How much does a basketball cost? The cost of a basketball will depend on the type, the brand and the retailer you choose. A simple rubber ball can cost as little as $7, while an official basketball can cost upwards of $100.
If you are looking for an outdoor ball for your child, your best bet is a cheap rubber ball, such as the Voit Indoor/Outdoor rubber youth basketball. This type of ball can cost anywhere from as little as $7.50.
If you are looking for a decent ball you can practice with indoors, a ball, such as the MacGregor X100 microfiber indoor ball, will do the trick. This type of ball will cost about $20 and $30.
Indoor/outdoor composite basketballs can cost anywhere from $19 to $30.
If you are in need of a game ball, the Spalding TF-1000 ZK or ZK Pro, for example, can retail for $40 to $50.
A genuine leather basketball, such as the Spalding Official NBA Ball, will cost about $60 to $100.
Basketball Brands | Price Range |
---|
| |
Spalding Indoor/Outdoor Basketball | $27 to $40 |
Spalding Outdoor Rubber Ball | $12 to $27 |
Spalding Street Basketball | $10 to $20 |
Wilson Evolution Indoor Ball | $44 to $64 |
At Walmart, for example, the highest rated basketballs retail from as little as $7 for a MacGregor official sized ball to as much as $55 for a Wilson Evolution high school ball.
Target, on the other hand, has similar prices, with a Spalding street ball retailing for $15 to as much as $35+ for a Spalding Premier 29. 5-inch basketball.
The sizes
Basketballs will come in three sizes: five, six and seven. The sizes will depend on the age of the player.
Size five basketballs are designed for children up to age 11. These balls will measure 27.5 inches in circumference and will weigh 18 ounces.
Size six basketballs are for those between 12 to 16 years old. These balls will measure 28.5 inches in circumference and will weigh 20 ounces.
Size seven basketballs are designed for those 17 and up. These balls will measure 29.5 inches in circumference and will weigh 22 ounces. This is the size used in the NBA.
The material
Basketballs are primarily divided into two categories: indoor and indoor/outdoor. Indoor balls will be made from a leather or composite, while an indoor/outdoor ball will be made from a durable composite or rubber.
What are the extra costs?Balls that have an official NBA or high school association seal will cost more than one without the seal.
An air pump is recommended for balls that don’t have a self-pump built within. A pump can start at $5.
Tips to know:
While it can easy to purchase a basketball online, you may want to head to a physical store and try it out in person. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with the basketball and see if that material is suitable for your play.
A leather basketball will be soft to the touch and will offer a nice grip, while a composite basketball will simulate the feel of leather and can absorb moisture well. A rubber basketball will be the most durable out of all materials and can be the cheapest in terms of price.
If you’re going to play outside, it’s best to purchase a ball made from a composite material since some balls aren’t designed to hit concrete.
How can I save money?Check for coupons both online or consider purchasing coupons on eBay. Many sports stores have sales and promotions where you can save up to 40%+ on your purchase.
If you are buying basketballs for a team, the best way to save money is to buy a set of basketballs (usually 12 or 15). Most companies sell each basketball cheaper if you are buying more than 10.

The table below breaks down the basketball hoop cost for a few typical basketball systems. We’ve highlighted whether the basketball hoops listed are fitted for a beginner, intermediate, or expert.
Cost of Different Types of Basketball Hoops
There are two main types of basketball systems to choose from, and they each have their unique features and price point. Generally, there are portable basketball hoops and in-ground basketball hoops. Here’s what you should expect to pay for each type:
Average Cost of a Portable Basketball Hoop: $300
One of the most popular types of basketball hoops is the portable basketball hoop. Just like its name suggests, a portable hoop is portable such that you can conveniently take it apart, park it, and take it with you anywhere. Some models come with wheels for portability to easily move them around. Most come with height adjustability settings, which make them ideal for younger players who’re continually growing. You should expect to pay $300 on average for a high-quality and durable basketball hoop.
Average Cost of an In-ground Basketball Hoop: $400
The in-ground basketball hoops, also called outdoor hoops, are types of basketball hoops that come with supporting holes dug into the ground and supported by hard concrete. Compared to the portable hoops, in-ground hoops have more strength and stability. As such, their cost is relatively higher. They are ideal for schools and outdoor settings. You should expect to pay $400 on average for a high-quality and durable basketball hoop.

Another way of narrowing down your search for a basketball hoop is by comparing different brands. The following are the three most popular basketball hoop brands:
Spalding: $400 to $1,000
One of the most popular brands of basketball hoops on the market is Spalding. The company manufactures the official hoops and basketballs used in most professional leagues around the globe. Should You get a Portable or In-Ground Basketball Hoop?
Choosing between a portable vs. in-ground basketball hoop can be hard because both types have pros and cons. To help determine which type is best suited for you, you should answer the following three questions:
- Where will you use the hoop? If you want to use it on a permanent court, then an in-ground basketball might be ideal. If you need to move the hoop around at certain times, then a portable hoop might be a perfect choice.
- Who’ll be using the hoop? You want to choose a hoop that’s designed to withstand the forces being applied to it. For expert-level players, an in-ground hoop is best. For kids, you can go for a portable hoop with adjustable height.
- What’s your budget? Basketball hoops are priced differently. Those made using heavier materials by more established brands demand a bigger budget from customers. Depending on your budget and needs, you can determine whether to choose a portable or in-ground hoop.
Summary
Whether you want a basketball hoop set up on your driveway, backyard, or in your room, you have to determine what amount you can afford to spend to buy a type and brand that suits your needs. With many different types of hoops from different brands to choose from, choosing a hoop that you can afford won’t be an intricate task after all.

How to play basketball?
During training in the basketball section, the coach divides the participants into two teams, traditionally five players each. The team that wins the game is having scored more goals in the opponents' basket in a limited period time. However, it is not enough just to hit the opponents with the ball into the ring, it is necessary prevent it from getting into your own. During the entire game, players can change repeatedly. Often in training, the coach makes regular replacements, allowing all players to participate at once. Each team has its own the captain, who builds the main direction of the game, distributes the participants according to places. The captain becomes a kind of assistant coach trying to educate yourself as a leader and a player at the same time.
The game consists of four periods of 10 minutes and several breaks. Between the first and second parts - two minutes, between the second and third - fifteen minutes, third and fourth - again two minutes. After a long break sites change. During each period, teams may additionally request minute breaks or a timeout. During such a break, you can adjust the chosen strategy, take some rest or replace players.
There can be no draw result - if the periods suddenly ended, but the players finished with a tie, the referees grant another five minutes. If in this time the advantage did not occur, a short break follows and the next five minutes. Only when the undisputed winner was determined, the game ends.
Choose a basketball section in Moscow? Just!
Any training involves active physical activity. Basketball requires maximum return, therefore, after training, the athlete feels a strong tiredness and a desire to relax. Therefore, it is best to search for sections by basketball in Moscow, located close to home. It's hard to find a person who would want to spend another hour or two on the way home after training. However, it should be noted that it is better to prefer a more remote site for training sessions, if the nearest one cannot offer an experienced trainer, quality surface and all necessary attributes. This will build more effective workouts to help improve your own skills.
