Hi guys! It’s Meg from GreenWith Decor. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Now we can safely decorate for Christmas! I’ve started some Christmas shopping and small projects here and there, but we haven’t gone into full-on decorating mode yet. That changes today. I’m excited to get everything out this weekend!
I have an easy DIY ornament to share today that’s perfect for your favorite baseball or basketball lover.
Here’s what you need for this project:
Clear ornaments
Drop cloth
White spray paint
Orange spray paint
Red permanent marker
Black permanent marker
-->
I love spray paint. I use it on everything from old spaghetti jars to dressers. It’s such an easy way to transform the look of pretty much anything.
Take the ornament toppers out and set aside.
Use white paint for baseballs and orange paint for basketballs. I put gloves on so my fingers wouldn’t get soaked in spray paint.
Spray one side, then let it dry, placing the non-painted side down so you don’t mess up the paint.
Paint the other side, again putting the non-recently painted side down.
Use your judgment if you need a second coat of paint. Again, spray one half of the ornament at a time so each can dry without getting smudged.
Using a red permanent marker, draw the baseball stitches on the white ornament. This is the hardest part of the whole project just because you have to keep your hands steady while you’re drawing on a circle object!
Use a black permanent marker to make the marks on the orange ornament for the look of a basketball.
Put the ornament toppers back in the ornaments.
Hang up and enjoy! Or wrap up and give to your favorite sports lover for Christmas.

As the mom of two very active little boys, I know that part of my destiny is to be constantly surrounded by sports equipment. On weekends, I’ll forever be shuttling my kids to-and-from practices and games. There’s cleats and jerseys, and other sports stuff already in the backseat of my car. Our backyard? Forget it. Sports, sports, sports.
You know what? I’m totally ok with this! I’m excited that I’ll be their biggest fan, cheering my dudes on from the sidelines of whatever sport they’ll be playing (even if they end up playing the clarinet in the marching band, I’ll be a proud “Band Mom!).
So far, my kids have tried soccer, and now they said they want to try basketball “like Daddy”. My husband is 6’4″ tall, and most certainly played basketball when he was younger. So, our boys are eager to get on the court and try it out, too!
They have a basketball and little hoop that they like play with around the house, and I decided to make some cute DIY basketball Christmas ornaments to add to their excitement about playing basketball.
These ornaments came out super cute, and the kids were so excited to hang them on our Christmas tree!
Here’s how you can make this Basketball Christmas Ornament for the b-ball fan in your life:
DIY Basketball Christmas Ornament
SUPPLIES
Paintable Clear Plastic Christmas Balls
Orange Glitter Paint
Black Ink Permanent Marker
White Fabric Paint
DIRECTIONS
1.First, pop the silver top off of the clear plastic ornament.
2. Pour a generous amount of orange glitter paint into the bulb of the empty ornament.
3. Swirl the ornament around so that the paint begins to completely coat the inside of the ornament. It should be looking less clear, and more orange!
4. Once the bulb of the ornament is completely orange, you’ll leave it to dry. Using an empty cup is a great way to stand the ornament up, and let the excess paint drip out, while the inside of the ornament dries.
5. Now you’ll use a black permanent marker to draw on the “lines” of the basketball.
6. Then, using white fabric paint, write your child’s name (or the name of the person you’re making the ornament for) across the front of the basketball.
7. Hang your new basketball Christmas ornament from your Christmas tree with ribbon or twine.
Now that your basketball ornament is hanging
from the tree, let’s talk about what’s under the tree for your favorite little baller.
Basketball Gift Ideas
With my two little boys constantly growing out of sizes of clothes, I’m totally one of those “mean” moms who buys them new clothes for Christmas. Since I practically live at Target, I was shopping there recently and came across the NBA Reflective Collection. It’s an awesome clothing line that is the perfect athleisure wear, and is exclusively available at select Target stores.
I picked up some pieces from the collection to gift to my kids and husband! The clothing comes in youth ages 4-16, and also in men’s sizes. I really love the great quality of the NBA Reflective Collection. I think my kids will like all of the cool parts of the clothes like the reflective elements, and fun zipper pulls!
So, when the basketball fanatic in your life is headed to the basketball court to play, or off to watch a game, make sure they’re looking their basketball-best in the new NBA Reflective Collection.
What will you be gifting to your favorite basketball lover this holiday season? Be sure to check out the NBA Reflective Collection at a Target near you! It’s the perfect holiday gift for the big or little athlete in your life. You can also keep up with the NBA Reflective Collection on Twitter and Instagram to see all of their latest gear.
Basketball hoop - how to make a stand with a backboard with your own hands
Love basketball and want to make a hoop? I wanted to make it myself, not buy it, and I ended up making it. It's pretty cheap, especially if you have some of the stuff you need to assemble.
Let's start assembling the basketball hoop with our own hands.
Step 1: Shape the Ring
The first thing you will need is a ring, I made it with 12mm rod, but it doesn't have to be that size. The standard diameter of a basketball hoop is 450 mm.
To make it flat you need something to wrap it around, this thing should be about 400mm in diameter.
I found an old car rim of the right size, you will need to clamp it to the table with a clamp using a piece of wood.
As shown in photo 2, place another clamp a little further from the first with a rod between them.
As shown in photo 3, slowly wrap the rod around the disk, once you wrap the rod and its edges overlap, cut off the straight ends.
Use a clamp to press the ends together, then weld them together.
To complete this part, place the ring on the ground and straighten out all the curves.
Step 2: Frame
Bend a piece of flat metal, mine was 4mm thick.
Weld it to a flat point in the ring.
Cut two rods 320 mm long.
Weld them as shown in the photo.
Drill four holes to match your existing bolts.
If you need a netball ring, you can simply attach it to a post and skip the rest of the steps.
Step 3: Mesh Staples (Optional)
Show 7 More Images
Do this step if you need mesh. If you need a network, you will have to buy it. This step is not as difficult as it seems.
cut 12 pieces of wire 90 mm long (I would recommend making a few spare parts, as they are easy to ruin.)
bend them in the middle (it doesn't matter if the tips are the same length)
clamp the wire in a vise with a steel rod at one end
bend wire over rod
repeat this with all parts of
retighten the wire wrapped around the rod (see photo)
bend it
repeat with all parts
retighten the wire wrapped around the rod
bend it (at this point you can't just remove the wire from the rod - you will need to slide it to one of its edges and remove it from the edge)
repeat with all parts of
divide into 12 pieces and weld on the brackets
Step 4: Backboard
Cut the board to size. My board does not fit the full size of basketball boards. (the second picture shows the dimensions of a standard shield).
My measurements are 1100mm wide, 700mm high and 25mm thick. (You don't have to be that size.)
Step 5: Paint the Shield
Once you've drawn all the lines on the shield, lay masking tape over them. If you try, everything will look neat.
If you are using MDF, you will need to take care to protect the edges from moisture (as shown in photo 2).
Carefully paint over the areas around the masking tape.
Remove masking tape after enough coats of paint have been applied and the board looks complete.
Step 6: Paint the ring
First you need to sand the metal. I used a grinding disc on a grinder.
The ring must not be black or white, it must stand out from the shield. Usually the ring is painted orange or red.
The easiest way to paint inventory is from a can.
Step 7: Assemble
Put it all together. Screw the ring to the shield, hang a net on the ring.
Step 8: Installation
DIY Basketball Post is great to mount on a garage or house wall, but if you want to mount it on a pole, you can create one too.
I installed my ring in the yard using heavy duty wood screws.
A standard basketball hoop must be placed 3 meters from the ground.
I am not responsible for any damage you cause to yourself or your property - you make your own ring.
Successful throws!
Dimensions of the basketball hoop with your own hands
Easily!
Did you have to restrain yourself when you were walking past the basketball court to avoid throwing the ball into the basket? Why hold back? Team sports reliably unite people of any age, religion and social status. And to look decent at any moment and on any site, you just need not start training.
Small places for playing streetball can be equipped on sports grounds near the house, and rings can be built in suburban areas for children to play from improvised means. So, how to make a basketball hoop yourself?
Dimensions and materials required
Basketball hoop 45 cm inner diameter;
the height of its upper edge above the playing area is 3.05 m;
ring material - metal bar, plastic pipe, improvised materials;
diameter of rod or tube for ring - 16-20 mm;
distance from ring to shield - 15 cm;
net length - 40-45 cm;
mesh material - metal chain, synthetic cord, rope, braid.
Types of basketball hoops:
metal with anti-vandal nets made of metal chain;
metal with rope mesh;
plastic with nets of various materials;
creative (from the remains of construction, from old furniture, from large plastic containers).
The construction of a ring from a metal bar begins with marking. Since the basket must have an internal diameter of 45 cm, a rod or pipe is selected based on this.
Material length is calculated using the formula:
Bar length = Circle diameter x 3. 14 (pi value). We have 45 × 3.14 = 141.3 cm.
Since we need to fasten the ring to the shield, we take the length of the bar about 150 cm. You can bend the bar or pipe on the template (wheel), or you can bend it to size, measure the diameter and straighten with a mallet. The rest of the bar or pipe should be prepared for fastening to the shield using drilled holes and screws.
The ring is ready. Now you can make a grid to it. If it is assumed that the ring will hang on the adjacent territory of an apartment block, then it is better to make the grid anti-vandal, using a metal chain. The mesh is attached to the ring using 12 lugs or a smaller diameter rod welded on the bottom of the main ring.
Rope, braid, twine net can be woven by yourself. To do this, the material 20 m long, from which the mesh is prepared, is cut into segments of 160 cm. If the mesh is supposed to be hung on 12 loops, then 12 segments are prepared.
When hanging pieces of rope on the ring, each section is picked up by a marine knot. The next row of weaving begins with knots connected by a series of hanging ends. So you need to weave 4-5 rows. For the beauty and neatness of the product, you can use a template by placing it under the knots to be connected. The lower ends of the rope should be melted to prevent fraying.

It's easy to please your family and friends: how to make a basketball hoop with your own hands at home
Basketball is a great game, and the yard version is the most democratic kind of sport. It can be played with a team of 6-8 people or practice throws alone.
A basketball hoop installed on a plot of land or in the yard is sure to gather fans of this sport around. Moreover, often a home-made product is better than purchased options, since the age, height, and preferences of the players are taken into account.
It can be an order of magnitude stronger and more durable than store-bought. And a person receives much more moral satisfaction from a hand-made ring.

First, you need to decide which ring you want to get in the end. Just a basket with a wall or tree mount, or a complete shield complete with everything you need. Then - choose a place to install the shield and prepare the site. The next step is to break it down into stages.
Photo 1. Scheme of a standard basketball backboard with necessary measurements. To play in the yard, it is not necessary to consider all of them.
Tools and materials
jigsaw for metal;
wood saw;
drill or hammer drill;
wrenches;
paint and brush.
To make the ring, you can use a thick steel wire with a diameter of at least 5 mm, an iron strip or an old hula hoop. It will have to be shortened a little in the future. For the manufacture of the shield, plywood will be used, at least 5 mm thick. If the shield is installed in the yard, then a strong pillar is provided for support.
Dimensions
The size of the ring should be 45 cm in diameter (slightly larger than a basketball). The size of the shield is 180x105 cm.
The product will be attached at the bottom of the shield: 5 cm from the edge. So, from the ring to the top of the shield should be exactly 1 meter.
The shield can be hung at any height depending on the average height and age of the players. But it is also possible on the standard one - 3 m 5 cm.
This will allow the players to feel comfortable on any standard court in the future.
View
If the ring is attached not just to a tree, wall or post, but has its own shield, then it must have an appropriate view. The shield is usually white with black stripes around the perimeter and a painted square directly above the net. The size of the square is 45 cm high and 56 cm wide. This standard will make the game correct and help to put the ball directly into the basket, because if it hits the square, it will bounce right on the target.
Making a basketball hoop
If the ring is made of wire or steel strip, then it must be wound around a cylindrical object and fastened both ends. If from the hula-hoop tube, cut out the unnecessary part of the hoop with a hacksaw and reconnect the ends. When making a ring, you need to remember to make fasteners, for example, bend the ends of the wire in one direction, so that you can then attach them to the shield.
There must be a net on the ring: after the ball hits the target, it will direct it straight down, and not to any corner of the court. To make it, you need a long cord.
Pieces of cord, approximately 20 cm each, must be tied to the ring at such a distance that they evenly cover the entire circumference at 12 points.
Then with another segment in a circle, tie all the ropes, and so several times with an interval of 5-6 cm. The net is ready.
The shield is sawn with a jigsaw or a hacksaw, after marking with a pencil. After that, the product can be painted.
Important! The black stripes and the square above the basket on the shield must be 5 cm wide, otherwise they will simply not be visible.
After the paint has dried, you can attach a ring to the shield, and fix the shield itself to a pole or wall. The rate and type of fasteners depends on what the ring was made of and how the shield will be attached. The main thing is to calculate so that the structure can withstand at least 40-50 kg of load.
Mounting at home
If the ring is made of round wire, and its ends are bent down, then they can be pulled to the shield with 2 bolts connected by a metal plate in the area of the caps.
If the ring is made from a wide iron strip, then the ends must first be bent so that the strip fits snugly against the shield.
Such a product is also fastened with bolts threaded through pre-drilled holes in the strip and plywood.
If there is no shield and the ring is to be attached directly to the wall, anchors can be used instead of bolts. In this case, you will need a puncher to make holes in the wall.
To a tree or wooden post, the ring can be nailed with 100 mm nails or screwed with long screws.
Attention! Whatever type of fastening is used, one thing unites them - it is necessary to put the ring on a horizontal level. If it hangs crooked, then the ball will slide off the edges past the basket.
After the shield and ring are fixed, the site is prepared. It should not have stones, puddles, and protruding stumps. Basketball is a very traumatic sport and players do not need any extra risk at all, they will stumble over a bush, stump or stone sticking out on the court. If the ring is installed indoors, then before the game you need to make sure that everything that breaks easily is hidden, and the glass on the windows is securely protected.
Watch a video showing how to make a basketball hoop from a metal rod.
Which ring is better, homemade or purchased. There is no definite answer here. A homemade product performs sports functions and is aesthetically pleasing to family members and friends of the manufacturer.
Even if outwardly it is a little more unsightly than store bought. In addition, home-made is calculated for certain loads. Whereas a store product, it is not known how much it will sag in conditions of harsh operation.
On the other hand, a high-quality, expensive, hand-made ring with a shield, produced at the factory in compliance with all sizes and state standards, is unique. So it's up to the players to choose.

The summer season will come very soon, and many parents with their restless children will leave the city. Adults, as usual, will dig in the beds, but what should bored children do at this time? In this article, we have prepared information for you on how to make a basketball hoop with your own hands, and with it a playground.
Choosing the location of the site
This issue must be approached very responsibly, because many factors must be taken into account. It is desirable that the playground is located at a distance from the house and from the garden.
So, here are the places that are in no way suitable for a basketball court:
On uneven terrain. Any sports ground implies a perfectly flat playing surface.
Near water bodies. It is contraindicated to play near any bodies of water, especially if you have children. It is possible that the ball will fall into the water and the fidgets, wanting to show their independence to their parents, will go to get it themselves. They will most likely end up in trouble.
In the lowlands. There, the site will dry for a very long time after various precipitations, which means that it will be used very rarely and will soon be abandoned.
Playing grounds near ground water are also prohibited. Every year the landscape will change, as a result of which the fixation of the shield with the ring will warp.
Creating the surface of the court
0004
Remove topsoil from the surface. To do this, dig in about 50 cm of earth. Such a procedure is necessary in order to continue laying the drainage cushion, which is laid in front of the main coating.
Lay the geotextile on the soil. To do this, it is cut into separate pieces, because it goes in a whole canvas. Such pieces can be stacked in any position. The main thing to consider is that they cover each other by about 20-30 cm, which excludes subsidence of the upper layer.
After that, the geotextile is sprinkled with sand and leveled, the thickness of such a layer should be approximately 15 cm. The grate is half filled with sand, and the other half with crushed stone. The layer thickness also remains 15 cm.
Fill with cement to form expansion joints. This is necessary so that the top coating is well fixed for a long time. In addition, after various precipitations, water will quickly seep through all layers, which will contribute to the rapid drying of the playing place.
After all steps have been taken, the topmost layer is placed on the treated surface. It can be any surface: a sports lawn, a special mixture of sand and clay, a roll coating, and others.
Equipping the basketball corner
Even when the foundation was just being installed, we should have thought about where our hoop would hang. For convenience, racks with rings are installed along the edges of the site, as in a real gym. Here are the dimensions to be met:
The minimum distance between posts is 3 meters.
The area of the field should be approximately 20x35 m.
The ring itself should be approximately 2 m above the ground.
Making a backboard
Making a basketball hoop with your own hands, just like a backboard for it, is not difficult at all. To make a shield on our own, we just need to adhere to the following algorithm:
Make a frame from metal corners that need to be welded together according to the given dimensions.
Select the necessary boards to make the wall. When they are fastened together, some gaps may remain, but they will not interfere with the game at all. Just make sure the boards are level.
Next, the finished shield must be painted to your liking. Children can be involved in this procedure, because, as you know, they are the best designers.
We make the main component
Here we will look at the classic braided version and learn how to make a basketball hoop with your own hands. In general, it is not so difficult to make, the main thing is to show a little accuracy and desire.
To create braided rings, summer residents will need only two things:
The base of the ring. Usually it must be made of iron.
Strong threads. They can be seen: thin rope, cords, thick yarn, any rope.
So, what needs to be done in order for its main component to appear on your site:
At the very beginning, you need to make an iron blank in the shape of a ring and highlight a small protrusion in it. The diameter of the circle must be such that the ball can pass freely into it. It is better to entrust such work to the stronger sex.
Then comes women's work. To do this, we take a rope and cut it into 8 equal parts. Then you need to tie them at the previously planned distance so that two ends of one thread hang down.
Now it's time to start weaving the mesh. To do this, the adjacent ends of the segments of a thick thread are tied into knots, obtaining different grid cells. All ends of the ropes are required here. Thus, it is necessary to make several layers of cells until the threads run out.
Which ring is better?
After making a basketball hoop with your own hands, you involuntarily wonder what is better: a store hoop or something we made ourselves?
Of course, a handmade item is always the most pleasing to the eye. But it takes much more time to make it than a ring that can be bought in a store in a couple of minutes. But still, if there is no time to make this item on your own, it is better to purchase it in a special store with sporting goods.
So, in this article, you have learned how to properly install the court, as well as how to make a basketball hoop with your own hands for your beloved children who will use it for a long time to come. Most likely, you yourself will be interested in being active and participating in the game.

After making a basketball hoop with your own hands, you involuntarily wonder what is better: a store-bought ring or one that we made ourselves?
Of course, a handmade item is always the most pleasing to the eye. But it takes much more time to make it than a ring that can be bought in a store in a couple of minutes. But still, if there is no time to make this item on your own, it is better to purchase it in a special store with sporting goods.
So, in this article, you have learned how to properly install the court, as well as how to make a basketball hoop with your own hands for your beloved children who will use it for a long time to come. Most likely, you yourself will be interested in being active and participating in the game.
Here are the dimensions of the basketball backboard (this is a professional basketball backboard, you can reduce the size a little if necessary).
The shield itself can be made, or plywood (preferably moisture resistant) from MDF, it can be made from plexiglass, boards, these are the most inexpensive options.
Next, we buy, for example, plywood (sheet).
Then mark (see dimensions above) with an electric jigsaw cut out the shield from plywood.
In general, everything, the shield itself is the simplest product.
Next, dry the plywood in two layers with drying.
We paint, you can also use exterior oil paint in two or three layers.
Then (after the paint has dried) a marking for a rectangle above the ring, see its dimensions also above.
Draw the rectangle itself with the same paint, but in a different color (red, to be more precise, white).
The ring can be bought ready-made (bolted to the shield), can be bent from a pipe, the diameter of the ring is 45 cm.
