The men's half of Team USA may be down stars such as LeBron James, Steph Curry and Anthony Davis, but they've got Jrue Holiday, who came straight from helping the Bucks win the NBA Finals. Bam Adebayo chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The women's side of Team USA has shined a bit in its first game, with a 23-0 run in the second quarter. But that was about it. Otherwise, Nigeria's strong defense was rough for the Americans to overcome. And now they're going for the gold against Japan on Saturday.

How to watch the Team USA basketball games from anywhere in the world

The Olympics is a global event and can be viewed in almost every country on Earth. However, if you're not in your home country and can't watch the Team USA Basketball games with your usual services — or you want to watch in your native language — you're not out of luck.

With a virtual private network, or VPN, you can appear to be surfing the web from your home town (or somewhere that blackouts won't hit), and access the same streaming services you already paid for. They're totally legal, inexpensive and easy to use.

Not sure which VPN is right for you? We've tested many different services and our pick for the best VPN overall is ExpressVPN . It offers superb speeds and excellent customer service. But you've got other VPN options as well.

We think speed, security and simplicity make ExpressVPN second to none. During our tests, we saw fast connection times, and we're impressed by the service's ability to access more than 3,000 services spread out across 160 locations in 94 countries.

Using a VPN is incredibly simple.

1. Install the VPN of your choice. As we've said, ExpressVPN is our favorite.

2. Choose the location you wish to connect to in the VPN app. For instance if you're in the U.S. and want to view a U.K. service, you'd select U.K. from the list.

3. Sit back and enjoy the action. Head to your website or streaming service of choice and tune in.

The BBC iPlayer has been the go-to source for all Olympics coverage for those in the U. K., but they haven't gotten these games broken out. This may be because those games all start at the ungodly hour of 5:40 a.m. BST.

Check out their comprehensive guide to try and see where to watch these games.

The BBC iPlayer has been the go-to source for some Olympics coverage for those in the U.K., but they aren't listing the Team USA vs Iran live stream, which starts at 5:40 a.m. BST.

However, it will definitely be available on the new service Discovery+ , which has the rights to full coverage of the Tokyo Olympics, breaking the BBC's previous monopoly. This year, the BBC is limited to no more than two live events at one time, whereas every single sport and every single event is available on Discovery+ or via the Eurosport channel.

Discovery is currently offering a three-day free trial  of the service, with full subscriptions available for £6.99/month or £29.99/year after that. Plus, the service is available to stream through a multitude of devices include Chromecast, Apple TV, Android TV and apps for iOS and Android.

Americans abroad could just use the service of their choice, provided they log in via a VPN such as ExpressVPN .

Again, details aren't exactly strong here.

Sportsnet may be your best bet, as its schedule lists basketball among its 12 a.m. ET to 6 a.m. ET coverage. TSN will also have early hours Olympics coverage, but it's not broken down by sport.

Again, Americans visiting their friends in the great white north could just use Peacock, Sling, Fubo and other services, provided they log in via a VPN such as ExpressVPN .

what to expect and where to watch

In the Women's Basketball World Championship semi-finals in Sydney, the US team won a crushing victory over the Canadian team (83:43), and the Chinese basketball players in the last seconds of the meeting snatched a ticket to the final from the Australian team (61:59). At Saturday, October 1, , in the 2022 World Cup finals, the US and Chinese teams will compete not only for gold medals, but also for the first direct ticket to the Olympic tournament of the 2024 Games in Paris.

In the North American semi-finals, the US team knocked out their opponents literally in the very first segment of the match: 19:2 - in the 5th minute of the game, 25:7 - after the first quarter. Team Canada completely lost the fight on the shield (53:37 on rebounds in favor of the Americans), attacked with a monstrous field goal conversion rate of 22 percent (18 hits out of 73 attempts) and looked absolutely demoralized by the disastrous start of the match. Agea Wilson was the best team member for the US team in this match , who scored a "double-double" (15 points + 12 rebounds). Although, with such a plot of the game, she did not need to exert any extra effort, and Wilson spent only a little more than 20 minutes on the court.

The outcome of the second semi-final was decided only in the very end. Tragic for the Australian team was the error Stephanie Talbot , which she made 53 seconds before the siren, when her team was leading 59:57 and had possession of the ball. Talbot allowed the Chinese Wang Xu to "rob" herself on the dribble, and then the Chinese basketball players not only equalized, but also took the lead. After accurate free throws performed by the same Wang Xu, three seconds before the siren, the representatives of Asia took the lead - 61:59. Desperate pass under the basket of Australian Easy McBegor in the last attack didn't help her team to move the game into overtime – the throw, made simultaneously with the final siren, turned out to be inaccurate.

As a result, on October 1, the teams of the USA and China will meet in the final match. In a historical retrospective, it is difficult to even compare the achievements of the teams: US basketball players are ten-time world champions (including those who won gold medals in five of the previous six such tournaments) and winners of seven previous Olympics. The Chinese team has never won the World Cup at all, and the last time they climbed the podium was 28 years ago, having won silver at the World Cup-1994.

At the current tournament, the teams have already met each other at the group stage, and then the US team won a landslide victory - 77:63. It would seem that absolutely all the layouts clearly point to the American team as the unconditional favorite of the upcoming final. However, decisive matches have their own laws, and if the Chinese women manage to keep an approximate balance in the score at least until the middle of the final meeting, then in the conditions of increasing nervous tension as the end of the match approaches, they may have chances. Although the likelihood of such a development of events, objectively speaking, is not too high. Judging by how confidently the US team is going through the current tournament, it can be stated that the current Olympic champions are very close to being the first to secure a ticket to the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Tokyo Olympics - without US men's team.

Qualification results in Graz / Russian Basketball Federation

The main Olympic qualifying tournament in basketball 3x3 ended on Sunday in Austria.

Recall that over the past five days, 20 men's and 20 women's teams competed for tickets to Tokyo. But only three of them received the right to speak at the Olympics. First it was necessary to get out of the group (only 2 teams out of 5 could do this), and then win two victories in the playoffs: one in the quarterfinals, the other in the so-called “game for the Olympic ticket” (semi-final or match for third place) .

The US men's team, having become the author of the biggest victory at the group stage (21:3 over Korea), did not qualify, losing in the 1/4 finals to the Netherlands - 16:21. After that, the Dutch left no chance for the French team (21:13) and became the first winners of the men's qualification. Another ticket to Tokyo was obtained by the Polish team, which rather unexpectedly beat Latvia - a spurt 4:0 at the finish line and 20:18. For the Baltic team, which plays in the FIBA Pro-cycle under the name "Riga" and has been among the strongest in the world for many years, this was the first defeat in the tournament. Nevertheless, the Latvians won the “ticket match” on the second attempt, defeating France (21:15) and taking the last ticket of the day.

Among the women, teams from France, the USA and Japan won tickets to Tokyo. In the semi-finals, the French beat the Japanese with a score of 15:14, while the Americans defeated Spain - 21:13. And the match for the third ticket was one of the most exciting. Recall that only the men's team of Japan automatically got to the Olympics as hosts, and the women's team had to go to the qualification. And get a ticket to the home Games in an incredible chase, winning back the gap of "-5" against Spain in the last 2 minutes of normal time and snatching the victory in overtime - 20:18!

The last, eighth qualifiers for the Olympics for men and women will be played on June 4-6 in Debrecen, Hungary in a special qualification for countries not represented in 5x5 basketball at the last two Games.
