How to play the basketball messenger game
How to find and play all of Facebook Messenger's secret games from basketball to chess
Facebook Messenger is a brilliant thing. Not only does it let us chat to our mates, anytime, anywhere, for free, but thanks to an increasing number of games that have been drip-fed on to the platform, it also offers up some secret entertainment for when the conversation dries up.
While there are some that are hidden and need a bit of handiwork to unlock – which we've outlined below – others are now more in plain sight.
RELATED: Facebook is going to merge Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger
We've been doing some super sleuthing to hunt out all of them down – and how you can get them.
If you can't access certain ones, it may be not available in your region, or due to roll out, so watch this space.
Instant Games on Messenger
Facebook
Facebook has finally got the hint and been adding a load of games into the main Messenger app. Although these are regularly updated, there have been two main waves, the first in May 2017 and the second in December 2017. You'll find the 'Games' button down near the camera button on both iOS and Android.
From there you can select any of the following to play against your pals:
First Wave
Words With Friends
Pac-Man
Space Invaders
8-Ball Pool
Snake
Batman's Bat Climb
Cooking Mama
EverWing
Solitaire
Blackjack
Gin Rummy
Sudoku
Second Wave
Sonic The Hedgehog
Tetris
Angry Birds
Disney Tsum Tsum
Puzzles & Dragons
As you can tell from the brand names involved, these aren't all made by Facebook, either – there's a load of new developers getting involved including Disney, Rovio, Sega, Zynga, Taito, Namco, Miniclip, Warner Bros, Blackstorm and GungHo.
Apple
So expect a load more once developers catch a whiff of success, with Facebook claiming up to 50 different playthings were available in the first launch window, with that growing ever since. These turn-based games can be played in the chat and also include leaderboards and tournaments.
Hidden Nokia Snake Real World game
Nokia
Facebook already had a version of the O.G mobile gaming phenomenon, Snake, from when they started adding games early on. But since the addition of Facebook Stories in early 2017, the social media giant has woven in an AR version of Nokia's Snake, especially for Facebook Stories.
You can access Snake via this link, then head to your notifications on your mobile app, click it and the special Snake filter will unlock in your Facebook camera. The game allows your to choose between three settings - slow, normal, fast - then place your pudgy snake on the ground using your front-facing camera, then simply begin gobbling up apples. Ssssssweet.
Hidden Facebook Football Game
Facebook
Want to kick it slightly more old-school? It's time to head for the emojis rather than the menu screen. If your attempts at casual chat are turning into a bit of an own goal, Facebook's hidden football game could help lift the mood, assuming your friend's up for a quick kick-about.
Unearthing the Euro 2016-inspired Facebook football game is pleasingly painless, too. If you've ensured you're running the latest iteration of Messenger, all you have to do is unearth the football emoji and send it to a mate.
Apple
That's it. Well, almost. Click on the soccer emoji you've sent and a keepy-uppy game will emerge before your eyes. Now all you've got to do is tap on the ball to keep it off the ground. Get past 10 points and things will get a bit trickier as... Well, give it a go and see for yourself.
Hidden Facebook Basketball Game
Digital Spy
For when your chat is anything but a slam dunk, Facebook's hidden basketball game can provide hours of fun – seriously, this thing is ridiculously addictive.
Finding the hidden Facebook basketball game is surprisingly simple too. Once you've ensured you're running the latest version of Messenger, all you have to do is send a friend a basketball emoji. That's it. Now, clicking on that sent b-ball will launch the hidden game. Game on.
Apple
Both you and your friend can play within the chat window, with both players' high scores logged in the message feed – just so bragging rights can be duly appointed. If you hate losing, don't worry. A crafty YouTuber has found a brilliantly simple way to cheat at Facebook's hidden basketball game using nothing but a ruler – you're welcome.
Hidden Facebook Chess Game
Digital Spy
Not everyone's into basic swipe-based ball games. If your gaming tastes are a little more highbrow, Facebook's hidden chess game is going to be more up your street. Finding Facey-B's chess title is a little bit trickier than sending a picture-based word replacement. Instead, typing "@fbchess play" into a chat window should see a digital chessboard appear in a magical, Harry Potter-impressing fashion.
Now all you've got to do is master how to control the thing – something that's easier said than done. Instead of pointing and clicking to move your pieces, you're going to have to remember some shortcuts and square locations.
Samsung
Every time you want to make a move, you'll need to type "@fbchess" followed by the piece abbreviation and the code for the square you want the piece to fill - confused?
OK, so here, K stands for King, Q for queen, B for Bishop, N for knight (are we all really that dense?), R for rook, and P for pawn. So, moving your king to square C5 needs you to enter "@fbchess Kc5" - got it?
Keep this page bookmarked too – we'll continue to update it as new Facebook games are unearthed.

20 Fun Facebook Messenger Games You Can Play • Oki Doki
Facebook Messenger is a widely used messenger, and for good reason. The app contains many features to help you connect with your friends and family, including many instant games that you can play with your friends directly from the app. Here we take a look at the top 20 Facebook Messenger games, including some popular classics and a few new ones that you should definitely check out.
There are no special download links for these games. To access games, you need to open Facebook Messenger and find the game you want to play.
1. Uno
The classic Uno card game that probably caused a lot of arguments between you and your siblings is available as a game on Facebook Messenger.
Programs for Windows, mobile applications, games - EVERYTHING is FREE, in our closed telegram channel - Subscribe :)
For the uninitiated: Uno is a card game in which the main objective is to get rid of all the cards in the hand before the opponents can do so .
The game uses a special deck of cards created specifically for the game and includes several unique cards such as Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, Draw Four and Wild .
With Uno on Facebook Messenger you can relive your childhood memories and play with your old friends, even if they are far away.
2. Words With Friends
Words With Friends is another great game I played back in college. The game is a classic Scrabble word game, but instead of playing it on a board, you can play it virtually with your friends.
In the game you need to fill the board with words using the letters in the bag of tiles, and for each word you play you get some points, depending on the letters used and the tiles you place them on.
The game is both a great test of vocabulary and strategy, and is a fun game to play whenever you have free time.
3. Ludo King
Ludo King is another great board game that you can play with your friends and family online. Up to 4 people can participate in the game , where each player is assigned a color and four corresponding figures.
The object of the game is to move all your pieces on the board once and get to the tile between them. This is may seem very simple, but can be very frustrating because other players can send you back home if they land on the same tile as you. If you haven't played Ludo before, you should definitely try Ludo King on Facebook Messenger.
4. Basketball.
Next is a really simple and straightforward game called "Basketball", in which the main goal is to repeatedly throw a basketball ball into ring until you miss .
The number of consecutive hits becomes your score, and your Facebook friends can try to beat that score in turn. The game seems pretty simple, but since the basket is constantly changing position, you need to play at least a couple of games to get familiar with the touch controls.
While it's available as a standalone game on Messenger, you can even activate it by sending someone a basketball emoji and tapping it multiple times.
5. 8 Ball Pool
The popular virtual pool game 8 Ball Pool is also available on Facebook Messenger, allowing you to quickly play pool with your Facebook friends. You can choose from three different game modes, including 8 Ball Pool, 9 Ball Pool and Quick Fire mode.
While you can only play 8 Ball Pool and 9 Ball Pool with a friend, you can play Quick Fire by yourself to brush up on your pool skills.
6. Draw Something
Draw Something is another great classic called Pictionary remastered into a digital game for Facebook Messenger.
The game tests your drawing skills by giving you a random word to draw, then drawing is sent to whoever you are playing the game with and they have to guess that you drew correctly.
Don't worry if you're not too confident in your drawing skills, because bad drawings can cause great reactions.
7. Quiz Planet
Are you a fan of quizzes? Then you should try Quiz Planet, a fun quiz game that you can play with your friends. You can choose from a variety of topics and challenge your friends by answering questions by topic.
Both you and your friends are asked the same questions, and you must answer them within the allotted time. At the end of the quiz, you can compare your results and find out who won. The game can be played even when none of your friends are online, as the game records your answers and compares them with your friends when they finally submit their answers.
8. EverWing
EverWing is an arcade-style shooting game in which you control a fairy who shoots bullet waves as waves of monsters go their way. The controls of are quite simple, you just need to control the movement, but you need to have a quick reaction, otherwise you risk crashing into one of the monsters.
All the monsters that you successfully blow up drop coins, and you need to collect these coins and also dodge incoming projectiles. EverWing is game is for single player, but it has a leaderboard where you can compare your high scores with those of your friends.
9. Ninja Go
Ninja Go is a simple and addictive puzzle game in which you play as a ninja who must collect dots scattered throughout the different levels of .
The controls are pretty easy to pick up, you just have to swipe in the direction you want to go, but the levels get progressively more difficult and include more obstacles so this is a real challenge.
To beat the game, you need to have ninja swipe skills, otherwise you can just die from the ever-increasing number of obstacles.
10. Hanger
Hanger is a silly little game very similar to Flappy Bird; no, you don't control a flying bird, the game is just very frustrating. In the game, you play as a guy who has to get Spider-Man through obstacles by hanging and swinging from the ceiling of .
While it may seem simple, the game is incredibly hard to master and will have you pulling out your own (or someone else's) hair in no time. Try Hanger if you're looking for a mindless casual game to pass the time.
11. Connect the Dots
Have you played Flow on Android? Well, Connect the Dots is just something that has a different name. The main goal of the game, as the name suggests, is to connect dots of the same color on the checkered board.
All you have to do to connect the dots is draw a line between the dots, however be careful with the path you choose or you won't be able to connect some of the dots on the board.
While the first levels may seem really easy, the later levels can definitely be a challenge and you will need to strategically plan each level before drawing your first line.
12. Stone Dash
Stone Dash is a really simple arcade game where you have to blast stones of the same color .
The more stones you blow up at once, the more points you get. Each level has a leaderboard and your goal is to score as many points as possible to take first place.
While you can randomly click anywhere to break blocks and collect points, you'll need to build combos strategically if you really want to get on the leaderboard.
13. Chess
You can even play a quick game of Chess in Messenger, a great adaptation of the popular game with many different game modes. The game offers easy daily puzzles where a pair of chess pieces are placed on the board and you have to win the game.
There are Blitz mode where you get one minute per turn , Time Attack mode where you can play quick 5 minute games, and Classic mode where the move limit is set to 48 hours . If none of your friends are willing to play chess with you, you can also play against random strangers online, which is a good option.
14. Golden Boot
If you're a football fan, you should definitely try Golden Boot, a simple Facebook Messenger football game that requires you to take free kicks from different angles and score goals to score .
The goalpost is divided into several different zones, each of which gives a different number of points if you manage to get the ball through the zone. It's easy to score an empty net at first, but the game features defenders and a goalkeeper, making it even harder to score goals.
15. Last Knife
Last Knife is another fun game that tests your reaction. In the game you must throw knives at the spinning board and try to break it .
Each subsequent board can withstand more and more knives, so as you progress you will have to throw more knives at the board to break it.
This is not as easy as it might seem, because each subsequent board shows more and more knives already attached to the board, which you need to avoid . If you hit with a knife, the game will end and you will have to start over.
16. Space Invaders
Retro game enthusiasts must have heard of Space Invaders, the popular game from a bygone era that made its way onto Facebook Messenger. Space Invaders in Messenger is exactly like the original game, in which you control a spaceship that continuously fires missiles at a grid of aliens.
Your goal is pretty simple: you have to destroy all the aliens before they get you, but again, despite the simple controls, the game itself is quite difficult to master.
17. Angry Birds
Most of you have already heard of Angry Birds and just in case, it's a simple game where you have to catapult various angry birds into some greedy pigs and destroy them.
Each stage features two different types of pigs, one for you and one for your opponents, and you must choose carefully which ones to kill or you might accidentally kill yours. The Facebook Messenger version of Angry Birds can be played against friends, which makes it much more engaging than the regular game.
18. 2048 Tetris
2048 and Tetris are definitely some of the best puzzle games out there, but Tetris 2048 is even better.
combines aspects from 2048 and Tetris into a mind-blowing puzzle game in in which you have to arrange the falling blocks according to their numbers, combining blocks with the same numbers to get a higher number.
If you're having a hard time beating 2048 and Tetris, get ready for the ultimate test, because scoring decently in 2048 Tetris isn't easy.
19. Sonic Jump
Sonic Jump is a simple arcade-style game in which you play as Sonic the Hedgehog, who jumps from one platform to another to get as high as possible while avoiding annoying critters.
is very easy to learn and uses your smartphone's accelerometer to move Sonic left and right . On hard-to-reach platforms, you can even double-tap the screen to make Sonic jump higher. Sonic Jump is an exciting game that you can play in your free time.
20. Galaga
Rounding out the list is another classic game called Galaga, in which you control a spaceship that flies through a treacherous sky.
