They say that wearing the jersey is what gives teams unity and strength, so you want the best design possible for your players, right? Now, going to a print shop and getting the uniform printed before approval can be tricky and can set you back a few hundred dollars. Why not use one of Placeit’s custom basketball jersey templates to show your players or clients how the final design will look?

Wait A Minute, Why Would I Use A Jersey Template?

There are a lot of ways of showing off a design like sketching it up and showing it to other members of the fundraising committee, you could show your clients a flat digital design of what the final product might look like, or you could show everyone a cool action shot with real-life players sporting your design in awesome settings like this one:

  • You can show your jersey sponsors how they will look in real life, once they’re printed out.

So, Is Showing Off My Design The Only Thing I Can Do With These Mockups?

No! You can do so much more like promoting your jersey with parents or school staff. Also, other supporters might want to wear their team pride and selling custom basketball jerseys is a great way to fundraise for your organization.

I know it sounds too simple to be true, but believe me, it is.

Is There Any Other Way of Making Basketball Jersey Templates?

Some custom jersey sites provide previews but usually, the pictures turn out flat and boring and this is not what you want from a picture that’s supposed to hype up your team!
There are other ways of making basketball jersey mockups. If you know how to use Photoshop you could use PSDs, but finding good templates that don’t look cheap or basic is a hassle, and it’s a bit hard to make them look realistic. Also, they take a ton of time that you could be using training for the next big tournament!

There Must Be A Catch, Is It Super Expensive?

The Warp command lets you drag control points to reshape an image, shapes, paths, and more. You can also warp using the desired shape from the Warp pop-up menu in the options bar. The shapes in the Warp drop-down menu can be modified by moving their control points.

Updated in Photoshop 22.5 (August 2021 release)

Using deformation
  1. Select the layer or part of the image to be deformed.

  2. After making your selection, do one of the following:

    • Choose Edit > Transform > Warp or

    • Press Control+T (Win) / Command+T (Mac), then click the Toggle between Free Transform and Warp Modes button in the Options Bar.

  3. Click the gear icon in the Options bar to see more visual guide options. In Photoshop 22.4.1 (May 2021 release), Visual Guides are even better with more guide options.

You can now set the display of the warp guide and choose when to display the visual guides: Automatically show guides, Always show guides, and Never show guides. By default, the grid is set to Always show guides.

You can also change the color and opacity of the visual guides, as well as the number of lines that make up the guide. The Density parameter sets how many lines are displayed between each warp split line. Density is set to 2 by default.

When using control points to distort an element, you can also select View > Auxiliary Elements to show or hide the warp mesh and control points.

  4. To transform an object using a warp preset, choose a warp style from the Warp pop-up menu on the Options Bar.

To create a custom warp mesh, choose a size from the Mesh pop-up menu in the options bar.

    • Select the grid size - default (1x1), 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5.
    • Select Custom and then specify the number of columns and rows in the Custom Grid Size dialog box.
  5. To add more grid control lines, select the split warp option.

    1. Do one of the following.
      1. On the Options Bar, click any button in the Split group.
      2. Choose Edit > Transform > Split Warp Horizontally, Split Warp Vertically, or Split Warp Crosswise.
    2. Move the pointer within the grid and click where you want to add more grid control lines. As you move the pointer over the warp mesh, split lines appear below it. When clicked, additional control points are added to the deformation mesh.

For more information about warp split options, see Warp Split.

  6. Do one or more of the following.

    • You can manipulate a shape by dragging control points, a segment of a bounding box or grid, or an area within the grid. The curve is adjusted using the control point handles. This is similar to setting the handles of a curved segment in vector graphics.
    • Click the grid line to activate control points for editing the deformation. Click an anchor point (at the intersection of the grid lines) to edit the surrounding control points. Drag control points to warp the image.
    • To select multiple points, click the anchor points or drag the pointer over them while holding down the Shift key. When two or more points are selected, a rectangular frame appears around them.
    • To deselect multiple points, click the active anchor points or drag the pointer over them while holding down the Shift key. The size of the rectangular frame around the selected points automatically changes when selecting or deselecting points.
    • To remove the selected grid line (with control points visible along it), press the Delete key or choose Edit > Transform > Remove Warp Splits.
    • To remove the horizontal and vertical grid lines passing through an anchor point, click the point, then press the Delete key or choose Edit > Transform > Remove Warp Splits.
    • To change the orientation of the warp style selected in the Warp menu, click the Change Warp Orientation button in the options bar.
    • To shift the center of the transformation, click the square on the control point handle in the options bar.
    • To specify the amount of distortion in numerical form, enter the values for bending (the "Kind" box) and distortions horizontally ("X") and vertically ("Y") in the parameter selection bar. If Custom or None is selected from the Warp Style drop-down menu, you cannot set numeric values.
A custom warp split has been applied around the neck of the bottle. The density of the visual guides is set to 4. There are four guides between each warp division.
  7. Do one of the following.

    • Press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac OS) or the Finish button in the Options Bar.

    • To cancel the transformation, press the Esc key or click the Cancel button in the options bar.

Each time you warp, the sharpness of a bitmap (as opposed to a shape or a path) is slightly reduced, so it is recommended that you run several commands and only then confirm the overall transformation, rather than confirming all the transformations individually.

Added in the June 2022 release of Photoshop 23.4

Made at the request of the packaging designers! In this release, Photoshop introduces the Cylinder Warp Transform feature, which lets you bend flat illustrations to fit onto the surface of a circular cylinder. In addition, controls for resizing and perspective are implemented, allowing you to naturally fit the entire selection.

To work with the new cylindrical deformation transformation function, do the following:

  1. Select the layer or part of the image to be deformed.

  2. Select Edit > Transform > Warp from the menu, or press Command+T (Mac) or Control+T (Win).

  3. Press mode button Free Transform/Deform on the parameter selection panel.

  4. Go to the drop-down menu Warp in the Options Bar and select the bottom icon: Cylinder .

  5. Click and drag on-screen controls to adjust shape deformation:

    • Corner controls: To freely transform the entire selection, use the bottom/left and top/right resize controls.
    • Combining Angular Controls + Shift limits aspect ratio.
    • Curvature controls:
      • Top center control changes the top and bottom arcs synchronously.
      • Bottom center element only adjusts the arc of the bottom border.
    • Control perspective by moving the center anchor point right and left.

    A. Adjusts the curvature of both top and bottom B. Sets the top right corner. C. Adjusts the perspective. Swipe to the center to zoom out or swipe right to zoom in D. Adjusts the curvature of the bottom regardless of the top E. Sets the bottom left corner

You can also apply a cylindrical warp transformation to text layers during creative document work.

In the August 2021 release of Photoshop 22.5, you can now use the Control (Win) / Command (Mac) modifier key to quickly switch warp split options without using the menu bar.

  • Control-click (Win) / Command-click (Mac) anywhere on the warp mesh to split it crosswise at that location.
  • Hold down the Control (Win) / Command (Mac) key and move the pointer to the edge of an existing horizontal grid line. Click to split the warp vertically at this location.
  • Similarly, hold down the Control (Win) / Command (Mac) key and move the pointer to the edge of the existing vertical grid line. Click to split the warp horizontally at this location.

You can move the handles (also called Bezier handles) of a control independently. These handles are attached to anchor points when using the Split Warp command to transform using a keyboard shortcut.

There are currently two options for moving with Bezier handles:

  • Consistent: moving one handle moves all others. The icon looks like a circle.
  • Independent: Each marker is moved without affecting the other markers associated with the reference point. The icon looks like a square.

Alt-click (Win) / Option-click (Mac) a point to toggle the state of the Bezier control (independent motion or consistent). You can also Ctrl-click the anchor point (or right-click) and choose Convert Warp Anchor Point from the shortcut menu.

  • Corner anchor points : By default, corner anchor points are set to independent move.
  • Edge/side anchor points : By default, the edge anchor points are set to move the horizontal/vertical pair consistent.
  • Inner Anchor Points : By default, the edge anchor points are set to move the horizontal/vertical pair consistent.

You can also select multiple anchor points (by holding down the SHIFT key) and then change the translation for all of these points at the same time.

Puppet warp displays a visual grid that can significantly deform certain parts of an image without affecting other areas. This tool can have many uses, from light retouching of an image (such as shaping hair) to complete transformation (such as measuring the position of arms or legs).

In addition to image layers, you can also apply Puppet Warp to layer masks and vector masks. To apply distortion to images without affecting the original, use Smart Objects. Learn more about creating smart objects.

  1. In the Layers panel, select a layer or mask for transformation.

  2. Choose Edit > Puppet Warp.

  3. In the Options Bar, adjust the following grid settings.

    Mode

Specifies the overall elasticity of the mesh.

Select Distort for a very elastic mesh to wrap around wide-angle images or texture maps.

    Density

Specifies the distance between grid nodes. Selecting the More Points option increases the accuracy, but it takes longer to process, and selecting Fewer Points has the opposite effect.

    Extension

Expands or contracts the outer edge of the mesh.

    Show grid

Deselect to show only the adjustment pins and get an uncluttered view of the transformations.

To temporarily hide correction pins, press the "H" key.

  4. In the image window, click to add pins to transformable areas and in places that need to be secured in place.

Moving a pin on a puppet mesh. Neighboring pins hold the remaining areas in place.
  5. To reposition or move pins, do any of the following:

    • Drag the pin to deform the mesh.

    • To show an area of the grid that overlaps another, click the buttons "Pin Depth" on options panel.

    • Press the Delete key to delete the selected pins. To remove others pins individually, hover over them, press Alt (Windows) or "Option" (Mac OS) and when the scissors icon appears click on them.

    • Press the Remove All Pins button on the options panel.

To select multiple pins, Shift-click on them, or select the Select All command from the context menu.

  6. To rotate the grid around a pin, select it, and then do any of the following: next steps.

    • To rotate the grid a specified number of degrees, Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac OS) the cursor next to, but not over, the pins. When the circle appears, drag to rotate the mesh by eye.

The angle of rotation is displayed in the options bar.

    • To rotate the grid automatically based on the selected mode, select Auto from the Rotate menu.
  7. When the conversion is complete, press Enter or Return.

To rotate the grid around the selected pin, press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS).
