revive" gymnastics lessons, attached two fruit baskets to the railing of the balcony and suggested throwing soccer balls into it. The resulting game only remotely resembled modern basketball. There was no question of any management, the players threw the ball to each other and then tried to throw it into the basket. The team that scored the most goals won.

A year later, Naismith developed the first rules of basketball. The very first matches under these rules caused their first changes.

Gradually, basketball from the United States penetrated first to the East - Japan, China, the Philippines, and then to Europe and South America. After 10 years at the Olympic Games in St. Louis, the Americans organized a demonstration tour between the teams of several cities. The Basketball Association of America (BAA) was formed in 1946. The first match under her auspices took place on November 1 of the same year in Toronto between the Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers. At 19In 1949, the association merged with the US National Basketball League to form the National Basketball Association (NBA). In 1967, the American Basketball Association was created, which for a long time tried to compete with the NBA, but merged with it 9 years later. Today, the NBA is one of the most influential and well-known professional basketball leagues in the world.

The International Amateur Basketball Federation was founded in 1932. The federation includes 8 countries: Argentina, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Romania. Sweden, Czechoslovakia. Based on the name, it was assumed that the organization would only lead amateur basketball, however, at 1989, professional basketball players received admission to international competitions, and the word "amateur" was removed from the name.

The very first international match took place in 1904, and in 1936 basketball entered the program of the Summer Olympic Games.

    Basketball rules (briefly)

The rules of the game of basketball changed several times until 2004, when the final version of the rules took shape, which is considered relevant to this day.

    1. Basketball is played by two teams. Usually a team consists of 12 people, 5 of which are field players, and the rest are considered substitutes.
    2. Basketball dribbling . Athletes in possession of the ball must move around the field, hitting the floor with it. Otherwise, "carrying the ball" will be counted, and this is a violation of the rules in basketball. Accidentally touching the ball with a body part other than the hand is not considered a foul, unlike purposeful play with the foot or fist.
    3. A basketball game consists of 4 periods or halves, but the time of each half (play time) varies depending on the basketball association. So, for example, in NBA a match consists of 4 halves of 12 minutes each, and in FIBA each such half lasts 10 minutes.
    4. Short breaks are provided between periods, and between the second and third periods, the break time is increased.
    5. The ball thrown into the basket can bring a different number of points to its team. If the ball is scored during the free throw, the team earns 1 point. If the ball is thrown from an average or close distance (closer than the 3-point line), then the team is given 2 points. A team earns three points if the ball is scored from behind the three-point line.
    6. If in regular time both teams scored the same number of points, then a 5-minute overtime is assigned, if it ended in a draw, then the next one is assigned and so on until the winner is determined.
    7. 3 Second Rule - A rule that prohibits any player from the attacking team from being in the free throw area for more than three seconds.
    8. Basketball Two Step Rule . The player is only allowed to take two steps with the ball, after which he must either shoot or pass.

    Basketball field

The playing field for basketball has a rectangular shape and a hard surface. The surface of the site must not have any bends, cracks or any other deformations. The size of the basketball court must be 28 meters long and 15 meters wide (standard). The height of the ceiling must be at least 7 meters, and on professional sites, ceilings are raised to a height of 12 meters and above. The lighting on the field must be designed so as not to interfere with the movement of the players and must evenly cover the entire court.

Until the end of the 60s, tournaments could be organized outdoors. However, now basketball games are played only in closed areas.

    Site marking

    1. limit lines. Pass along the entire perimeter of the site (2 short front lines and 2 long side lines).
    2. Central line. It is drawn from one side line to another and at the same time it is parallel to the front lines.
    3. The central zone is a circle (radius 1.80 m) and is located exactly in the center of the basketball field.
    4. Three-point lines are semi-circles with a radius of 6.75 m, drawn to the intersection with parallel (front) lines.
    5. Free throw lines. The free-throw line is drawn 3.60 m long parallel to each end line so that its far edge is located at a distance of 5.80 meters from the inside edge of the end line, and its middle is on an imaginary line connecting the midpoints of both end lines.

    Basketball

The basketball is spherical, painted an approved shade of orange, and has a pattern of eight inlays and black stitching.

Basketball size Circumference, mm Weight, g
    Size 7 750-780 567-650
    Size 6 720-740 500-540
    Size 5 690-710 470-500
    Size 3 560-580 300-330

    Basketball hoop and backboard dimensions

The height of the basketball hoop from the floor level is 3. 05 meters (standard). The diameter of the basketball hoop ranges from 45 cm to 45.7 cm. The ring itself must be painted bright orange. A special net with a length of 40-45 cm is attached to the ring. The basketball hoop is located at a distance of 15 cm from the backboard.

The shield to which the ring is attached also has a number of important parameters. Basketball backboard size: width - 1.8 m, height - 1.05 m. Modern basketball backboards are made of tempered glass.

    Refereeing in basketball

At the basketball game there are:

    • senior judge and judge;
    • timekeeper;
    • secretary;
    • assistant secretary;
    • operator 30 seconds.

    Judge uniform:

    • gray shirt;
    • long black trousers;
    • black basketball shoes.
