How to get courtside basketball tickets

How to Get Courtside NBA Tickets

In this article:

Long known by sports fans as a status symbol and a way to rub elbows with the rich and famous, courtside seats at an NBA game are undoubtedly the best tickets in the house. Being able to take in all the action from just feet away from some of the best athletes on the planet is the ultimate way to watch a basketball game, so it’s not surprising that sitting courtside at a game is a bucket list experience for many sports diehards.

If you’ve watched an NBA game on television within the past handful of years, you’ve surely seen some of the most instantly recognizable people in American pop culture taking in game action from the seats closest to the court, including the likes of Canadian rapper Drake, actor Jack Nicholson, renaissance man Justin Timberlake and celebrity power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

How to Get Courtside Tickets

If you’re looking to get your hands on courtside tickets, there are plenty of ways to do so. Here’s a quick list of some of the options available:

SeatGeek

The smartest option is to get your tickets through SeatGeek. SeatGeek has you covered for all your NBA ticketing needs, including courtside tickets. In addition to having the largest ticket inventory on the internet, SeatGeek also has its own Deal Score system, which makes finding the best bargain on your desired seat a cinch. Shopping on SeatGeek? Don’t forget to use code TBA20NBA to save $20 off your purchase of $100 or more.

You can find courtside seats by heading to the event page for the game you’re interested in. Once there, select the courtside seats you’d like and view the pricing details on the left. Use Deal Score to determine which tickets are the best deal.

You can also zoom in to explore the rows and courtside details more closely.

Buy tickets directly

Courtside tickets are available for purchase for millionaires and common folks alike through each NBA team’s ticketing websites as well as through the league’s website at NBATickets. com. Single-game courtside options can become a bit limited due to the high percentage of season tickets held for the best seats in the house. If you’re looking to sit courtside for a particular matchup, you should try and secure your seats as far in advance as possible.

What teams have the cheapest courtside seats?

When it comes to buying courtside seats for playoff games, the only people that seem to be able to afford them are the uber-wealthy–at least during playoff games. However, tickets for courtsides during the regular season can be surprisingly economical depending on the team. Here are the five most affordable.

Dallas Mavericks

Having not posted a winning season since 2016, it’s not much of a surprise that the Dallas Mavericks offer the cheapest courtside tickets in the league by a wide margin. However, the Mavericks have restocked their roster with young talent over the past two years, including last year’s Rookie of the Year, Luka Doncic. For a team that’s seemingly trending in the right direction, courtside tickets to Mavericks game offer a great bang-for-your-buck.

  • Preseason: Dallas Mavericks at Utah Jazz

Vivint Arena · Salt Lake City, UT

    Tickets

Phoenix Suns

The second cheapest courtside ticket in the league belongs to the Phoenix Suns, who have posted a combined total of 87 wins over the past four seasons. Similar to the Mavericks, the Suns have also amassed a decent group of young talent which will be exciting to watch — including the likes of recent No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, rookie Jarret Culver and prolific scorer Devin Booker.

  • Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns

    Footprint Center · Phoenix, AZ

    Tickets

Atlanta Hawks

Stuck in the middle of a rebuild, it’s not surprising that the Atlanta Hawks would offer one of the more modestly priced courtside seating offerings. After making the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons, Atlanta has stumbled mightily over the past two years but has been wheeling-and-dealing and acquiring as many assets as possible. One reason to check out a Hawks game in person is 20-year-old guard Trae Young, who averaged over 18 points and 8 assists per game for Atlanta in his rookie campaign last year.

  • Preseason: Atlanta Hawks at New Orleans Pelicans

Legacy Arena at The BJCC · Birmingham, AL

    Tickets

Denver Nuggets

After a five-year hiatus from the postseason, the Denver Nuggets were able to make it to the playoffs last year, ultimately making quite a bit of noise as they eliminated the Spurs in the first round before losing in the Conference Semifinals thanks to an incredible Damian Lillard buzzer-beater. Priced at just under $500 per ticket, Nuggets courtside seats should be a tremendous value for the upcoming season, given how much improvement the team showed in the 2018-19 campaign.

  • Preseason: Denver Nuggets at Golden State Warriors

Chase Center · San Francisco, CA

    Tickets

Indiana Pacers

Coming in at the fifth cheapest courtside ticket is the Indiana Pacers, who have qualified for the NBA Playoffs in each of the last four seasons. Led by guard Victor Oladipo and forward Bojan Bogdanovic, the Pacers will be looking to make it past the first round of the playoffs in 2019-20, something they haven’t done since 2013-14.

  • Preseason: Houston Rockets at Indiana Pacers

    Gainbridge Fieldhouse · Indianapolis, IN

What are some of the perks of sitting courtside?

There are a seemingly endless number of perks that go hand-in-hand with courtside tickets, which fall into three main categories: amenities, access and visibility.

Amenities

Since courtside seats are premium fan experiences, they usually come with plenty of added amenities to enhance the fan experience. Common amenities include complimentary food and beverage, padded chairs, parking passes and concierge services.

Access

Courtside seats provide unparalleled access to a basketball game as you are just feet away from the best players in the world. You’ll be able to hear the players communicate on the court and you’ll have the best view in the house.

Visibility

If you sit courtside, you’re almost certainly going to get on television at some point. Another added benefit for sitting courtside is that it’s a great way to flex for your social media accounts, as you’re sure to make your followers jealous when you post a picture of yourself on the court on Instagram or Twitter.

How to Get Courtside Seats to an NBA Game

For many of us avid NBA fans, courtside seats are the pinnacle of an NBA game experience.  Mere feet away from some of the best basketball players in the world, you’ll have a first-class view of all the action on the court.  And while courtside seats to an NBA game may seem like a perk reserved for the rich and famous, that isn’t necessarily the case.

For many teams, particularly teams going through a slump or those in a rebuilding phase, courtside seats are actually relatively inexpensive.    That is why, below, we are going to review and discuss just how to get courtside seats to an NBA game.

Why Should You Purchase Courtside Seats?

Perhaps the single biggest benefit of sitting courtside at an NBA game is the simple fact that you will be mere feet away from the action and the players.  Courtside seats are the closest seats to the game and to the action and provide you with a more intimate experience to the game.

In addition, by sitting courtside, you’ll have an unobstructed view of all the action.  Whereas  most other seats in the stadium are surrounded by other fans and individuals, courtside seats are not.  And while there will be fans immediately behind you, there won’t be any in front of you.

Similarly, courtside seats provide plenty of prestige and bragging rights.  You’ll definitely be the source of envy to many of your friends and family members, as you post highlights to your social media accounts showcasing the action straight as it happens.

And lastly, with such intimate access to the players, game, and actions, sitting courtside may afford you the opportunity to speak with and discuss the game with players on the bench.  While you may not be able to request an autograph, having the ability to meet an NBA player for an extended period of time is a  feat that few others can claim.

How Much Are NBA Courtside Tickets?

NBA tickets, generally, are bought and sold by both the teams themselves and individual fans.  Typically, you are able to purchase tickets to an NBA game via an NBA team’s specific website, however, oftentimes, those tickets are more expensive and costly.

This is because those tickets are being sold straight from the teams and not from a reseller.  As such, there is little incentive to offer discounted pricing, with ticket prices typically being set at the start of the season and changing little throughout.

However, purchasing NBA tickets from a third-party reseller, such as StubHub, allows you to purchase tickets from other fans. These tickets are oftentimes sold by season ticket holders who may be unable to make a game due to a prior commitment or obligation.

As such, and in order to recoup some costs associated with the price of the season ticket, those individuals will list their tickets online.  And because they will want to offload their tickets and ensure a sale occurs, they will typically offer the tickets at a steep discount.

That is why we always recommend purchasing NBA tickets straight from StubHub and not from the individual NBA teams.

However, when it comes to NBA courtside seats, prices can vary wildly. Depending on the team, their current season success, and the market in which they play, prices can range from $300-$8,000 per ticket.

Best Ways to Get Courtside Seats

All that is to say, that although courtside seats to an NBA game are not as expensive as one may assume, knowing just how to get courtside seats, and the best ways to do so, can be a bit more challenging.   While courtside seats are some of the most popular seats in the arena, there are a few surefire ways to secure a pair for yourself.

  • Purchase from StubHub – as mentioned above, StubHub is by far the best destination for securing courtside seats to an NBA game.  With their competitive pricing, low fees, and supply-and-demand based marketplace, you can find great deals on NBA tickets throughout the season, playoffs, and even during the NBA Finals.
  • Become a Season Ticket Holder – again, we’ll admit, that season tickets are not cheap.  In fact, depending on the team and  their previous season success, season ticket prices can go into the tens-of-thousands of dollars.  And for courtside seats, those prices can rise even higher.  However, with season tickets, you’ll not only be afforded the opportunity to watch every live home game, but you’ll also be able to sell individual game tickets to any game of your choosing.  Whether due to previous engagements or a scheduling conflict, season ticket holders can go to sites like StubHub and sell individual game tickets at their discretion.
  • Win Courtside Tickets – another great, and much cheaper, way to get courtside NBA tickets is to win them.  Oftentimes, NBA teams will hold raffles, halftime contests, and other opportunities for fans to win courtside seats.  If you’re. a lucky fan who happens to get chosen for a halftime contest; your grand prize may just be courtside seats.
  • Befriend Someone Who Has Courtside Seats – admittedly, this one is a bit more difficult.  But, if possible, you can try to befriend someone who has courtside seats.  If they do, they may be willing to take you along with them to a game and you’ll be able to watch the game from the front row.
  • Get Them From Work – and lastly, for many people who work in a corporate environment or office, many corporate sponsors purchase both courtside and suite tickets for their employees and clients.   While these tickets typically go fast, you may be able to secure some for yourself and a big client if you ask early enough.
