Scottie Pippen Rookie Card Values
The first thing that's usually on collectors' minds is: how much are Scottie Pippen rookie cards worth?
The value of a Scottie Pippen rookie card will vary between $1 and $1500 depending on which version you are considering and what its condition is.![]()
Like many cards of this era, Pippen rookie card prices have exploded due to the popularity of ESPN's documentary "The Last Dance" that followed Michael Jordan's career and particularly the 1997-1998 season.
Below are some estimated prices of each of his early cards in a range of conditions from near-mint/mint (PSA 8) all the way to gem mint (PSA 10) as determined by third party grading company Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA).
Keep in mind that when you are talking PSA 10, the card is basically flawless with fantastic centering and no damage to the corners, edges or surfaces.

The 1988 Fleer #20 Scottie Pippen Rookie Card
Distinction: This is Pippen's only recognized mainstream rookie card and it's the key rookie card in the 1988 Fleer set that features rookies of other stars of the day in John Stockton, Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant and Mark Price.
However, it's not the most valuable as both the base and All-Star cards of teammate Michael Jordan still command the highest prices.
Regardless, the Pippen rookie card is one of the most iconic basketball cards of the 80s.
Pippen also appeared on some early oddball issues that I'll go over later but this is typically his one "true" rookie card that collectors are after.
Number: This is card #20 out of 132 total cards in the set.
Design: The design of the 1988 Fleer set is instantly recognizable with with its great photography and multi-color borders with a bit of blend to them around the outer edges.
A fantastic image of Pippen dominates the center giving the card great eye appeal overall.
Pippen's name (spelled correctly) sits in the upper-left in a unique font alongside the Fleer logo to the right while the Bulls team name and his position hold down the bottom of the card.
Reverse Side: The reverse side contains a glaring error: his last name is spelled "Pippin" across the top.
It's always been funny to me how they got it right on the front and botched it on the back.
Since the error was not corrected, all of his cards feature this mistake so the error doesn't offer any added value to the card like some corrected errors can.
The vertical layout with the multi-colored stat box are very much telling of a Fleer design of the 80s.
Condition Issues: Chipping and wear along the darker areas of the border are common but what typically prevents higher grades is poor centering.
Other Early Pippen Cards
As I mentioned previously, Pippen appeared on several other cards in 1987 and 1988 and while these oddball issues may not be considered "true" rookie cards, it's still important to go over them.
1987 Entenmann's
Produced by Entenmann's, a bakery out of Brooklyn, NY, this 2-5/8" x 4" card was part of an 11-card team set that were given out to Bulls fans during home games.
The card features Pippen at the rim against Rolando Blackman and Sam Perkins of the Dallas Mavericks while Michael Jordan looks up in the background.
This marked the first time Pippen was ever featured in a basketball card set.
1988 Entenmann's
Pippen made another appearance on an Entenmann's card the following year, this time throwing down a monster dunk while Jordan admires below in the background.
These are still desirable but not quite as valuable as the 1987 Entemann's card.
1988 Kenner Starting Lineup #60
For years, Kenner Starting Lineups were among the hottest sports collectibles and it all started in 1988 with their line of baseball, basketball, and football figures.
Included with the packaging were sports cards like this one on which Pippen is seen bringing the ball up the court.
1988 Panini Spanish Sticker #77
Panini released a line of 292 sticker cards that year as well that included many big names of the era like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone and many others.
Some players like Jordan, Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, and Dennis Rodman appeared on multiple cards but this is the only card in the set featuring Pippen.
Scottie Pippen’s Legacy
Scottie Pippen is widely considered to be one of the greatest small forwards who ever stepped on the court and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010 for his efforts.
He's most often remembered for the years he spent alongside Michael Jordan as they dominated the league in the 1990s.
Over his impressive career he would achieve the following:

- 10x All Defensive Team
- 2x Olympic Gold Medalist

Most Valuable Scottie Pippen Cards (1988-1998)

Scottie Pippen’s 17-year Hall of Fame NBA career included 6 NBA titles and he will go down in the record books as a player who had a complete game.
Many collectors pursue valuable Scottie Pippen cards, due in part to his storied career alongside Michael Jordan.
He was drafted #5 overall by the Seattle Supersonics but was traded to the Bulls. Other notables in the draft included David Robinson and Reggie Miller.
Pippen’s career extended into the 90s basketball card glory days, as you will see many of his most valuable cards are from the mid 90s, when rare parallels and inserts permeated the sports card hobby.

1988 Fleer #20 Scottie Pippen Rookie
PSA Pop Report
On 3/13/2022 a PSA 10 sold for $2,640.00. Scottie Pippen’s rookie year came during a time when no real inserts or parallels existed in the hobby. While he does have some alternative, less popular off-brand rookie cards (such as the 1987 Bulls Entenmann’s #33), this is his flagship.
This card has a PSA 10 population of 241, which is not a lot considering how many cards were printed from this set.
The low pop count really attests to the frequent off-center printing and cutting of the cards straight from the manufacturers.
1997 Skybox Precious Metal Gems #83 Scottie Pippen

On 2/20/2019 a PSA 6 sold for $22,300.00. The Precious Metal Gems are by far the most sought-after insert set from the 90s. However, considering there are only 90 red parallels versions and 10 emerald versions, it nearly impossible to come by.
One of the most valuable Michael Jordan card is this same version from the same set. In fact, it’s one of the highest selling basketball cards of all time, and would probably set the record if the highest graded emerald parallel ever came to auction.
Also of note with these Metal Universe inserts is their condition. Most will never grade mint, and that’s because they are very susceptible to chipping straight out of the pack. Don’t let a PSA 6 grade fool you. It’s not about the condition with these cards.
It’s about the design and rarity.
There are no PSA 10s in existence, and there’s only one 9. It’s a red parallel.
1997 Skybox Premium Star Rubies #242 Scottie Pippen

On 6/21/21 a PSA 8 sold for $3,345.00. The Star Rubies parallels differ in a few ways from the base version. For one, the background is a higher gloss finish with a slightly different shine to them as they hit the light. But the name is derived from the ruby red Skybox Premium logo in the top right corner.
There are two Star Rubies per player from the 1997 Skybox premium set – #48 and #242 – the lower number from series 1 and the higher from series 2.
Only 6 between the two have ever been graded by PSA and there are no 10s. While these pop reports seem incredibly low, it makes sense given each are serial numbered to just 50, and some of them could be graded by Beckett. There’s always the chance of collectors never grading them, or for some to still be sealed in boxes.
1997 Skybox E-X2001 Jambalaya #14 Scottie Pippen

On 8/9/21 a PSA 10 sold for $14,556.00. The 1997 E-X2001 Jambalaya is a unique and rare insert card and will easily be among the most valuable card for Scottie Pippen as long as the hobby is around.
The distinct oval die-cut along with the shiny surface and unique gold foil stamping is borderline busy, but somehow it works.
The designs were so popular, in fact, Fleer utilized the design in some Marvel Retro print runs. Imagine having a Spider Man Jambalaya to go alongside a nice Scottie Pippen from the original design. Once can dream.
This card has a PSA 10 population of just 2, so the sale during the middle of 2021 is a good indicator of peak value.
1997 Fleer Ultra Ultra Stars Gold #15 Scottie Pippen

On 10/26/21 a PSA 8 sold for $3,383.00. The 1997 Fleer Ultra Stars is incredibly rare. There is some speculation as to how many were actually printed, but its clear based on the pop reports these were part of a very limited print run.
If that’s true of the base insert, the gold parallel is even more rare. In fact, it has a PSA 10 population of just 2.
One interesting aspect of these cards, which is difficult to tell from pictures, is the slight raising of the surface where the star forms take shape.
1997 NBA Hoops High Voltage 500 Volts #17 Scottie Pippen

On 1/28/2022 a PSA 8 sold for $1,275.00. The NBA Hoops High Voltage inserts came in a base version, and a parallel 500 volts version which was serial numbered to 500.
Also included in this insert set is Michael Jordan, and a rookie Tim Duncan.
NBA Hoops brought back the High Voltage inserts in recent years, but the original hypnotic design remains one of the most distinct designs in the history of the hobby.
There are no PSA 10s in the pop report, mainly because they grade tough with edges being very easily chipped, although not enough to take away from too much eye appeal.
1998 Skybox Thunder Noyz Boyz #12 Scottie Pippen

On 3/5/2021 a PSA 10 sold for $2,550.
00. The Noyz Boys inserts contained in the 1998 Skybox Thunder were inserted into 1 in just 300 hobby box packs. As you can imagine, they are very sought after by higher end collectors.
There are a total of 15 players included in this insert set, including Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Because of the amount of top tie hall of famers, its one of those insert sets many collectors dream of completing.
This premium die-cut insert has a PSA 10 population of just 6, but since die-cuts can be notoriously tough to grade, having a near mint copy is still going to be an amazing card to have in your collection.
1996 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection #Row 2 Scottie Pippen

On 12/12/2020 a PSA 9 sold for $585.00. The Flair Showcase Legacy Collection is among the most revered in the hobby. The dual portrait and action shot design was seen throughout the Flair Showcase cards, so the only real differential in these is the blue, glossy text indicating a parallel.
The Legacy Collection included 3 different cards (Row 0, 1, and 2) for each player in the set.
While the sale listed above may not seem like much, its important to note it was for a PSA 9 and not too recent of a sale.
This card has a PSA 10 population of just 1 (of Row 0). I’d estimate a card like that to sell for north of $2,500.
1997 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection #16 Scottie Pippen

On 11/12/2021 a PSA 8 sold for $1,525.00. Flair Showcase also released Legacy collection cards the following year in 1997. These cards are just as rare as the previous year, with each of the 3 rows in the collection being serial numbered to 150.
It’s also interesting to note these are among the first serial numbered NBA basketball cards ever made.
1992 Topps Stadium Club Beam Team #5 Scottie Pippen

On 2/13/2022 a PSA 10 sold for $568.00. Scottie Pippen joined Michael Jordan, a rookie Shaquille O’Neal, and a cast of other Hall of Fame players in the iconic Topps Stadium Club Beam Team insert set.
The design included some flashy, foil overlay which had a laser-like design. They were inserted into roughly 1 in 18 packs of the series 2 Stadium Club hobby boxes.
Special “Member’s Only” boxes also included the entire Beam Team set.
This card has a PSA 10 population of 72. Given the tendency for chipping and off center placement of the foil, the PSA 10 pop report will likely never reach triple digits.
1996 Skybox Z-Force Big Men On The Court Z-Peat #9 Scottie Pippen

On 2/1/2021 a PSA 8 sold for $202.49. The Big Men on court insert die-cut series came in a base version and a Z-Peat parallel, which only differs with the Z-Peat stamp on the front of the card.
This card has a PSA 10 population of just one, not only because of the rare occurrence of them in 1996 Skybox Z-Force Series 1 packs at a rate of 1 per 240, but also because die-cut inserts with very unique edges such as this one are very difficult to be saved in mint condition.
Other notable players in this insert set include Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and David Robinson.
1996 Flair Showcase Hot Shots #9 Scottie Pippen

On 2/19/2021 a PSA 9 sold for $333.00. Yet another very distinct die-cut insert in the list. These cards could be found in 1 per 90 packs in the 1996 Flair Showcase basketball card hobby boxes, making them a tough find but not quite as rare as some others in the list.
Given the historic rookie collection in 1996 with Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, and Allen Iverson along with amazing inserts like this, Flair Showcase would be a dream hobby box to open.
There are 19 other players alongside Pippen in this insert set, including Michael Jordan, Jason Kidd, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon and Karl Malone.
This card has a PSA 10 population of just 2.
Conclusion
Scottie Pippen’s career will be forever remembered for winning 6 NBA Championships alongside Michael Jordan and how well-rounded his game was on both ends of the floor.
He is certainly one of the best small forwards to ever play the game, and this list of valuable Scottie Pippen cards would be a dream collection for basketball card hobbyists.

Scottie Pippen was not only the best co-star in basketball history and Batman's Robin, but a full blown super popular figure who also needed in the most technologically advanced basketball shoes. Let's take a look at the top 8 models in which Scotty was enchanting on the court, let's go!
8. Nike Air Flight '89
Air Flight '89were released in 1989, which is obvious, and Scotty became one of the ambassadors of this pair, so to speak. More than once during his career, Pippen took to the court in Air Flight '89, and the sneakers themselves are still periodically reissued.
The design of the Nike Air Flight '89, by the way, is a bit reminiscent of the Air Jordan 4.
7. Nike Air Pippen
Pippen received his first signature model in 1996. The shoe had a full-length Air Max tank, but Scotty's personal pairs were with a modified Zoom Air cushion at his initiative.
6. Nike Air Max Uptempo
The Air Max Uptempo was the forerunner of the Air More Uptempo and the first basketball shoe to feature a visible Air Max tank. Pippen wore them to the 1996 NBA All-Star Game.
5. Nike Air Pippen 2
Pippen's second signature piece was designed by Aaron Cooper and features Scotty's favorite Zoom Air. The design was in keeping with the era, featuring a bulky shape and undulating construction.
4. Nike Air Maestro
Pippen wore the Air Maestro in the early 90s alongside other pairs of his air rotation.
The sneaker was designed by Tracey Teague and redesigned by Ronnie Feig in 2017.
3. Nike Air Swift
Pippen wore the Nike Air Swift during the 93/94 season and famously wrote "4PEAT" on his sneakers during the playoffs when Chicago was looking to win a fourth straight NBA title. NBA legend Scotty Pippen is cheating on his sanity, but not on himself.

When Scottie Pippen said about Michael Jordan that he was releasing the documentary The Last Dance to prove that he was a greater personality and athlete than LeBron James, Pippen didn't play it safe. Moreover, he did not discover America.
It became clear right away that Michael was going to use the absence of an up-to-date basketball agenda during the pandemic to his advantage. In the absence of NBA regular season games, ESPN wrote previews and reviews for each episode, and the series became the most popular sports documentary series in the history of Netflix.
Michael did not adjust anything, did not neglect anyone, he just did everything as usual: he went to the most convenient position at the right moment and made a throw that hit right on target.
What prevented the same Scottie Pippen from creating his own series? History was silent until recently. Until, recollecting himself, Scotty decided not to write the book "Unguarded" ("Unguarded"), in which he presented his vision of the Chicago Bulls dynasty, its victories and Jordan's role in achieving them.

Pippen's run through radio stations, YouTube channels, magazine editorial offices and websites, which has become an advertising campaign for the book, is accompanied by Scotty's statements, the public reaction to which ranges from "uh , Scotty…” to “grandfather forgot to take his pills again.”
Six-time champion says he's just as great as Jordan, accuses Michael of being arrogant and disrespectful of his Bulls teammates despite what they've done for his brand.

The saddest thing about this situation is that Pippen is not saying anything new, but is only carefully exaggerating what Jordan said about himself and relationships within the team in The Last Dance. Scotty does not offer readers a unique perspective on what was happening, does not oppose his own logic to that of Jordan, but only repeats what has already been said many times, flavoring the material that is not the first freshness with caustic remarks, the deliberateness of which only indicates a desire to sell the book.
Such behavior is devaluing, especially when you remember that this has happened to Scotty more than once. During a period in which Pippen was in the midst of a painful and costly divorce, he suddenly emerged with the admission that he considered LeBron a more outstanding player than Jordan.
When Scotty launched his brand of bourbon, on all the shows, sitting in front of a bottle with an alcoholic drink, he broadcast that Michael asserted himself at the expense of the players, coaching staff and management, while at the same time assigning himself all the titles and merits.
And now Pippen has once again resorted to the help of the name Michael, which sells everything associated with him. To some extent, this is normal, another thing is that Pippen's method looks cheap and unsophisticated even to the naked eye, to say nothing of people who know both.
Charles Barkley played against Jordan and Pippen while they were with the Bulls, went to the Olympics with both of them with the Dream Team, and also managed to cross paths with Scotty on one of the worst super teams in NBA history, the Houston Rockets "-1999.
"A lot of what Michael said in the movie was true, but he didn't mean to hurt Scotty or any of his teammates," Barkley noted. - Basically, I understand Scotty, and if he wants to come to the show and express his opinion, I see nothing wrong with that.
It just confuses me that he always brings up questions about Michael when he needs to sell something. At the moment, a book. I don't think he really holds a grudge against Michael or cares about their further relationship, now he's just trying to make money.

Another well-known ex-basketball player and now analyst Jalen Rose called Pippen the most disrespectful of the great players, because he always demanded exaggerated reverence even from the older ones and honored players and, moreover, did not take part in any significant moment of the Chicago dynasty.
On Amazon, Pippen's book has an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 and is seriously sagging in ratings. Pippen managed to come out at the same time as actor and musician Will Smith's autobiography, titled Will. Soon Scotty was in for another trouble: on November 16, the book I Wish It Lasted Forever: The Life Story of Larry Bird's Celtics was released.
