Ex-captain of the Russian national basketball team Andrey Kirilenko, now playing for the NBA club "Utah Jazz", received US citizenship.
"I received the green card a long time ago, but to be able to become a US citizen, I had to wait a few more years. This is just a change of status," American media quoted Kirilenko as saying.
Curiously, the 29-year-old forward could not answer a number of questions in the US history test, but in the end he successfully passed the exam.
Recall that Andrei Kirilenko began his career in St. Petersburg "Spartak" and then moved to CSKA. In 2001, he decided to try his hand at the NBA, moving to Utah, in which he is one of the leaders.
As part of the Russian national team, Kirilenko became the European champion in 2007, and a year later he was appointed the flag bearer of the Russian team at the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

90,000 Basketball player is harassed for moving to CSKA. Jonas hasn't started playing yet, but has already lost money
Jerebko gets hard in his native Sweden, and the sponsor instantly terminated his contract. All because of moving to Russia.
Basketball club CSKA suffered significant personnel losses at the end of February. An impressive group of legionnaires left the capital's team, which, of course, made the fans of the "red-blue" worry. But the multiple champion of the country tried to stop the losses by including several experienced foreigners in the application. There was also a place for the Swedish forward Jonas Jerebko.
A player with experience in the NBA, who knows firsthand about Russian basketball, fearlessly accepted a new challenge in his career.
And already paid the price.
Old acquaintances
— It is a great honor for me to become a part of CSKA, a club with such a history. I have been waiting for the opportunity to play basketball again and I am very glad to join the team, - the Swede is quoted by the press service of the Army Men.
It should be noted that the 35-year-old athlete has an impressive experience of playing in the National Basketball Association. Jerebko played for the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Utah Jazz, and Golden State Warriors. In 2019, the basketball player returned to Europe by signing a contract with Khimki. Thus, the legionnaire should not have problems with adaptation - what is Russia and Russian basketball he is well aware of.
- We wanted to add an experienced player to the position of the fourth number, in new circumstances we needed a replenishment. It is clear that there are not many offers on the market now. Jonas was happy to come and play for us, to again get the opportunity to prove himself at a high level," the official website of the Moscow team quoted CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis as saying.
The mentor added that he had previously worked with Jonas in North America. As part of the new team, Yerebko will also be able to find players he knows. For example, Alexey Shved, who in the recent past, together with the Swedish legionnaire, defended the colors of Khimki. Old acquaintances should help a beginner adapt to new realities, but how easy it is for a Scandinavian to get into the rhythm of the game is still a big question. After leaving the team near Moscow in 2021, he did not have serious practice at the professional level.
New problems
Performance in the Russian championship for some athletes carries certain risks - and Yerebko is no exception. Having signed a contract with CSKA, he learned that the Swedish company Nocco had stopped working with him. The manufacturer of soft drinks decided to punish the athlete for such an untimely, according to management, move to Russia.
Perhaps if it was some kind of solid commercial contract, Jonas might have changed his mind. But in the current situation, the Swede preferred the sporting aspect - it is still prestigious to play in the eight-time Euroleague champion even at a time when the "soldiers" were expelled from European cups.
