BIG EAST Conference History - Big East Conference

The BIG EAST Conference The Official Website of The BIG EAST Conference

The 2020-21 academic year will be the eighth since the BIG EAST Conference began a new era by returning to its basketball-centric heritage.

Since the league’s reconfiguration in 2013, the BIG EAST has established itself as one of the nation’s exceptional Conferences and a leader in collegiate athletics, taking a proactive role on national issues.

Strong leadership is paramount as college athletics continues to face many significant challenges, exacerbated by the Coronavirus pandemic.   Dynamic leadership has been a staple of the BIG EAST throughout its history.

Val Ackerman, who previously served as founding President of the WNBA, President of USA Basketball and U.S. representative to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), was named the BIG EAST’s fifth Commissioner in 2013.  Under her leadership, the BIG EAST has maintained its reputation for achievement at the highest levels and continued its influence on the national collegiate landscape, with numerous conference and campus administrators currently serving on important NCAA committees.  Ackerman is one of the few sports executives who has held leadership positions in both men’s and women’s sports at the collegiate, professional, national team and international level.

For 2020-21, the BIG EAST has grown to 11 members.  The University of Connecticut, a member of the conference from 1979 to 2013, was officially readmitted on July 1, 2020.  UConn brings a rich history of academic and athletic excellence, especially in the sport of basketball.   The Huskies’ women’s program won eight of its 11 national championships as a BIG EAST member.  The men’s team won three national titles under the BIG EAST umbrella and an additional crown in 2014.

In its sports venues, the BIG EAST has produced 12 national champions over the past seven academic years.  Seven BIG EAST teams have captured national titles, including two in men’s basketball.  BIG EAST student-athletes have won national championships in five individual events.

In the classrooms, 62 BIG EAST athletic programs were recognized in 2019-20 by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards for outstanding academic achievement in the previous academic year.  The BIG EAST ranked third among all Division I conferences in the overall APR rate and has consistently been ranked among the top three since reconfiguration in 2013.

Outside of the arenas and playing fields, the BIG EAST has always adhered to an unwavering commitment to academic integrity, athletic excellence and community service while offering opportunities to help student-athletes to reach their potential as students, athletes and leaders.

In the summer of 2020, the conference launched “BE the Change,” a conference-wide advocacy platform that will enable BIG EAST stakeholders to engage on a range of contemporary racial and social justice issues.

In December of 2012, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova announced their intention to separate from the conference's FBS football-playing schools and form an independent association. The seven schools reached an agreement to retain the BIG EAST name and assume the conference's long-term pact with Madison Square Garden to host the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament.  The schools also announced the addition of three distinguished institutions — Butler, Creighton and Xavier — and forged a landmark, long-term broadcast partnership with FOX Sports.   The BIG EAST moved its headquarters from its original location in Providence, R.I., to midtown Manhattan in New York City. The new era officially began on July 1, 2013.

The BIG EAST has been lauded as a longstanding leader in innovative concepts, particularly television, and that reputation continues with the conference's relationship with FOX Sports.  The BIG EAST has enjoyed a successful multi-year partnership with FOX Sports and its national cable network FS1. FOX's comprehensive coverage of BIG EAST men's basketball includes the broadcast of all regular-season games on FOX, FS1, or FS2, as well as the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden, college basketball’s longest-running postseason conference tourney held at the same venue.

BIG EAST institutions are located in eight of the nation's 36 largest media markets, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Indianapolis, Hartford/New Haven, Cincinnati and Milwaukee.

FOX Sports platforms carry extensive coverage of women’s basketball regular-season play and the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament.  Every Olympic sport championship is carried on a network or digital platform.

The BIG EAST has also increased the visibility with the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). In 2014-15, the league became the first collegiate conference to be hosted on the FOX Sports mobile platform.   For the sixth straight year, BEDN has aired live events with an emphasis on women’s basketball, soccer and Olympic sport regular-season and championship events.

Founded in 1979 by Dave Gavitt, the former Providence men’s basketball coach and athletic director, the BIG EAST Conference became a reality in May of 1979.  Providence, St. John's, Georgetown, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Connecticut and Boston College formed the original seven-school alliance, and the conference became an immediate national power in men's basketball. While the composition of the BIG EAST has evolved, the focus of its schools has not changed, reflecting a tradition of emphasizing academic strength and fair play.

To complement its athletic successes, the conference launched BIG EAST Serves in 2014 to align with the service missions of the member institutions. Initiatives housed under the BIG EAST Serves umbrella, the BIG EAST Career Consortium and the national partnership with the It’s On Us campaign against campus sexual assaults, reflect the conference’s commitment to developing the complete BIG EAST student-athlete and making a positive contribution to campus communities.   The BIG EAST hosts a Well Being Forum online series to help provide institutional personnel with information, insights and basic training so they can better support the mental and physical health of their student-athletes.

Commissioner Ackerman and the BIG EAST have taken a leadership role in Sport at the Service of Humanity, an initiative created by the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture to focus on how sport and faith can drive positive social change.  Ackerman was a delegate at the inaugural Vatican conference and has served on an advisory committee to develop the framework and content for the initiative.

The BIG EAST hosts Freshmen Fundamentals, a unique program designed to assist men’s basketball student-athletes in the transition from high school to college and the elite level of BIG EAST basketball.  The league hosts Transition Game for women’s basketball, which assists women’s basketball student-athletes in the transition from college player to emerging professional on and off the court.
The conference crowns champions in 22 sports.  In men’s basketball, all 10 teams participated in the postseason for the first time in conference history in 2019.  Men’s basketball teams have earned 32 NCAA invitations in six years (2014-2019), averaging 5.3 per season.

BIG EAST men's basketball programs have enjoyed extraordinary success. Villanova has won NCAA Championships in 2018, 2016 and 1985.  Georgetown and Marquette also have won the national title.  Butler, DePaul, Providence, St. John's and Seton Hall have all made the Final Four. The BIG EAST placed three men's basketball teams in the 1985 Final Four — Georgetown, St. John's and Villanova—still the only time this has occurred in NCAA history.

The BIG EAST has achieved recent success in other sports as well. The Georgetown men’s soccer team won the 2019 NCAA title.  A BIG EAST team has won the NCAA women's cross country championship four of the last 11 years (Villanova twice, Providence and Georgetown once), with one runner-up finish (Providence). Georgetown’s women’s soccer team reached the College Cup in 2018 and 2016.  As an affiliate member in field hockey, Connecticut has won three national championships in seven years.  Denver, an affiliate member in men’s lacrosse, won the NCAA crown in 2015.

In the 41 years since the original league opened its doors, BIG EAST teams have won 42 national championships in eight different sports with 145 student-athletes winning individual national titles in the league’s history.

11 main club confrontations of the NBA - basketball

Boston against Philadelphia

beginning : 1965

Balance : 11 episodes in the playoffs (1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1985, 2002), 7-4 to Boston.

Main characters : Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird vs. Julius Irving.

The biggest rivalry in the league. To begin with, before moving to California, the Warriors lodged in Philadelphia: at 19In 60 and 1962, the Celts beat the Warriors in the finals of the Eastern Division. It was then that arguably the biggest head-to-head rivalry in the NBA was born: Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain. In 1964, when the Warriors were representing San Francisco, the clubs met in the Finals. Boston is stronger again.

The largest city in Pennsylvania did not live long without basketball: in 1963, the Syracuse National, who fought against the Celts in the playoffs 7 times (3 wins), moved to Philadelphia. Not only that, after Star Weekend 19On the 65th, they traded for Chamberlain, returning the main intrigue to the confrontation that had received a second wind. In the same year, in the final of the East there was an epic battle with the famous interception of Havlicek in the seventh meeting. The only victory over the enemy in the "swinging" decade, the Sixers won in 1967 - it also opened the way to the first title for the team and their dominant center.

The next eruption occurred in the first half of the 80s. The 76ers overcame a protracted crisis by buying Julius Irving's contract from the Nets in 1977. The Pennsylvanians made a bid for the conference championship, but the following year, Boston drafted Larry Bird. At 19In 1981 and 1982, old rivals again revealed the champion of the East. In the course of both series, the Sixers created a serious reserve (3-1). In the first case, the Boston team heroically won the fifth, sixth and seventh matches with a total difference of "+4" and went through. A year later, "Fili" again lost the advantage, but rallied and put the squeeze on the competition in match number seven. Despite the fact that the confrontation was fierce (in two and a half years there will be a famous brawl), the Celtics fans behaved with dignity in the highest degree. 26 seconds before the siren, when the outcome of the showdown (the winner would face the Lakers) was in no doubt, the Boston Garden exploded with a unanimous “Beat LA”—an outburst that many witnesses call one of their favorite moments in sports history. Since then, the chant has become a trademark of Boston fans.

In the US, the rivalry between the Celtics and the Sixers is considered the second most important. Knowing the history of the relationship between the teams from Beantown and the City of Brotherly Love, you are unlikely to dispute this state of affairs.

Boston against Detroit

Start: 1985

Balance : 7 episodes in playoffs (1985, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2002, 2008 ), 4-3 in favor of Boston.

Main characters of : Larry Bird vs. Isaiah Thomas, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish vs. Joe Dumars and Bill Laimbeer.

On the way of almost every champion Dynasty there was a powerful opponent, overcoming which opened a narrow path to the cherished goal. For Chuck Daley's Detroit, that opponent was Boston, the best team in the East in the 1980s, which played four times in the Finals in the middle of the decade. While the Celtics were sorting things out with the Lakers, the Michigans gathered and drilled the Bad Boys grouping, gaining a foothold as a permanent participant in the playoffs. And if at the first meeting with the “Celts” there was no talk of serious resistance, then in the famous final series of the Eastern Conference 19For 87 years, the “pistons” made it clear that they were ready for great achievements. In the first four matches, the rivals twice excelled on their site and fought hard. The all-important Game 5 became an NBA classic. Five seconds before the end, Detroit led 107:106 and injected the ball from behind the sideline. A moment later, it became clear what Bird meant when he said: "If there is even a little time, then there is a chance." Larry scored one of the canonical playoff steals that brought the Celtics to victory in a key game of the series.

And yet the time of domination of the "Celts" in the conference was coming to an end. The brutal style proposed by the Michigans did not really suit the aging stars of Boston. Exactly one year later, the Bad Boys took revenge, overcoming the most serious obstacle to establishing themselves in the NBA elite. In 1989 and 1991 they repeated and consolidated their success.

The rivalry is also marked by a personal feud between Byrd and Thomas and, in particular, by the invective of Isaiah, who said that if Larry were not white, he would not have achieved his cult status. The Celts forward clearly did not support this view: in 2003, he took over as president of basketball operations at Indiana, and the first thing he did was replace a long-time foe from Motown with Rick Carlisle.

Detroit against Chicago

Bart : 1988

Balance : 5 playoff series (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 2007), 4-1 in favor of Detroit.

Main characters : Isaiah Thomas and the Bad Boys vs. Michael Jordan.

Pistons-Bulls. no blood? No interest. These words can be taken as an epigraph to the stubborn confrontation marked by many skirmishes between Detroit and Chicago, which peaked in the late 80s, when the Bad Boys were at the zenith of their power, and Jordan and Co. were just approaching glory. The rivalry was exacerbated by the geographic proximity of the two cities and the tense relationship between Chicago native Isaiah Thomas and young superstar Michael Jordan. The famous stuffing of Chuck Daly, the so-called "Jordan Rules" - supposedly a secret tactic aimed at eliminating MJ, caused a heated controversy in the press and smiles in the "piston" camp. The Bad Boys had other reasons to rejoice: they were about the only team that could boast that they were stronger than the Jordan Chicago. At 19In 1989 and 1990, the Pistons beat the Bulls in the Eastern finals to lift the O'Brien Cup over their heads.

Chicagoans managed to end the confrontation on a triumphant note. When in 1991 they beat a hated enemy dry - now Detroit played the unenviable role that Boston played for them a few years ago - Isaiah and Bill Laimbeer defiantly left the bench a few seconds before the end in order to avoid participation in traditional handshake ceremony with victors.

“Chicago” against New York

Based

Balance : 6 series in the play offs (1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996), 5-1 to Chicago.

Main actors : Michael Jordan and Scotty Pipen vs. Patrick Ewing and John Starks.

To trace the origins of one of the league's most notable rivalries, turn to the 1982 NCAA Championship final between North Carolina and Georgetown—Michael Jordan's clutch-time shot gave the Tar Hills a victory over Patrick Ewing's Hoyas. Regardless of the result, it was clear that the two students in the strongest league in the world had a great future and the main battles between them were still ahead.

The Windy City and the Big Apple are two megacities with rich sports traditions and a demanding public. The six-round confrontation between the basketball giants attracted not only natives in Chicago and New York, but spectators around the world. In the '90s, when two teams were fighting in the playoffs, one of them then invariably represented the Eastern Conference in the Finals. It is worth adding that this "someone" usually became "Chicago", from 1991 to 1998, winning 6 championship titles. On account of the Knicks, two hits in the main series and only one victory over a principal rival, besides speaking without His Air. Despite the dominance of the bulls, the confrontation between Chicago and New York has become one of the symbols of the decade.

Balance : 6 episodes in the play -off (1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000), 3-3.

Main characters : Reggie Miller vs. Spike Lee.

Between 1993 and 2000, Indiana and New York met in the playoffs six times - this frequency inevitably leads to an aggravation of relations. The personal animosity between Pacers leader Reggie Miller and Yellow Devil City's top basketball fan Spike Lee, as well as the juxtaposition of the New York metropolitan area with provincial Indianapolis, gave the ruthless battle a special flavor. The classic rivalry, to which ESPN even dedicated a separate film, is marked by ruthless forceful actions, psychological pressure to demoralize the enemy, and many heroic deeds included in the NBA gold fund. In Reggie's last match at Madison Square Garden, the crowd chanted his name, and after the siren, the sniper embraced the eccentric director in a sign of reconciliation, which should not mislead you: it was one of the most uncompromising battles in the history of the league.

New York vs Miami

Start : 1997

Balance: Playoff 4 series (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000), 3-1 to New York

Main characters York against Pat Riley, Patrick Ewing against Alonzo Mourning.

After working in New York for four seasons, Pat Riley fled to Miami, first provoking disagreements between the team's management. It didn't take long for Riley to raise the new club, which began to bear a strong resemblance to his previous creation, the pitiless Knickerbockers. It so happened that from 19From 1997 to 2000, the two squads fought in the playoffs four times in a row, playing the maximum number of matches in each series. Such a confrontation was doomed to bloodshed, and the aggressive nature of the teams manifested itself rather quickly. To the delight of the fans, the most violent and crushing rivalry in the history of the NBA was marked not only by fights, scandals and suspensions, but by clutch-time heroism and even friendship between its two most prominent participants. Old friends, Georgetown University graduates Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning ate lunch after each game, in order to somehow smooth out the accumulated contradictions and maintain good relations. Judging by the fact that in 2003 a native of Jamaica was ready to donate his own kidney to the sick Mourning, they succeeded.

Due to the permanent depression of New York in the 2000s, the competition between the clubs has noticeably weakened, but, of course, there is no question of any truce: the rivalry is illuminated by separate outbreaks in the regular season, and in July 2010, Riley intercepted the former the team of LeBron James, under which the “knickerbockers” cleared the payment for two years.

“Detroit” against Lakers

began : 1988

Balance: 3 playoff series (1988, 1989, 2004), 2-1 to Detroit.

Main characters : Isaiah Thomas vs. Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant vs. Shaquille O'Neal and Chauncey Billups

"Detroit" and "Los Angeles" have opposed each other since the middle of the last century, when the Michigans were still in the Western Conference - with a clear advantage in favor of the Californians (7-1). In the form in which we know it today, the rivalry started in the late 80s: the teams played two champion titles in a row. Before the start of each match, then-close friends Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas exchanged the traditional kiss of hello, the only sign of friendship between the competing sides. Loathed by most Pistons laborers, who tried to foul so that the opponent could not get up from the floor, against the sparkling "Showtime" Magic and Abdul-Jabbar - the battle was not only for rings, but also for the idea. Leading 3-2 during the dramatic series at 1988th, Detroit lost in two decisive fights with a total difference of 4 points, but brutally retaliated a year later (4-0).

Rivalry acquires incomparable charm and integrity when it involves different generations of players. In 2004, Detroit and the Lakers represented completely different characters, but the ideology has not changed: harsh, strong, first of all, the “pistons” team against the spectacular, stellar “lakemen”. The fate of that Finals is inextricably linked with another well-known confrontation - Shaquille and Kobe, which had an almost decisive influence on the unexpected success of the Pistons.

The current state of the Michigan club does not allow us to hope for a quick revival of confrontation.

“San Antonio” against “Phoenics”

The beginning of : 1992

Balance : 10 episodes in episodes in playoffs (1992, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010), 6-4 to San Antonio.

Main characters : David Robinson vs. Charles Barkley, Gregg Popovich vs. Mike D'Antoni, Tim Duncan vs. Steve Nash.

Over the years, teams in the Eastern Conference have outperformed Western opponents, at least in the finals. The East can boast of a large number of legendary confrontations, however, reminiscent of dormant volcanoes today. The West stepped up in the new millennium and dominates the league to this day. The newly born battles of the west coast are in full swing and are actively developed. One example is the fierce struggle between San Antonio and Phoenix.

The rivalry goes back to the 1990s, when the teams played four interesting series, but it got its true face in the 2000s: in their own way, bright, easily recognizable Spurs and Suns claimed the highest places and clashed foreheads in the play- off six times. The most turbulent series happened in 2007 - the second round of the playoffs with the participation of Western favorites was called by many "the real final", and for good reason. The blood of Steve Nash and Manu Ginobili, the flight of the leader of the Arizons towards the referee table provoked by Robert Orry, the insulting disqualifications of Amare Stoudemire and Boris Dio have become modern NBA classics.

The confrontation between San Antonio and Phoenix is interesting not only by the number and importance of meetings. Inveterate duelists were called none other than Yin and Yang, Good and Evil, Light and Darkness. The southern teams represented two opposing currents: the Suns' speed model was supposed to achieve the desired result due to the effectiveness of the attack, while the Spurs, on the contrary, diligently slowed down the pace, focusing on the classic “defense wins titles” adage. The peculiar dogmatism of the Texans left the worship of the Canadian Yarila in the rank of a pagan cult, and the romantic "Seven seconds or less" a flight of fantasy by Mike D'Antoni. At the right moment, the veterans did not hesitate to use the tricks of the intolerant 80s and dubious tactics like "Hack-a-Shaq", and when the position of the "spurs" became critical, Duncan scored from afar - the decisive battles remained with Popovich's inquisitors. But in this case, not only the result is important: when two mutually exclusive forces met each other, real dramas played out on the site.

Utah vs. Houston

Start : 1994

Balance : 6 playoff series (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008), 4-2 to Utah.

protagonists: John Stockton and Karl Malone vs. Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer vs. Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

The Utah vs. Houston clash probably deserves the "Best Confrontation You've Never Heard Of" sign more than any other competitor. A fairly large market and two titles elevate the franchise from the space capital, however, the opponents are similar to each other: the Mormons and the Texans cannot be classified as the most prominent and popular representatives of the NBA, but they have always been extremely dangerous and uncompromising teams and remain so today. From the outside it may seem that the “rockets” and “jazzmen” have more fundamental rivals - the same “Lakers” or “Chicago”, but if you ask the fans of the teams, you will understand that there are no two opinions on this issue.

The iconic battle for both clubs began in the militant 90s - the winner of all four series represented the West in the finals - and, importantly, continued into the new century, and with no less intensity. It's impossible to give up the yellow jersey: having beaten the Jazz in 1994 and 1995, the Rockets then took precious rings - you should never underestimate the hearts of champions, you know. On the other hand, since 1997, Salt Lake City messengers have dominated the opposition, putting an end to the aspirations of several generations of Clutch Fans at once. Stockton's killer 3-pointer not only brought Utah to the series for the first time, but also had a devastating effect on the enemy: over the next 14 years, Houston only once broke the first round barrier.

San Antonio vs. Dallas

Start : 2001

Balance : 5 playoff series (2001, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010), 3-2 to San Antonio.

The protagonists of : The Big Three against Dirk Nowitzki.

Texas is the second largest and most populous US state. Locals repeat with pride: "Everything is bigger in Texas." Texans are known for having big houses, big cars, big money and. .. big basketball derbies. Each of the cities that make up the top of the Texas Triangle has a team with a rich tradition. Matches between them are always of a fundamental nature, regardless of the position in the table and the current form of the opponents. Perhaps it would be fair to say that the youngest Texas confrontation - "San Antonio" against "Dallas" - is at the same time the most important, at least in modern times, for sure.

No matter how great Texas is, the interests of neighbors often overlap. In 2005, the Mavericks were led by Avery Johnson, who opened up under the leadership of Popovich. A few months later, Michael Finley, expelled from Dallas for financial reasons, moved to the camp of the enemy, despite many other offers. In the 2006 playoffs, the student surpassed the teacher as the Rogues celebrated victory in overtime in Game 7 of the Western Semi-Finals, one of the most exciting series of the 2000s. In general, the teams met five times. The Spurs have been at their best both directly in the confrontation and in general, winning four titles, while Dirk Nowitzki parted from the reputation of a loser only last season.

Mark Cuban isn't shy about talking openly about his hatred of the Spurs. The southern part of the state reciprocates. It is believed that if teams go 0-80 into the last two games of the regular season, but those games turn out to be the Texas Derby, they will still have the intransigent nature of playoff meetings.

Boston against Lakers

The beginning of : 1959 9000

Balance : 12 playoff series (1959, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1984, 1985, 1987, 2008, 2010), 9-3 in favor of Boston.

Main actors : Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson, Paul Pierce vs. Kobe Bryant.

Since 1959, the two most titled clubs in the league have met in the final series a record 12 times. The biggest rivalry in the NBA has given the world a great many great matches and unforgettable moments, as well as the most significant personal duels, for decades serving as the engine of progress of the world's strongest league. The two main antagonists of the Association, the Celtics and the Lakers, not only played for championship titles, but represented different philosophies: the incompatibility of the Boston Fellowship and California Glamor brought the confrontation to a new level. Hatred towards each other is easily explained, but one must understand that for all the contradictions, the two clubs are inextricably linked, and it is absolutely impossible to imagine them separately. The most important NBA teams stimulated the development not only of basketball in general, but also of themselves, because outdoing the enemy is the main incentive for the Celts and Lakers. Spreading thoughts along the tree and trying to say something new in this case, perhaps, is unnecessary - everything has long been laid out on the shelves. If you don't care about this confrontation, then you either don't like basketball, or you're dead, or both.

Basketball Betting Guide - FAQ

What is the best bookmaker for basketball betting?

Basketball is very popular - it is well covered by a huge number of bookmakers. Especially if the user is interested in games from the NBA League or the Euroleague. Some sports betting operators also offer customers lucrative bonuses, the ability to watch live games for free, and other benefits. You can always choose an office with good conditions for betting according to Oddspedia ratings.

Where can I watch basketball for free?

You can watch basketball games for free on the official websites of BC, which provide services for live broadcasting of matches. When choosing a bookmaker to watch, keep in mind that a number of offices open access to the broadcast only after registration and replenishment of the account.

How long is a basketball game?

NBA match statistics show that the average duration of one basketball game with all pauses, official breaks and more is about 135-140 minutes.

What does a handicap mean in basketball betting?

When one basketball team has a clear lead over another, the betting scale can be unbalanced. Such a tool as a handicap allows a weaker team to gain a few points advantage from the bookmaker. This makes betting more interesting and increases the chances of getting big wins. In basketball, it is allowed to bet with a three-way handicap (the possibility of a draw is taken into account).

How to bet on basketball and win?

There is no specific strategy for betting in basketball. To achieve success, beginner batters are advised to carefully study the markets, get acquainted with the rules of the game, the statistics of past matches, examine in detail the history of the game of a particular team, monitor player transfers, and also focus on the forecasts of more experienced betters when placing bets.

What does "Over" or "Under" mean in basketball betting?

This type of bet provides that the user indicates the team that will score more than a certain number of points in the match or less. Not for a victory or a specific score, but for such an indicator. The most popular bet of this type in basketball is +162.5.

Are there special rules for betting on basketball?

Most bookmakers follow traditional basketball betting rules. But there are some nuances. For example, bets on extra time are considered valid unless otherwise stated. Bets are void if the game is interrupted for some reason. If the game from the NBA league was rescheduled for another day, trusted bookmakers will return your funds and cancel the bet. Overtime is not taken into account in HT/FT bets. It is better to get acquainted with other special rules directly on the bookmaker's website.

What is the best market for basketball betting?

In the basketball betting market, the most popular market is Moneyline (winners market). However, nothing prevents the user from betting on the victory of the team in one quarter or betting on the total number of points scored. You can bet on whether there will be extra time in the match, how many minutes, etc.

How does comparing odds help when betting on basketball?

Basketball odds comparison allows you to get a potentially higher return on funds invested in betting. In addition, the odds indicators of major bookmakers allow you to evaluate the chances of winning a particular bet, navigate the current market situation, not make a mistake in making a bet decision and make it on time on the site that offered the best conditions.

In what year did basketball as a game appear?

Basketball was invented by a gymnastics teacher in 1891 in the USA. The coach attached bottomless fruit baskets to the railing of the balcony and told the students to throw the ball into it. The game was so popular with the fans that in 1893 the official rules of basketball were published.
