The smallest score in basketball

The largest score in an international match (251-33) was recorded in the game between the national teams of Iraq and Yemen in New Delhi during the Asian Games in November 1982.

Mats Vermelin (Sweden), 13 years old, scored all the balls (272 points) in a match that his team won with a score of 272 : 0! at the junior tournament in Stockholm, Sweden, February 5, 1974

156 points brought to her team by Marie Boyd (now Eichler) from the Central Lonaconing team, Maryland, USA, February 25 1924 in a 163-3 game against the Ursalina Academy, Cumbria.

The highest aggregate score in a match was 370 when the Detroit Pistons defeated the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in Denver, Colorado, USA) December 13, 1983. Overtime was played after the score 145:145 in regular time.

Most regular time total was 320 when the Golden State Warriors defeated the Denver Nuggets 162-158 in Denver, Colorado on November 2, 1990

100 points in basketball is considered a grandmaster indicator. However, not always such performance was a guarantee of victory. The history of this game knows cases when both teams far exceeded the 100-point bar. If we take into account only professional teams, then the biggest score in basketball was recorded in the game between the Detroit Pistons and the Denver Nuggets, which on December 13, 1983 for two scored 370 points. It is noteworthy that the other 9 places in the top are also occupied by representatives of the NBA, indirectly answering the question of where they play the brightest and most effective basketball.

10. Boston Celtics 173-139 Minneapolis Lakers (27/02/1959) Score 312 points for two is extremely difficult even with a few overtimes. However, in 1959, in a regular season match, Boston and Minneapolis were able to meet the main 48 minutes. To a greater extent, this achievement belongs to the players of the Celtics, who literally defeated their opponents, providing a difference of 34 points.

Boston Celtics vs. Minneapolis Lakers, 1959

Tom Heinsohn was the top scorer in the game with 43 points. In general, 13 basketball players from both teams overcame the 10-point mark. And one of them, Bob Cosey, also made 28 assists. By the way, Bob held the title of the most passing player for 8 years - from 1953 to 1960.

9. San Antonio Spurs 161:153 Denver Nuggets (11/7/1990) Unlike the previous match, where there was a clear favorite, the battle that took place at the beginning of November 1990 between San Antonio and Denver was uncompromising. Each team took two quarters, and the third 12-minute was decisive, which the Spurs managed to win with a 16-point handicap.

San Antonio's David "Admiral" Robinson was the hero of the game with 43 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 assists. Interestingly, Robinson played for the Spurs throughout his professional career, eventually earning the honor of becoming a member of the NBA Hall of Fame.

6-8. Phoenix Suns - Denver Nuggets 173:143 (11/10/1990) 1990 was truly a record-breaking year in the world of basketball, with the Denver Nuggets almost every time. This time Denver's rival was Phoenix, who didn't put things off the table and literally terrorized the opponent's ring in the first two quarters, scoring 107 points. Having moderated the ardor a little in the second half of the meeting, the Suns nevertheless calmly brought the match to victory.

Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets emblems in 1990

In addition to the unimaginable score, this match was marked by another record. Phoenix coach Cotton Fidzimons scored 700 career wins, becoming only the 7th coaching man to surpass that mark.

6-8. Cincinnati Royals - San Diego Rockets 165:151 (03/12/1970). Cincinnati Royals 1969-1970 season. demonstrated excellent performance, which peaked in the period February-March, when the team scored an average of 127 points per game. This trend was not only confirmed in the match against the San Diego Rockets, but became even more obvious. The Royals scored an amazing 165 points, with the main push coming in the first quarter, in which the Rockets were outplayed by 18 points.

1970 San Diego Rockets Roster

One of the last games in the Cincinnati Royals jersey for team legend Oscar Robertson. Over the course of 10 years, he averaged 29.3 points, 10.3 assists and 8.5 rebounds. In April 1970, Big O was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

6-8. Philadelphia Warriors - New York Knicks 169:147 (03/02/1962) The March 2, 1962, game between the Warriors and the Knicks is forever remembered in American basketball history as the "Chamberlain 100-Point Game. " Philadelphia Philadelphia center Wilt Chamberlain scored exactly 100 points - an NBA record that many experts consider eternal. When Wilt had 41 points after 2 quarters, his teammates decided to play exclusively for him so that he could beat his own record of 79points.

Wilt Chamberlain in 1962

The final result exceeded even the wildest expectations. At the end of the match, the spectators present in the stands chanted only one phrase: “Give the ball to Chamberlain!”, And the Warriors players gladly followed this instruction. Having scored the hundredth point a minute before the end of the game, the main character of the match simply stopped in the center of the court, not even trying to increase the record, because he did not want to spoil the round figure. The photo of Chamberlain holding up a 100 sign is considered one of the greatest images in NBA history.

4-5. Phoenix Suns - New Jersey Nets 161:157 (12/7/2006) The most scoring game of the new era is the Suns vs. Nets matchup in the 2006-2007 season. The game ended only after the second overtime, while during the meeting the leader changed 34 times. After the meeting, Phoenix Suns coach Michael d'Anthony stated that it was the best game he had ever seen.

The teams scored 318 points together, first of all, thanks to the inspired game of their leaders - Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. The first scored 42 points, made 13 assists and made 6 rebounds, the indicators of the second are no less impressive - 38 points, 14 assists and 14 rebounds. The difference of 4 points between the performance of Nash and Kidd, in fact, became decisive, since such a handicap was observed in the final protocol of the match.

4-5. Denver Nuggets - San Antonio Spurs 163:155 (01/11/1984) In the 1983-1984 season. The Denver Nuggets have established themselves as the most offensive force in the Western Conference. At the same time, the Nuggets did not differ in particularly reliable defense, so the matches with their participation turned out to be extremely productive. Perhaps the most striking proof of this fact is the match between Denver and San Antonio, in which each team scored over 150 points without using a single overtime for this.

The first two quarters went to the Nuggets, who created a comfortable 18-point handicap. The Spurs did not give up and halved the gap, but they could not snatch the final victory or at least take the game to overtime. The most productive player of the meeting was Kiki Vandeweghe, having realized 21 shots out of 30 attempts.

3. Golden State Warriors 162:158 Denver Nuggets (11/2/1990) The highest score in a non-overtime game was the Warriors vs. the Nuggets on November 2, 1990 in the regular season. For one of the highest scoring teams in history, Denver, it was the first home game of the 1990-1991 season. and introducing new head coach Paul Westhead to the local public.

Coach Paul Westhead

Both teams used a total of 22 players in the match and 21 of them managed to hit the opponent's basket at least once, while 12 basketball players scored more than 10 points. Golden State Warriors' small forward Chris Mullin scored 38 points, one point ahead of Nuggets' Orlando Woolridge.

2. San Antonio Spurs 171:168 Milwaukee Bucks (3/6/1982) 3 overtimes is a fairly rare occurrence in the NBA, even considering the uncompromising nature of most matches in the regular season and especially in the playoffs. It is to this match that the meeting between the San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks, which ended with a unique score, belongs. 337 points for two is the second highest figure among professional teams not only in America, but also in the world.

Milwaukee Bucks Roster 1982 years

Throughout the game, the opponents kept very close to each other, so regular time did not reveal a winner. Two overtimes also turned out to be a draw, and only in the third added five-minute period did the Spurs manage to break away by 3 decisive points. George Gervin contributed the most with 50 points, 24 of which came in overtime.

1. Detroit Pistons 186-184 Denver Nuggets (12/13/1983)

For many modern basketball fans, Detroit is associated with a defensive team, for which sometimes it is enough to score 80 points to win. However, in season 1983-1984 it was a brightly attacking team with an average performance of 117 points. The Denver Nuggets were considered an even more reckless team, averaging 123 points per game. Therefore, it is not surprising that fate chose these teams to forever enter their names in the NBA book of records.

370 incredible points for two could not have happened if, three seconds before the end of the fourth quarter, Isaiah Thomas had not given hope to the Pistons with his accurate shot. This was followed by 3 overtimes, as a result of which Detroit managed to snatch victory in this historic game. It is difficult to say whether someone will be able to encroach on this record in the future. At least in the 30 years that have passed since then, no one has even come close to such figures.

1. Biggest Score

In 1990, the Denver Nuggets lost to the Golden State Warriors 162-158 in Colorado State. That is, the total score in regular time was equal to 320 points! And the game with the most devastating score took place in 1982 in New Delhi: the game between the national teams of Iraq and Yemen ended with a score of 251:33

2. The highest players

Libya team. His height is 245 cm. Now the tallest basketball player is Chinese Sun Ming Ming, 240 cm tall. Among the Soviet record holders, Alexander Sizonenko (USSR), from the Kuibyshev Stroitel, had a height of 239And the tallest woman who played basketball was Ulyana Semyonova - 210 cm. But the shortest player in the history of basketball is Muggsy Bogzu, who has a height of 160 cm.

One day, 80,000 people came to the Olympic Stadium in Athens! It hosted the final match of the European Champions Cup between "AEK" (Athens) and "Slavia" (Prague). It happened on April 4, 1968

4. The longest match

There is a match in the history of basketball that has broken more than one record. But it was not at the Olympics or the championship cup, but in the NCAA student league. in the Atlantic Division. In 2006, a match was played that lasted 58 hours. Started playing at 8 am on Saturday and ended at 6 pm on Monday. The Duke team defeated rivals from North Carolina with a score of 3688:3444! The box office of the match amounted to $ 60,000 - they went to charity for children with dangerous diseases.

5. USA Nine-Time Olympic Basketball Champion

Since the introduction of basketball into the Olympics, the USA has won 63 times in a row! The USSR broke this flawless winning streak in 1972 in Munich. It was there that the legendary match took place, in which the Soviet team sent the winning ball across the entire field into the ring in the last three seconds! In subsequent years, the United States became basketball champions twice more - for the eighth and ninth times.

The last of the Mohicans. Where is basketball played now? – PBK Lokomotiv-Kuban – the official website of the professional basketball club

We live in an amazing time when almost all not only basketball, but sports competitions in general have stopped. However, there are people on the planet who continue to play the best ball game not only in the backyard in self-isolation. We will talk about these heroes in a brief review, moreover, among them there are players well known to Loko fans.

With great certainty, but without claiming to be 100% accurate, we can divide all current championships into two camps. In the first camp, perhaps, we are still talking about the character and some kind of internal interest of the federations not to stop the championships no matter what. Player boycotts, appeals to the basketball community to stop everything, disinfection right on the court - all in vain. We play. Until yesterday, this group could include the championships of Australia, Great Britain and Turkey.

Australia finally surrendered - the management and players of the Sydney Kings club issued a statement refusing to play the fourth match of the final series against the Perth Wildcats. The players agreed on a similar decision with the club's management, having received support from him. The Australian League did not particularly protest against such a scenario. Now "Perth", which was in the lead in the series to three victories with a score of 2:1, is likely to be declared the champion ahead of schedule. Note that here, at least, everything is logical with the fact that they tried to finish the championship. Still the final episode.

In Europe, it turns out that only matches in the UK and Turkey remain. No, we haven't forgotten about Superleague 1 and Superleague 2 of the Russian Basketball Championship! Just yesterday, the RFB issued an official statement in which it is written in black and white that from March 20 to April 10, absolutely all matches are suspended. Consequently, some clubs have already canceled their games, and someone will play out and go on a forced break, as Lokomotiv-Kuban-TsOP has already done.

Back to business! So, Great Britain is an island state, where there are rules of the basketball game and established foundations. Despite the fact that the championship has not yet been suspended, one team no longer plays its matches. It's about the London Lions. Will the UK Basketball Federation follow FIBA recommendations? Rather, yes, but so far 90% of matches are played according to schedule. There will be another meeting on this issue tonight, so it is possible that when you read this review, you will already have updated information about the British.

The difficult situation is also in Turkey, which is still trying to stand apart and plays absolutely all league matches. Of course, without spectators. Neither Larkin’s calls, from whom Turkish citizenship has not yet been taken away for starting a wave of indignation, nor a full-fledged letter from Galatasaray in which the team asks to stop the championship, nor bright demarches of individual clubs (the Biyukcekmece legionnaires simply did not go to travel to the next game, which the Turkish team lost by 23 points) until it breaks through the federation. And the players themselves understand that a boycott will change little. The same "Galatasaray" wrote a letter? Wrote. The federation sent them away? Rejected. Only two legionnaires did not go to the next match - one on principle, the other because of a cold. However, there is a serious possibility that the Turks will still suspend the championships. Why in plural? Because the first and second divisions of the Turkish championship are also still in the game. As, by the way, and all football divisions! Unbelievable, but it is a fact.

So far. It is quite possible that Turkey and Great Britain will very soon appear in the form of conditional Chingachgook and his son Uncas, who will not be able to save Kora and, of course, will not die, as in the book, but will simply suspend their championships for a while.

The situation is much simpler in other countries, which we will refer to the second camp. There are a little more of them than will be indicated in the text, but we will not consider the championships of African countries. We take the level higher, after all. Or some irony. You will understand!

Japan, for example, along with China, was one of the first countries to carry out massive efforts to prevent and combat COVID-19. The Japanese Championship went into quarantine on February 17, and now, almost a month later, it was decided to resume the matches.

What's going on in Barbados and Mexico regarding the fight against coronavirus? It's hard to say, but they play. As it is written in the newspaper "Vecherny Acapulco": "We continue to danchit, everyone basketball."

Let's talk about these exotic countries a little lower in the text, and now about China! There is no longer a pandemic that has smoothly moved to Europe, so the championship will be resumed from April 2. It will be very interesting to see how this happens, because many players have left the country and are not particularly eager to return there. But! Do you remember that money does not smell? Here, it's just about them. The Chinese Federation has threatened all players who do not return to the League that they will be banned for life in China, and agents will receive a ban for 2-3 years. This is a very serious blow to wallets, so most likely 90% of players will return. We are not talking about such tops as Jeremy Lin, Lance Stevenson, Donatas Motejunas or Miroslav Radulica, who will easily find a new club. In addition to these guys, there are 71 other legionnaires in the CBA. And all these guys went there for the dollar, and not for the popularization of basketball in China. Therefore, we should expect a smooth resumption of the championship without any serious consequences for the League.

We continue to follow with great interest what is happening on these basketball courts, alien to the Russian people. But even there there is something to see, someone to cheer for, something to note! To brighten up sadness, melancholy and sorrow for basketball, we invite you to choose a championship and a team about which we will tell you from time to time on our website while the VTB United League and Loko are not in business. Of course, there is only one team that we support and it is called Lokomotiv-Kuban, but while the basketball life goes on, we will try to brighten up your sports leisure with interesting information! You can vote in our VKontakte. Let's go!

Bulls vs. Cavaliers. The Warriors are in last place. Harsh Barbados

Caribbean Sea, mild warm climate, excellent beaches with golden and white sand, favorite drink of pirates, paradise for surfers… And basketball! That ladies. At the beginning of the article, we noted that in Europe, among those countries that still play basketball is Great Britain. What is the connection? Barbados is a former colony of Great Britain, where traditions are very carefully honored and preserved. Maybe this is the reason for the fact that it was this championship that appeared to our eyes in this review!

Let's say right away that you won't see big names here. Let's have no names at all! Because you will hardly ever hear about those five foreign players who play in the Barbados championship in your life. Well, unless you suddenly go for a walk in the wilds of Bridgetown (the capital of Barbados) and slightly exceed the norm for a pirate drink.

But the teams here are just a delight for the ears of basketball connoisseurs! And lovers of fast food, by the way. First up is Burger King Bulls. We are much more familiar with the Chicago Bulls, but oh well, bulls and bulls. Coincidence apparently ... Ha! No, everything is thought out to the details! Cavaliers, Lakers, Celtics and even the Warriors. And now hold on - the wars are in a confident last place in the championship, as if copying their slightly stronger counterparts from the NBA this season. Miracles on the Barbados curves! In second place, remembering fast food, is KFC Pinelands.

Last weekend, Cleveland took on LAL and won 82:70! Oh, what are we talking about, dreamed. It's just that the Cavaliers played with the Lakers in Barbados...

Mexican CIBACOP

The name of the championship, of course, looks more like some kind of nickname, but it is what it is. Seriously, then Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico or CIBACOPA.

Everyone knows that people in Mexico know how to play basketball and the country is famous for good players. Let's just remember Gustavo Aion, who recently came with Zenit to Basket Hall. However, now we will not talk about the championship of Mexico, but about the championship of northwestern Mexico. It is difficult to say whether it is an analogue of the championship of the Festival District of Krasnodar or not, since there are no broadcasts in nature. The teams do not sound like that, but the foreign players are clearly stronger than in the Barbados championship.

There are great doubts that anyone ever heard about the three titles of Hermosillo, Tijuana or Trigueiros in this championship, but what if we find out that there are fans of this particular tournament among the locofamily?!

Hint: We can suggest rooting for Tijuana because they have the strongest squad of nine Americans and experienced coach Henry Bibby, who worked as an assistant for Philadelphia, Memphis and Detroit for about ten years. It is also the westernmost city in Latin America. By the way, when you fly to cheer for them, we beg you, do not walk along Avenida Revolution at night. It is very dangerous! During the day it's ok.

Japanese B League with Hendrix, McLean and Quale

The Land of the Rising Sun was the first to emerge from the basketball quarantine that began in Japan on February 17th. During this time, a gigantic work has been done, and now, the holiday is back! True, so far without fans, but even that is bread. The Japanese Championship is famous for its huge number of teams in three divisions, but we will only talk about the elite B League, where there are enough smart players and teams that are not bad by Asian standards.

Among the players who are no strangers to VTB League fans, let's remember David Simon (played for Astana in the 2013/14 season) and Leo Lyons (played for Budivelnik, and then got to Nizhny Novgorod through Pinar) , where he played only five matches). Vyacheslav Kravtsov, the center of the Ukrainian national team, spent several months with CSKA in the 2015/16 season, and after long performances in Spain, he now plays for San-en NP. Slava's team was not very lucky: 5 wins in 41 matches.

In general, there are many good players in the Japanese Championship. Think of Ryan Kelly, the NCAA champion with the Dukes, who went on to play three seasons with the Lakers and play a bit for Atlanta. Who knows, if it weren’t for the injury, then perhaps Kelly would now be annealed not at Hitachi.

Now about the main thing. Of course, all Loko fans with experience remember those two and a half seasons from January 2013 to May 2015, when Richard Hendrix instilled fear in all the red-greens' rivals in the three-second zone. Time has passed, but we remember and have great respect for this wonderful player. The American Macedonian (Rich received a Macedonian passport in 2014) last year reached the final of the French Cup with Le Mans, and this season he shows an excellent game as part of one of the leaders in the elite division of the Japanese championship, Osaka. 15.7 points + 10.6 rebounds per 24 minutes on the court - not bad numbers, as for a veteran. Double-double per game!

Center Brian Quale, who played for Loko in the 2017/18 season and now represents Shimane, has even more impressive statistics. Quale is also averaging a double-double of 19.6 points and 10.3 rebounds. True, things are clearly worse for Shimane than for the same Osaka - 11 wins in 41 matches. By the way, just a couple of days ago the teams played double matches - two wins for Hendrix and company.

Jamel McLean also moved to Japan this year after failing to play in Italy. Jamel played for Loko in the 2018/19 season, and now defends the colors of the team from the city of Nagoya. 18.7 points + 11.2 rebounds per game. And again a double-double on average per match. Car!

London Goodbye, Istanbul in the game.

Everyone knows about the championships of Great Britain and especially Turkey. They are not some kind of secret for the fan.
