Why Sand for Your Basketball Hoop?
You actually don't have to choose only sand for your basketball hoop. There are other things you can use to weigh it down like water. However, sand is the better option. Here is why.
Reason 1: Sand is Denser
Compared to water, sand is about 45% denser. That means with sand, your brand-new portable basketball hoop will be much more stable. With a portable basketball hoop, stability is one of your main concerns. So, using sand instead of water is the better choice.
Reason 2: Water Can Freeze
Another very important reason why you might want to go with sand instead of water is that water can freeze up. This can especially be a problem if you happen to live in a very cold climate.
If the water is frozen, the hoop will become much heavier and it may be damaged. With sand for a basketball hoop, you won’t have any freezing problems, whatsoever. Also, the opposite is true. In very hot climates, water may evaporate. That’s another thing you don’t need to worry about with sand.
How Much Sand for Basketball Hoop Base Do You Need?
Alright, let’s get into it then. The thing you need to know is most portable basketball hoops in the market will have a 35-gallon water capacity. This can be different for other models, but 35-gallons based hoop is pretty standard.
To substitute 35-gallons of water, 500 LBS of sand would do just fine. Just go to any home store and buy 10 bags 50-pound sandbags. This should be enough to get the job done.
Sand is more expensive than water. But given there are so many benefits of using sand, it really is worth it.

How To Fill Sand In Your Basketball Hoop?
Filling your basketball hoop with sand is pretty easy, actually. There are just a couple of steps you need to take.
Step 1 : Make sure to read the owners’ manual. There will be instructions and also things you need to know about your particular hoop.
Step 2 : Lay the hoop on the ground with the base plug facing upwards. It should balance on the rims.
Step 3 : Have someone hold the pole so it doesn't tip over when filling and then open the base cap.
Step 4 : Use a funnel to pour in the sand nicely so you don’t create a mess. Once filled, just the cap back on.
Step 5 : Lastly, turn the hoop back to the upright position, and voila! You are done. Having a couple of extra hands will be useful since a hoop filled with sand can get heavy. See? That wasn’t so hard, was it?
Wrapping Up
Alright then, now that you know how much sand for basketball hoop base you need, you can start pouring sand into your brand-new portable basketball hoop right away and start enjoying some fun games.
Remember to have someone that can help you with the process. 500 LBS of sand should do the trick. If there are any special instructions for your hoops, they should be mentioned in the instruction manual.

A bag of play sand retails for around $3, as of January 2011. Filling the base with water is significantly easier than filling it with sand. For sand, you need to place a large funnel in the fill hole and carefully pour each bag of sand through the funnel.

Therefore, I recommend (and we recommend in our instructions) to use sand. Sand is denser and heavier, and filling the base with sand creates a much more stable pole and backboard. Some of you may be concerned that using sand makes the system extremely heavy to move. You are right, it does.

Made of absorbent polymer, you will mix the gel with water. This mixture can become the equivalent weight of several bags of sand. Designed to be both mold-resistant and freeze-thaw durable, base gel can last several years. Once firm, it can also resist small holes or cracks that can cause leaks.

In recent years, billionaire Mickey Arison, president and CEO of Carnival Corporation, has shown the most notorious example of bad decisions when two of his cruise ships crashed in the same year. Where was Mickey when his ship Costa Concordia hit the reefs off a small Italian island (where he was not supposed to be at all)? 32 people died, and the lives of thousands of others will never be the same again. Arison did not even try to come to the scene. As soon as he became aware of the seriousness of the incident - it was enough to turn on the TV and see what the whole world was watching - he should have been ordered to refuel a corporate jet and go to Italy. Instead, Arison, figuratively speaking, buried his head in the sand and went to watch a basketball game with the Miami Heat (the NBA team he owns). Amazingly, even after all the harsh criticism he received for not immediately going to Italy, he does not appear to have learned from his mistake.
Nearly a year later, Arison's other huge cruise ship - ironically named the Carnival Triumph, "The Joy of the Holidays" - was towed to the port of Mobile, Alabama, after a fire destroyed the generators, causing the liner to drift for five days at sea. Passengers were in terrible conditions all this time: there was no electricity and water, air conditioners and toilets did not work, refrigerators with food were defrosted. Instead of personally supporting clients, Arison again preferred basketball. On a day when he was supposed to stand on the quay in Mobile handing out blankets and checks of compensation to angry passengers, he tweeted that there were still tickets for the upcoming Miami Heat game in the box office!
When the CEO or president of a company rushes to the scene of a disaster, they are unable to change anything - you cannot turn back time. In 99% of cases, they cannot give an immediate answer to the most important question: "What is the cause of the crash and who is responsible?" The first thing that is taught in good crisis management training is not to operate with opinions, assumptions or rumors, but to wait until the experts name the reason. This usually takes months or even years. All company leaders can do is show by personal presence that they are concerned about the situation, that they sympathize with the victims and support their people who are taking action in connection with the current situation. When an executive like Mickey Arison decides to stay at home and watch what is happening in the media, he makes it clear: “I don’t give a damn about all this!”
As the tragic story of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 showed, no two emergencies are the same. At the time of this writing, there is still no answer about the fate of the missing aircraft, crew, and passengers, and the airline's investigation has drawn heavy criticism from desperate relatives and the media. Representatives of the company were not ready to respond around the clock and daily to the inquiries of journalists from all over the world, and the amount of conflicting information and unfounded statements on their part simply went off scale. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all involved in the tragedy - including the under attacked CEO of Malaysian Airlines. I can only say that if, God forbid, such a situation happens again, then I am sure they will cope with it better.
Knocking on wood as I write these lines: For a man who has been in transportation for thirty years and owns companies with annual passenger traffic of several million, I am extremely lucky - I have only once encountered a serious fatal accident. This happened in early 2007 when the Virgin line went off the rails in the North East of England. At that moment, together with my family, I was in the ski resort of Zermatt in Switzerland; in the evening, at the beginning of ten, a message came with the text "code black", which meant a serious accident on the railway. In the course of hasty telephone conversations, it turned out that the wagons that had derailed had fallen down a slope and I needed to "prepare for the worst." I immediately decided what I needed to do, and, it seems, only said: "I'm going" - but it turned out that this was easier said than done. It was snowing heavily, so I couldn't use the helicopter. Due to bad weather, the nearest Sion airport was closed and they were going to close the airport in Geneva. With no other choice (but to stay put), I rented a car and set off on the grueling five-hour journey through the snowy night to Zurich airport, praying it would be open. It was open and I managed to catch the next flight to Manchester at 6:30 am. There I was met by Tony Collins and Director of Public Relations Will Whitehorn, who briefed me on the way to the crash site.
I was deeply saddened by the death of an elderly passenger, Margaret Masson, but when I saw the mangled cars, I felt relieved that there were no more deaths. My decision to come immediately was certainly the right one. I realized this on the way to the hospital, where injured passengers were treated. I tried to meet with as many victims as possible and talked to Masson's inconsolable relatives, to whom I expressed my deepest condolences.
We learned a lot from this accident, which, as it soon became clear, was due to the technical condition of the track - which was completely beyond our control. Not knowing what led to the crash and who was to blame, I didn’t distract myself for a second from one thought - to get to the scene of the accident as quickly as possible. In such a situation, any top manager who does not immediately rush to the scene of the tragedy will arrive there "just in time" - just in time for the press to subject him to severe criticism for not showing up earlier.
We all make many decisions in our lives, big and small, good and bad. Some decisions will be welcomed and called brilliant, others will be condemned and called wrong or questionable. However, in a critical situation, for example, during a major accident at your enterprise, you, as a leader, must collect as much reliable and up-to-date information as possible and take the bull by the horns. Whatever the situation, indecisiveness is not an option, and I think now Mickey Arison will agree with me that in most cases 90% life is the appearance in the right places.

Comfortable and nice, thanks to the staff for our great vacation
Beautiful nature, well-groomed territory, delicious cuisine. Of the minuses, cars drive around the territory, there is no outdoor pool, the cost is high even for a promotion, used shampoo sachets from previous guests remained in the shower, I had to clean it myself, there was no soap.

VERY cozy place. We celebrated our daughter's wedding here. Friendly staff, clean, delicious menu. Pleasantly surprised by the breakfasts. There were some comments about the shower room in the guest house, but it's not critical
15-20 minutes drive from the city center. A great place to spend time with family, friends, and with any company. The location is right on the river. There is a restaurant, a bar, a tent, billiards, even a katkmaran (but isn't that right?). In general, the place is recommended to stay 5/5?
