How many teams in the big east basketball tournament

How to bet on the Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament: Odds, futures, lines

The 2022 NCAA Tournament begins this Thursday morning. The Big East is well represented of course, with six squads (Providence, Villanova, UConn, Creighton, Seton Hall, and Marquette) all featured in the bracket. Everyone’s got at least a puncher’s chance of making some noise, with some high seeds, and some intriguing possibilities with potential 1-seed matchups in the second round.

Let’s take a look at where each team is standing right now in Vegas. I decided to also make picks myself. Just don’t attack the messenger if you follow this, folks.

All odds come courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook. You can bet on the games here.

To win the NCAA Championship

Villanova (+1400)
UConn (+8000)
Marquette (+30000)
Seton Hall (+30000)
Creighton (+35000)
Providence (+20000)

Pick: If you made me pick here, I’d still probably take Villanova. That’s still a pretty great number all things considered. And they do have the benefit of the 2-line going for them. Plus, ‘Nova typically has done very well in NCAA Tournaments lately. This isn’t the early 2010s anymore, folks.

To make the Sweet 16

Villanova -295
UConn +115
Providence +425
Seton Hall +850
Creighton +900
Marquette +1000

Pick: I’d be torn between UConn and Providence here. Matchup-wise, UConn has a good draw in my opinion even as a 5-seed. The fact that the games are in Buffalo gives them a pretty great home-court advantage if Husky fans decide to travel. The same can be said for the Friars, who are not-so-shockingly being disrespected with this number. In March, I want my teams battle-tested and I don’t care if they eek out wins. You know what they say... ‘Survive and Advance.’

To make the Elite Eight

Villanova +130
UConn +750
Providence +1500
Seton Hall +2000
Creighton +2500
Marquette +2800

Pick: In this case, you have to play this one smartly here. UConn and Providence would both be in line to face 1 seeds. Can they give them games? Anything’s possible. Would I take them? Probably not. Villanova +130 would be my pick if I had to make one here. Though I suppose a small amount on either UConn or PC, in the likely event they’re able to knock off their most likely Sweet 16 foe, wouldn’t hurt you either.

Region Winner

To win the West Region

Providence +3500
Creighton +5000

To win the East Region

Marquette +6000

To win the West Region

UConn +1500

Pick: DraftKings was absent the South Region here. So as a result of that, of these choices, UConn or Providence would have to be the choice here.

To Make the 2022 Final Four

Villanova +300
UConn +1500
Providence +3500
Creighton +5000
Seton Hall +6000
Marquette +6000

Pick: Certainly think that if I had the choice that Villanova +300 would be a good pick, especially at this stage.

Spreads, Moneyline

Providence -2 (ML -135) vs. South Dakota State
Marquette +3.5 (ML +150) vs. North Carolina
UConn -6.5 (ML -290) vs. New Mexico State
Creighton +2 (ML +115) vs. San Diego State
Villanova -15.5 (ML -1750) vs. Delaware
Seton Hall -1 (ML -110) vs. TCU

Pick: I think Creighton-SDSU could really go either way, so I’d look at either of those numbers quite honestly. I’m staying far away from Providence-SDSU, passing on Marquette-UNC and UConn-NMSU, as well as SHU-TCU. Villanova -15.5 is also a consideration, but numbers that big in my opinion aren’t worth the pursuit.

Totals

Providence-South Dakota State: 149.5
Marquette-UNC: 152
UConn-NMSU: 132
Creighton-SDSU: 120
Villanova-Delaware: 133. 5
Seton Hall-TCU: 138

Pick: PC-SDSU and Nova-Delaware’s overs would be my choices if you gave them to me. Everything else feels a little bit too tight. I think we get a lot of offense in those two matchups and so the totals will be ballooned over there. I would probably not go too much further than those current lines, but as they stand, that’s where I’d go.

How many Big East bids in the NCAA Tournament? Dan Hurley says six

The Big East is ranked as the fifth-best league in college men’s basketball by KenPom – behind only the Big 10, Big 12, SEC and ACC. There are only two programs in the conference outside of KenPom’s top-100 teams in the nation and four inside the top-50.

UConn men’s basketball head coach Dan Hurley said that he believes six teams have “proven themselves to be NCAA [Tournament] caliber” during his press conference Friday.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the postseason picture is becoming clearer by the day. UConn (11-6, 8-6 Big East) has three games left on its schedule, including Saturday’s game against Marquette. Since there’s so little time left in the season, let’s look at who those six teams could be.

There are currently five Big East teams comfortably within the top-68 in the NET rankings and two or three that could leak back into the bubble with a hot streak to end the season. They are used to determine who makes the NCAA Tournament in March. The full selecting process was outlined by the NCAA in January.

Sure things

First, let’s take the obvious ones off the table. No. 8 Villanova and No. 20 Creighton are the most likely to win an automatic bid by winning the Big East tournament, but anyone could get hot and rip off a tournament run. Either way, they will both nearly assuredly get an automatic bid.

No. 8 Villanova

Villanova (15-3, 10-2 Big East) has won four of the last five Big East Tournaments. Since the 2020 tournament was canceled it has only lost one, in 2016, since 2015. The Wildcats have made the NCAA Tournament every season it has been played since 2013.

Jay Wright’s team has been comfortably inside the AP Top 25 all season, spending much of it within the top-10. The Wildcats have taken just three losses all season and they rank as the No. 5 offensive team in the nation according to KenPom. The program is projected to win each of its final three games in the regular season by KenPom. Villanova is a shoe-in.

No. 20 Creighton

Creighton is one of just three teams to beat Villanova this season, alongside Virginia Tech and St. John’s. The two top teams face off against one another for a second time on March 3 at 8:30 p.m. in Philadelphia — a must watch game that likely has the Big East regular season title on the line. The Bluejays have won four in a row and seven of its last eight in-conference games.

Guard Marcus Zegarowski and team are projected to win two of their last three games, losing to Villanova but beating Xavier and Butler.

Likely

UConn

The Huskies have seen a tale of two seasons — with James Bouknight and without him.

With its star the program has been near unstoppable, winning seven of its nine games. It was once a ranked program and the two games it lost were to Creighton in overtime, during a Bouknight 40-piece, and to Villanova in his first start since requiring elbow surgery. Without, UConn went 4-4, taking losses to Creighton, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Providence. The Huskies are projected to win two out of its final three, losing to Seton Hall on March 3.

As it stands UConn has a good shot to make the tournament now that it has Bouknight back on the floor and everyone fully healthy, as Hurley said everyone is available against Marquette Saturday. A win over Seton Hall would all but seal its appearance in the Big Dance.

Seton Hall

The Pirates have has a strong showing throughout the season, but have been a bit streaky at times. Hurley’s alma mater has lost each of its last two games to Georgetown and Butler. The program also hit a rough patch in a three-game set back in mid-January, losing to Villanova, Creighton and then Villanova again – but that can likely be chalked up to those programs simply being better as they were all close games.

Beating two tough Big East teams in UConn and St. John’s to end its season would put Seton Hall in a great spot heading into the conference tournament.

Bubble teams

Xavier

The Musketeers have had a tough season. After going a perfect 7-0 in non-conference play, they have lost a bunch of games to COVID-19 pauses during conference play. Between Jan. 13 and Feb. 13, Xavier was able to play just two of its nine scheduled games because of two separate pauses. Since its last pause, the program has won just one of the four games its played – a 63-51 home win over Butler.

While it has one of the most dynamic players in the conference in Paul Scruggs, Xavier hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to have its season take off due to the virus. Considering it has not won a game against an opponent inside the top-50 in KenPom, the Musketeers have to impress in its final three games to cement a tournament nod.

St. John’s

The Red Storm have one of the most interesting cases to make the tournament out of the bubble teams in the conference. St. John’s is another streaky team with some losses to worse competition, but they also beat Villanova handily.

The program is also the No. 39 ranked offensive program in the nation, led by conference-leading scorer Julian Champagnie’s 20 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

St. John’s has two games left this season. Its next opponent is Providence, who they beat 92-81 earlier this month. Then the Red Storm close out the season against Seton Hall, who beat them 77-68 in December.

Providence

Ed Cooley’s Friars have an uphill climb to get into the bubble conversation. Providence has just two games left, both against teams that have beaten them already this season. Wins over UConn and Creighton might not be enough to overlook its under .500 conference record.

The Friars have only beaten one team twice this season, DePaul, taking stinging losses to Butler and Georgetown. It would take a wonder-performance against Villanova, who beat them 71-56, or a beat-down of St. John’s to make the difference.

Marquette

The Golden Eagles are an enigma. The program beat Wisconsin early in the season and followed it up with a win over Creighton 10 days later. It has also lost three consecutive games on three occasions this season.

Marquette is coming off a convincing win over Roy Williams’ North Carolina and has three games remaining in its schedule. Wins over UConn, DePaul and Xavier could be just enough to prove them worthy, but all three of those teams have beaten them this season. They are 17 spots out of the last bubble spot, so it would be very difficult task without demolishing the rest of their schedule.

No shot

Sorry, Georgetown, Butler and DePaul – maybe next year.

2024 | Basketball: Olympic Qualification Rules

The basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics promises to be full of surprises. The US women's team has been unbeaten in gold medals since the Atlanta Games, and the men's team since Beijing 2008, but the level of other teams has grown significantly in recent times. Will we have new Olympic champions?

We will know the answer to this question only in the summer of 2024, but it will be possible to form an opinion about the capabilities of the teams during the international competitions and Olympic qualification tournaments that will be held in the next two years. The first of these will be FIBA Women's World Basketball Championship starting on September 22.

Answering basic questions about basketball qualification for the Paris Olympics.

How many basketball players will go to Paris 2024?

A total of 288 players (24 teams) will compete in the basketball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The number of players is the same for men and women - 144 athletes of each gender . Each tournament will feature 12 commands .

France reserves one quota for each gender as the host country . However, the final decision on these quotas will be made by the central bureau of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on June 30, 2023. If the Central Bureau decides not to directly award the quota to the host country, then the number of teams that can qualify in the normal way will be increased.

What does qualifying for Paris 2024 consist of?

The qualification process will differ significantly for men and women. Let's talk about the most important things.

Men

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023: Seven Quotas

The first competition to award direct tickets to Paris 2024 will be the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The tournament will be held from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

In total, seven quotas will be played within the framework of the championship. They will be awarded to the best teams from the respective continents according to the following distribution:

Olympic qualification tournaments FIBA: Four scotes

The remaining Four scores will be distributed through Olympic Touric. Each of these tournaments will consist of two rounds: Pre-Qualifiers and Qualifiers .

Men's Olympic pre-qualification tournaments

Total 40 teams will compete in pre-qualification tournaments. They will be selected based on the qualification results for the last World Championship. 28 of them are teams that reached the second round of qualification, but failed to qualify for the championship itself. The remaining 12 are the highest-placed teams among those who failed to qualify for the second round of qualification.

Five teams from the pre-qualifiers will advance to the qualifiers.

In the pre-qualifiers, teams will be divided on a continental basis:

  • Eight teams from Africa (one will advance to the qualifying tournament)
  • Eight teams from America (one will advance to the qualifying tournament)
  • Eight teams from Asia (including Oceania) ) (one to qualify)
  • 16 teams from Europe (one to qualify)

Men's Olympic Qualifiers

There will be four tournaments in total, each of which will feature six teams. The winner of each of them will receive a ticket to the Olympic Games.

19 teams are invited to participate, which at the 2023 World Cup ranked the highest among those who did not directly qualify for the Games. Participating teams will be divided as follows:

  • One team from Africa
  • One team from America

  • 16 The remaining commands

The remaining 5 commands are selected according to the results of pre-qualification tournaments:

Women

2022 FIBA World Championship: one quota

The first competition to qualify for a direct ticket to Paris 2024 will be the 2022 Women's Basketball World Cup, which will take place from 22 September to 1 October in Australia. The winner of the championship will receive one quota .

FIBA Olympic Qualifiers: Eleven Quotas

The remaining 11 Quotas will be distributed through the Olympic Qualifiers. Each of these tournaments will consist of two rounds: pre-qualifiers and qualifiers.

Women's Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournaments

Total 22 teams will compete in pre-qualifier tournaments. There will be three such tournaments - one in Asia, one in America (each of which will play four teams) and one in Africa (which will play six teams). The top two teams from each tournament will advance to the Olympic Qualifiers.

The participating teams will be selected based on the results of the Continental Cups to be held in 2023, according to the following principle:

  • Top 6 teams from Africa
  • Top 8 teams from America
  • Top 8 teams from Asia (including Oceania)

In addition, the winner of the World Cup (if it is not a European team) will also take part in the pre-qualification tournaments.

Women's Olympic Qualifiers

Total 16 teams representing all continents/geographic regions will participate in the qualification tournaments. There will be four such tournaments - four teams in each. Each continent/geographic region will be required to host one of the qualifying tournaments.

Both the host country team and the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup winner team will compete in the Olympic Qualifiers. According to the results of the tournaments, 12 teams, including the team of France and the team of world champions - 2022, will receive the coveted Olympic tickets.

The following teams will eventually qualify for the qualifiers:

  • Two teams from Africa (qualified through the African pre-qualifier)
  • Four teams from America (qualified through the American pre-qualifier)
  • Four teams from Asia/Oceania (qualified through the Asian pre-qualifier)
  • Six teams from Europe (France + top five teams from the last European Women's Basketball Championship) ).

The FIBA Central Bureau reserves the right to confirm the Women's Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournament until June 1, 2023. In the event that the Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournaments are not held, an appropriate number of teams from each continent will qualify for the Olympic Qualification Tournaments directly through the 2023 Continental Championships.

When will the Paris 2024 basketball tournament take place?

The 2024 Paris Basketball Tournament will run from July 27 to August 11, 2024 .

As of today, the group stage is scheduled to take place at Stade Pierre Maurois in Lille and the play-off stage at Arena Bercy in Paris , but the venues have not yet been finalized.

Which basketball players to follow in Paris 2024?

Men

Team USA will come to Paris as the favorite. They have become champions of the last four Olympic Games, including Tokyo 2020 where they defeated France in the final. Led by San Antonio Spurs legend Greg Popovich , the Stars and Stripes won the title with a constellation of NBA stars including Kevin Durant, Zach Lavin, Draymond Green and Jason Tatum .

The coach of the Golden State Warriors is now on the coaching bridge of the national team Steve Kerr , and we have every chance to see his most star player - four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry - in the team. Especially as the latter stated that even with all his titles, he is "still not good enough" as he "should play for Coach Kerr in Paris 2024".

France will also aim for the gold medal at home after a strong performance in the Tokyo 2020 tournament final. Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier is among the team's all-stars, and with NBA center Joel Embiid recently granted French citizenship, the home team may well have what it takes to succeed.

Among the strong contenders for the podium is also the Slovenian team , which reached the semi-finals in Tokyo 2020. They include three-time NBA All-Star point guard Luka Doncic .

Women

Women's tournament dominance 9Team USA 0005 is even more absolute - they won gold at the last seven Olympics. Since women's basketball was included in the 90,005 Montreal 1976 Games, 90,006 American women have won the title 9 out of 12 times.

At the Tokyo 2020 tournament, WNBA stars Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi won their fifth Olympic title and beat another legend, Teresa Edwards , became the only basketball players who managed to do so.

Bird will retire at the end of the 2022 WNBA season, but Taurasi may well go to Paris. Most recently, she became the first player over 40 in the WNBA to score 30 points in a single game. In the NBA, only Michael Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki managed to do this.

While Team USA remains the favorite to win for the eighth consecutive time, Team France is among the contenders for the podium. New York Liberty shooting guard likely to feature at home games Marine Joannes and young center Iliana Ruper .

The Belgian team, which has grown significantly in recent years thanks to the likes of Emma Misseman , may also come in as a surprise. In Tokyo 2020, the Belgians reached the quarterfinals, where they lost to hosts Japan 86-85.

The Japanese team is also worth keeping an eye on in Paris 2024 - they play some pretty attractive basketball. In major tournaments, 9 also usually performs well.0005 Australian team .

SKOLKOVO-EASTERN BASKETBALL GAME 200358 September 3 in the city of the Eastern Economic Forum for the participants of the festival-submarine for the participants of the festival. Administration.

“Meeting of the West and the East” – this is how the names of the teams defined this meeting!
In an exciting and tense match, the East turned out to be a little stronger - 47:43!

The rally began with a small swing, but the more flexible business took aim faster, marking their claim to victory by 2 points after the first quarter. However, already in the second segment, the state team agreed on amendments to tactical actions, reminding the business who should dictate the game, and went on a long break to enjoy the freestyle show as a leader, 28:26.

In the third period, the state's attempt to strengthen the advantage was not successful, here the business was helped by a long bench and a successful end of the segment. Closed the third quarter of blistering.

For the fifth year already we have been gathering representatives of business, sports and show business under the rings in Skolkovo! And every year is different from the previous one! This time, for the first time, we had to urgently move to the gym, hiding from the rain.
Fortunately, the bad weather didn't cool the players down, and we experienced a lot of hot and exciting moments!

In the final of the tournament, the strongest teams rightfully met, and the struggle was for every centimeter of the site! As a result: a victory with a minimal advantage for the team led by Evgeny Charkin!

Club 500 took the well-deserved gold and entered their name in the history of SBL first!

The organizing team would like to thank all the participants and start preparing for the return in September! Photos from the Finals We played 8 stages, each of which was difficult in its own way. The final result did not live up to expectations - they did not reach the podium ... But they definitely managed to make some noise and declare themselves!
